  1. I remember you tellin' me about this build a little while ago. I love it! Great work!
  2. I did use the stock bed as a base. I did NOT, however, use the bed cover, if you'd like to trade something for it.
  3. Mine is based on a fictional character in a graphic novel I'm working on bit by bit- Zombie Hunter #26. He's the 26th out of 42 genetically engineered and reprogrammed 'zombies' created solely for the purpose of thinning out the undead horde. He was the first one that was successful, but before the military scientists could completely reprogram him for total control, he escaped. Now in a world overrun with the undead and riddled with lawlessness, he is hunted by the very people that created him. I also change my avatar on a whim, just not with much frequency.
  4. Hope you guys like it so far! More to come during the next stage of the paint process.
  5. The gunner system was inspired (sort of) by the Millennium Falcon's gun system, very loosely. It has a round targeting reticle mounted above the operating handles, and a small status screen mounting by the right side of the gunner's head. The cannon is based on a .30cal chopper minigun, and is mounted atop a device allowing for minimal rotation and up/down motion. more past the break...
  6. Ok, here's the update I promised. The primer has dried, the drybrushing done, and the dullcote has been applied and allowed to dry. This build is going to go through several different stages in the paint and decal process. This process was to give everything a bare metal feel, with a little bit of a faded and aged look. This is my basecoat before I apply the color coats in layers to simulate chippage and damage. The interior is faded as well to give the initial 'clean age' look, but will be dirtied up a bit in the next few stages. Here's some pics- more past the break...
  7. Thanks for the kind words guys! I'll be getting some more progress pics up here in a bit. But yes, Zimmerit Plate was my inspiration for the reinforcing. ....You guys haven't seen the gunner's system yet, I'm quite proud of it. And I would hope that only a week would pass after full scale invasion/revolution before people started modding vehicles to fight the enemy. More progress to come in a bit!
  8. I've been gettin' down to business on this project for a few days, and although I'm going to be posting it in the PAZH CBP Dr. Cranky started, I think it would do well enough on its own topic also- that way those who don't frequent that topic thread will have a chance to see it. It starts with the 'RIDES MAGAZINE' Custom Collection 1972 Chevy Pickup kit from AMT/ERTL. This kit came in a care package of sorts sent to me by a good friend of mine along with a few other kits you'll be seeing me post build topics on in the future. It is the 2005 release. The idea came from a post on the CBP thread I'm currently involved in. One of the members posted some reference photos of 'technical' trucks and it got my brain rattling. For those who do not know what a 'technical' is, here is a quick reference post and photo- A technical is a type of improvised fighting vehicle, typically a civilian or military non-combat vehicle, modified to provide an offensive capability similar to a military gun truck. It is usually an open-backed civilian pickup truck or four-wheel drive vehicle mounting a machine gun, light anti-aircraft gun, recoilless rifle, or other support weapon. (ref. Wikipedia) Anywho, back to my build... My brain rattled on for a while until I got the kit to make one. The idea is this. Given the subject matter of most of my builds, a lot of you already know I'm a big military buff, and I have a tendency towards WW3 and Post-Apocalypse type scenarios. Not that I hope for it, just that type of subject matter intrigues me beyond comprehension. The year is 2023, and we've come under heavy attack from enemy forces. Our military is stretched thin, and civilians are taking to the streets to fight for their freedom alongside their military protectors. Modified civilian vehicles are the now commonplace on the battlefield that was once peaceful America. The vehicle my build will be representing is being used by a medium sized pocket of resistance in the battle-scorched desert plains of new mexico. Some higher end tech is used in the reinforcing of the vehicle, as well as the arming of it. Here are some progress pics of what I have gotten done already- More once the primer is dry!
  9. So my technical is coming along nicely. I've got most of the build done, just waiting on the solvent to cure on my gunner system. I may be adding a few more details bit's n pieces wise before I prime it, but for the most part it's ready to go on to the painting stage. ...I'll post pics later.
  10. Still working on either scratching a gun or converting a toy gun for the back. Anywho, I hope you like the progress!
  11. Now, it may seem a little messy right now, but I'm going to be adding sand/rocks/weeds later, and salting the corrugate siding. trying to come up with a good paint color for the converted fuel depot. I'm also working on some old fuel drums to toss in the back too. This set of pics is of the Technical I'm working on. No name yet, and it's still early in the process, but here goes! more past the break...
  12. Alright guys, it's time for some updates. First, some base paint/rust work on the diorama- more past the break...
  13. In the past few pages, I saw some awesome technicals in 1:1 ref photos, and with the recent generosity bestowed upon me by a good friend ..... I have a kit worthy of MY kind of technical. Over the top, and all around awesome, work has already begun on it. This particular build is actually my favorite so far! I can't spare enough time to post some in progress pics YET, but sometime in the day (after I wake up and whatnot) I will be lavishing your eyecandy appetites with something I think you will all enjoy (especially our good doctor!). Keep 'em peeled, boys. I'm just getting started!
  14. My LHS is the West Ashley store, and that's 45 minutes away from me. The sister store in in Mt. Pleasant, 30 MORE minutes out But yes, i agree. The lady manager there is pleasant. I just try to remember that not everyone working in a LHS is highly experienced with modelling. I've been trying to get in there for years as an employee! Edit: The store used to be across the street bfore it moved 3 years ago. In the new location, they have started running out of a lot of stuff.
  15. Speaking of the Tomahawk- I'm slightly irritated to find that there are no scale models of it. Only a 1:64 hotwheels. I don't know enough about how it's built to scratchbuild one either! Oh well.
  16. Friends, friends! I'm surprised no one has mentioned this beauty. If money were no object, this seasoned zombie hunter would show up in full regalia driving this- Dodge Tomahawk. For all bad mother truckers. Accept no substitute!
  17. My LHS almost never has GREEN STUFF, or a good selection of PLastruct/Evergreen. They have a selection, but not as thorough and complete as one would expect. I'd have to travel yet another half hour from THAT LHS to ts sister store a town over to enjoy a better selection. Oh, and I've had to educate the manager on what 'curbside' means, and also explain in great detail why I need G scale railroad figurines when I build model Cars... (although, she doesn't carry G scale in any sort of abundance whatsoever.) One day, I'll open my own Styrene Stockpile store One day.
  18. If I ever won the lottery, I'd clean out my LHS of all plastic kits and stock styrene... and all their paints But then, I'd be left with barely any room for my family and I in our home LOL
  19. I'm getting ready to join the Charleston chapter... Probably gonna go see Don sometime around Wed or Thurs.... Anyone else on here from SCMA?
  20. With the help of my buddy JD, I took some primer pics of the diorama I made for the Europan alien attack drone. He did well to hold it still and not drop it- I'd have been in poor spirits if I'd have had to re-cast the entire base from plaster again, let alone rebuild everything. So he made a great assistant, so far. Anywho, to give you an idea of where it's headed after the primer stage- It's an old fuel depot that was abandoned in the middle of the desert, and converted for use as living quarters. It's matchbox scale, I have an old burned out porsche 911 husk waiting to be put in after flocking and details paints. Tumbleweeds, sawgrass, sand, rocks, and possibly some people will be in the future of this dio. I pretty much got bored and decided my leftover plaster mix and corrugate styrene had been sitting in my toolbox for too long. here's the primer pics! enjoy!
  21. Someone's covered the zombie threat- So I thought I'd cover the alien threat. (even though I -did- already cover the military threat, and the raider threat...) Here's some primer pics of the alien fighter drones we might run into- Bottom- Front- Rear- Front angled- Top- Side- This was built entirely out of scraps and cheap stuff. The dome is half of a quarter machine container! The alien vehicle has elements of mechanical and organic structure- like the spine (made from an upside down 1/48 tank tread) and the random engine and enzo light assembly parts on the bottom of the chassis. Old rotary tool bits and an old distributor cap make up the plasma cannon assembly. This quick build is mainly to show what you can accomplish with a little imagination, and in between kits like I am. Hope you like it!
  22. It's all good, we all have our interests that set us apart Like me, I'm a complete and total zombie nut. I even think I enjoy zombie related stuff more than model building... ...sometimes. On the brony subject though, have you seen some of the newer show? VERY Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab for all you uninformed folks ) like humor. I've been to the dark side of youtube, such stories to tell...
  23. Not that I am meaning to offend, but are you a Brony, Otherunicorn? ....just wondering
  24. So far, great replies and information! I'd like to see this keep going guys!
  25. So I'm putting this little thread up, just to see some results from everyone- I prime and spray solely with el-cheapo(or medium grade) rattlecans. I sometimes get pretty good results, but I also have my times where I get really bad results. I don't own an airbrush, nor have I ever used one. What I would like to do is get some of you to post results of your spray jobs. Shiny, rusty, I don't care, just post it up with with the prep work explained and the name of the paints you used in the process, and if it has a clear coat, what kind it was. My paint collection is all Krylon and Rustoleum sprays, and if you've seen my builds, you know what kind of finishes I end up with. What I'm hoping to achieve on this particular thread is pretty much this- A 'catalog' of sorts, where any given person who is in search of a new way to paint, a new brand, and new technique, can come here and take a look at first hand results from amateurs and pros alike. Where someone can make an informed decision based on what they're looking for finish wise. I think it'll be fun, and informative, just like we like it here!
