1924 Fiat Mefistofele
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I'm having trouble sleeping, because of the incredible pain of this darn sciatica. In fact I didn't sleep at all last night... not even five minutes. Man, this kit is really kicking my butt. The engine has so many details, so many tiny separate parts, that I now have a stiff neck and sore shoulders and back just from the intense concentration you need in order to build this engine. New photo updates tomorrow. -
I've had a wonderful evening. Unfortunately, this wasn't it! I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like...victory. If I told you you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me? One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know. Dyno-MITE!!! Jane, you ignorant slut... Weeeeeeell, doggies! Holy crap! Alice... you're the greatest!

1924 Fiat Mefistofele

Progress on the engine is slow going because there are just so many parts. Here I have installed the main water pipe. The rubber hose parts are in the kit, and the hose clamps are decals, also supplied in the kit. Applying those tiny hose clamp decals one by one, and keeping them straight as they run around the hose, was a challenge. -

Speaking of engine... tonight I was working on the 24 spark plugs. Each one has to be cut from the sprue, the cuts cleaned up, the plating scraped from the mounting pin, then the rest of the plug painted white... then the separate terminals attached to each, then the boot and wire for each. Twenty-four times! In 1/12 scale! Needless to say, it was a huge pain. Even under the magnifier I have a hard time seeing what I'm doing, let alone have a good way to hold each plug while working on it. -

I couldn't find much in the way of 806 photos, either. Plenty of Mefistofele photos, but only 2 or 3 of the 806... and no engine photos whatsoever. -

You obviously didn't read my intro to this thread. It is a WWI airplane engine! -

These models not only equal Pochers as far as realism/detail... but in many cases they surpass them. The Mefistofele engine I'm working on right now is better than any Pocher engine I've built so far (Bugatti, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, and Alfa Romeo). Of course, where Pochers really shine are those gorgeous real wire wheels. -

They will be visible, just as they are now. -

Very cool, but I don't see a fuel pump. How would the engine run? -

They give you exactly 24 valve springs. Not even one extra. I'm just happy to have installed them all without one of them flying off into space. -

Got a little more done on the engine...cylinders, cam, and rocker arms installed. At this point the engine is maybe 20% done. There is just so much detail included in this kit, it's amazing. -
Is that a resin kit? Beautiful car, yours is pretty nicely done. I like the color combo.
