I am definitely sucked in, Don! I gotta do some more research on my engines before I go putting all the bells'n'whistles on my build engines. These types of posts definitely help! Keep up all the awesome work!

Shiny...
ZombieHunter26 replied to ZombieHunter26's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Speaking of mile deep finishes- I've tried to find how-to articles on the multicolored glitter-gloss-and-detail finishes I've seen on some of the rod builds 'round here... I can only imagine the fun I'm gonna have trying to get those right LOL -
Shiny...
ZombieHunter26 replied to ZombieHunter26's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
True, but what I was really trying to say is I'm not gonna be posting up shinies for a while- not to say I won't be practicing them, but my main focus will be on what I am good at, which is age and rust. You guys will see shinies in the future, once I 'perfect' (as we all know, we can never be entirely perfect in our own minds, such is the curse of the modeler ) my shiny techniques. I have the problem of being limited in my choices of shine, at the moment I' stuck with spray lacquers and gloss sprays- I'll be looking into urethanes and enamel sprays in the future. I'm slowly breaking my reliance on wal-mart sprays -

you can't really tell all the blemishes from the photos- but I can assure you it looks bad in person. one more to go... like I said, it looks bad in person. Not so bad in the photos. -
Shiny...
ZombieHunter26 replied to ZombieHunter26's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, there's one in the white pond(mineral spirits) and the other I will take a pic of in just a moment. -
So I tried my hand at shiny builds. Let's just say I am glad I only spent 12 bucks a model on my experiment. I'm not the best at doing shiny. In fact, unless I downright suck at it. In the future, you'll see plenty of aged, rusty, and otherwise non-shiny stuff from me- but no shinies for quite some time. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

ZombieHunter26 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
I do that ALLLLLLL the time! It's the only way to build sometimes. EDIT: Now that I think about it, that's how 90% of my diorama WW3 Battles Scars was built. LOL. -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
ZombieHunter26 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
So I went to the LHS today and bought two models off the clearance racks. Both 'UPTOWN' series by revell- the Magnum R/T and the Chrysler 300c SRT8. Curbsides, as I found out, but I'm just building 'em to take a little break from the PA/ZH CBP for a few to work on improving my shiny jobs. plus, I only spent 35 bucks total for two kits and some modelling filler. Don't get me wrong, I have something in store for later. I'm just 'resting my imagination' if you will. -

I've got one for the enemy, one for the nuisances, and six for the 'good' guys... ...what's that make me? LOL! I'm taking a kit break for a few days and working on some scenery and random pieces... I'm still deciding what kits I wanna mash up next, and whether or not my budget will fit 'em. I may hit up the clearance racks at my LHS... I figure I'll give you guys a chance to catch up. ...maybe. -
Never really been a Dukes fan, but you've got me sucked in with the detail you've poured into this. I think I'm with several others when I say I can't wait to see the finished product. On another note, I want to start trying PE and BMF sometime. Just haven't gotten the balls to move past styrene (I -just- moved over from superglue for everything to using mainly plastruct plastic weld solvent.) and out of my comfort zone into even more detailed stuff. Every day I come on here I see something I want to attempt, but haven't figured out how to do without wasting money I don't have botching it up. I think with time, I'll get over that. Great build man! Keep it up, I'll definitely be stopping back through to check the progress.

I've been working on a secret build, and even teasing a little about it here and there to keep you guessing. I got the idea to do this shiny, over-the-top build from a few different sources. For one, in a world of the undead and raiders and all-around lawlessness, there should be at least ONE person who decided "HEY! I'm gonna do what no one else will! I'LL be sheriff 'round these here parts!" ....or something like that. secondly, the good doctor himself encouraged me to try a shiny build. To go outside my bounds. Do something DIFFERENT. and lastly, I'm a big nerd. In every MMO, tabletop RPG, fantasy-based rpg game, etc.... I've played a paladin. Destroyer of evil, upholder of the law, and bane of demons and the undead. VALIANT STEED is the mixture of all these things. Part '57 chevy utility sedan, part british crusader MKII tank, it embodies what -I-, one of the biggest nerds I know, believe a post-apocalyptic paladin would drive. If you've been paying attention, this guy has been causing all sorts of folk legends around his stomping grounds, destroying evil swiftly and viciously, and rescuing those in need. I'll start with progress pics, then move on to the finished product! It started with a simple hackjob and glueworks- moved on to primer and more details- and made it to lacquer and decals- more past the break... -

After the great war that destroyed the world as we know it, the remnants of the US military were faced with a problem- Lack of working vehicles. The first and second waves of the invasion effectively destroyed 90% of the military's vehicular mass, leaving the remaining forces to their own skills and creativity- An example of this ingenuity is the U.S. SatComm Vehicle "Liger". Outfitted with a radar dish, radio antennae set for all frequencies(AM, FM, CB, Microwave, etc.) belt-fed turret guns, storage space(for landmines, EMP emitters, tow chains, and extra supplies), and a 85 gallon fuel supply, the Liger can support a pilot and copilot for weeks in the harsh wasteland terrain. The crew of this marvel of military genius consists of the pilot (who operates the vehicle's movement, and in a pinch has the ability to take over control of the turrets in the event of the copilot's death) and copilot(who operates the radar, radios, and weapon systems). The copilot's seat is outfitted on all sides, with an overhead screen displaying fuel range, speed, and battery life, a forward screen displaying targets, radio broadcasts(with range from broadcast displayed next to the chatter windows), ammunition, and has the option for infrared display in the right conditions. To the side the comm radio is installed, with all frequencies available for broadcast. The pilot's seat is outfitted with the basics- a steering wheel with thumbsticks for manual turret control and an emergency lever to eject the cockpit roof in the event of emergency. Most of the foreside of the vehicle is plated in diamond plate steel. Without further adieu... here's the pics! more past the break... -

Taken from the journal of a wastelander in the barren deserts of what was once known as Las Vegas: "And so it came, from the dust and nothingness- A shining glint on the horizon at first, then within moments it was upon them. The sounds of terror and confusion rang out as the construct of silver and gold tore its way through a raider encampment not far from my makeshift den. The rattle of large caliber rounds being sent downrange, the roar of the large engine that powered the beast- A matter of minutes passed and there was only the growl of the engine and the crackle of flames. I peered out towards the battered encampment to see a trail of dust following that shining, glorious vehicle as it left destruction in its wake. It would seem that the folk tales I've heard are true. A fearsome knight protects these wastes, and he rides in a valiant steed..." Just a little teaser for the "secret build" I've got in store. -

I believe earlier on he mentioned the color scheme being an urban camo type. With weathering and rusting, the definition of the camo becomes less apparent, so it looks washed out and slightly muddled. Just thought i would help clear that up.
