  1. So, as promised, here's some progress. I build slightly differently, I do major assemblies and paint/weather as I go... so as "done" as Swamp Runner may look, he's still a little ways off from being ready for his diorama. I used all my personal rustcoating and rust colors I've perfected so far on this one. You may recognize my Brown Rustcoat, but the other two are Swamp Rot Green and Raw Mud. Here's Swamp Runner in progress- More past the break...
  2. I'm gonna take some pics of Swamp Runner in progress today, as well as the chassis/engine for the Red Hawk. Eyecandy sometime later in the day!
  3. I've already begun build 4, and my Swamp Runner build+dio isn't even finished yet. I was thinking of how the enemy would still have access to higher tech, even if they have to cobble it together from other things. I'm thinking after Enrico picks up his next caravaneer, the group will run into an "air patrol". Not so much fighter jet, but mid-level (10-30ft off the ground) flight type of vehicle. I'm thinking of an ionized/magnetic pad levitation hooked to a fusion drive engine(which I am currently scratchbuilding). I'm also in the midst of writing days 9-14 for the journal entries... More to come soon!
  4. I approve this build I love the '65 Mustang Cobras, the GT500KR being my all-time favorite... You did the Shelby models justice with this build. Great detail, and paint job! I look forward to seeing more of your work!
  5. I say real, mainly because it looks to be 1:1 in a majority of ways- and I consider 1:1 to be real no matter what. Custom yes, but not a model.
  6. LOL. I have one too, but she's more of a "I'm gonna curl up inside your empty model box to keep it warm" type. As for parts cleanup... Let's just say I had to scratchbuild a few of the small bits for the Dodge L700 I'm currently building for my next submission. Silly feline menace... OH. And AWESOME gremkiller Cranky! It gave me a few ideas for the next vehicle after the L700.
  7. Hey B-dub- Where'd you get the awesome kitty-shaped model stand? It looks so realistic Anyhow, I'd assume you're going for a gunship tanker? Or something of that nature....
  8. I'm not the only one who uses resistors and transformers out of old electronics!! Nice, btw.
  9. I'm loving the progress so far on everyone's stuff. I was on the same page with Cranky about hoping this thread would explode into action! It did not disappoint. My submissions will be telling a story, each new build taking 842 Grievous Wound (my 2nd vehicle in this build) across the war-stricken country as our heroes meet several different survivors, each with their own personal vehicles that have been modified to fit the environment they reside in. Each build will also be joined by a diorama, to set the mood, and accompanied by an appropriate journal entry/entries. I'm not necessarily doing this to outshine anyone by far- I just enjoy telling a story through all mediums, be it building, writing, drawing... I hope some of you decide you'd like 842 Grievous Wound to run across your particular survivor (the driver of your built vehicles) at some point. It would make for some awesome plot builds and also bring your build to life even further. My next build/journal entry is going to be based somewhere in deep in the swamp... I wonder what Enrico will find there? ...til next time!
  10. I get a majority of my spare parts from thrift stores. They have a great selection of broken or worn out toys for parting out- plus, I find a kit or two ONCE in a while. It's been a while since I got that lucky. The one I frequent goes by weight. I can load down a bag for like.... 5-10 bucks?
  11. I'm a little behind on taking pictures... In fact I've already assembled the Dodge L700 to my liking and started adding extra bits/ removing panels. I build weird. I assemble sections, paint, give rustcoat where needed, THEN do subsequent assemblies and modifications... So I have a fully built stock truck sans sideview mirrors and tail lights, painted, waiting for me to attach more parts. I've worked all weekend so far, and then I build a little bit when i get home and watch a few episodes of LOST on dvd with the wife... on my next day off I will devote some time to pictures. On a related note, I found some interesting parts the other day at the thrift store, and 4 dollars later I had a bag full of toy trucks and industrial equipment. Should be interesting to see how I can use these pieces. It's off to work again today, I'll be back again late tonight.
  12. I'm currently sub assembling all the sections of the dodge L700 flip cab truck cranky sent in his package The sprues don't come numbered, so it's a challenge, but I LOVE challenges. Keeps me on my toes, and makes me have to take my time The base of this next vehicle is -slightly- out of box, with a few pieces left out. Then, it's on to the addons and modifications!
  13. I find waiting for an Order to come in a little less convenient than just going to the store and picking it up THAT DAY. Even on Sundays! Mail doesn't run on sundays. Idk, I'm under 35, and I still prefer the feel of the Hobby store. As mentioned before, the hands-on while looking for a new kit, the ability to SEE your product up close... Plus, the guy that works mine is a great guy too. I used to work with him. Online purchases take way too long for me. I prefer to go to a store and pay just a little more for the experience. I'm off to work though, see you guys later in the day!
  14. Also, I picked up some more stuff to part out from the thrift store today. Should make for some interesting add-ons for whatever the good doctor is surprising me with
  15. Well guys. You may hear a little less from me, seeing as how I just started a new job- BUT I will still be building on my free time. (It's only part time work so I will still have plenty of it) Just a heads up, seeing as how I've practically been living at my workbench for the past three months. I'm still here, just with a -little- less frequency! 'til next time....
  16. Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm currently prepping a diorama for that vehicle, one of several actually... (gotta give visual representations of my journal entries somehow! ) And prepping myself for a new kit to work on. I can't just stop at one!
  17. Ok... I TRIED the whole sunlight pics, further away from the subject, and pre-upload cropping. Not even MY abilities with digital art could save these pics. BUT. I'll let you see them anyways.
  18. I use aluminum window screen. You can buy a HUGE roll of it at wallyword for like 8 or 9 bucks. Takes primer coats and paints REALLY well.
  19. Remember the journal entries I mentioned a few posts back? Here ya go http://www.modelcars...72&showentry=96 Days 1-8, to start. Writing more as I go. Keep it tuned!
  20. Haha, I don't mind copying of my techniques. After all, all techniques come from someone somewhere. If nobody copied a technique, or altered it to make it their own, then there would not be any techniques to be used!
  21. In spirit of being creative, I will be writing a series of journal entries to go along with the dioramas and vehicles I will be submitting. The entries will be from the perspective of the resistance fighter who pilots the 842 Grievous Wound. They will encompass his travels through post-WW3 America, encounters with enemy outposts, and remnants of civilization. ...Who knows, he might meet up with one of you in his travels, if you so desire to be included in his story. (just send me a reply in my inbox if you'd like to be written in!)
  22. I am disappointed with this camera. I have it set to the highest possible resolution, 3240x1920 (8 megapixels), have the quality set to super fine, I've tweaked the white balance to the best of my ability for maximum color range... only to find out that no matter how high I put the resolution on this camera, the HD setting is for video only. I'm just gonna wait for my wife to get her ACTUAL HD720p camera out of pawn. THAT camera takes good, clear, crisp closeup pics. This Vivitar POS can bite me. Trust me, I want you guys to be able to make out just about every little nuance on my builds... So I will wait for the Samsung.
  23. The sun did not cooperate today. SO. I'm gonna experiment with some better lighting and pre-upload edits...
  24. I will get some better pics later in the day, when the overcast clears. It was late last night, and I usually get REALLY excited to share them. (don't go by the time and date on the photos, I haven't set the date on the cam yet) I did notice that the closer pics get REALLY blurry and the far off ones tend to be just a little clearer.... so I will be getting new ones done sometime today if the sun decides to cooperate.
