  1. Actually Cranky's real birthday is somewhat unclear...
  2. Foil is the easiest and best way to do things like window moldings, side trim and emblems, but like Skip says, it doesn't go around compound curves very well, like the ends of a front bumper. The only way to get a piece like that to look like chrome is to send it out and have it actually vacuum-plated... the way kit parts are "chrome" plated. An alternative is to use Alclad paint. It's tricky to apply, has to be applied in a particular way and over a particular basecoat, and it doesn't really look exactly like chrome (but sort of close).
  3. G–nice description of your technique... thanks!
  4. Yeah... there's more than one way to enjoy the hobby. Me, I like to build at my own pace, in my own way, on my own terms, when I feel like it... no deadlines, no restraints, no rules. That's how I enjoy the hobby. To anyone who goes a different route... enjoy yourself! We all get our kicks in different ways.
  5. Yeah, he claimed he saw dinosaurs and did time travel. Oh wait, it was the '60s, so... yeah...
  6. Are you serious? Your mom really knew him? That is too cool! :(
  7. Oh yeah??? Did she know "Question Mark" personally???!!!
  8. Speaking of "In a Gadda da Vida"... Here's an absolutely true story. When I was a kid I was on a local soccer team. We were supposed to be having practice one day, and all of us were there except José Gamboa. We all lived just a block away from the park, so someone said they'd run to José's house to get him (we all called him "Hosie, " BTW...). Anyway... we found out that Hosie said he'd be right out... as soon as he finished listening to "In A Gadda Da Vida"!!! (For all of you kids out there, "In a Gadda da Vida" took up one entire side of the album... 17 minutes). True story and great memory!
  9. Monogram 1/8 Jaguar XK-E... got it for Christmas back when I was 7 or 8. Great memories of my dad and me building it (well, mostly my dad building it for me while I watched and learned)...
  10. I thought those bumpers were called "Dagmars"...
  11. Speaking of Rocket 88...
  12. Toy Story 3 ranked pretty highly with a lot of film critics... I haven't seen it, but supposedly it's the best of all the Toy Story movies.
  13. Not too many got this one... it's a 1973 Vauxhall ("Chevrolet") Firenza CanAm. More info here: http://www.africanmusclecars.com/ChevFirenzaCanAm.html Who got it right: stasch mark taylor Badluck13 trogdor Modelmartin mr chips
  14. "Cartoon" and "animated movie" are not synonyms, they're two different things.
  15. Ok, I'm confused. The title to your post says "Need your opinion on my sport truck." And then you say "Some don't like the color, to them I say..." So which is it? Do you want opinions or don't you? Or do you only want positive comments?
  16. Don't always believe what you see on the box cover!
  17. I don't think the resting position for the wipers would be hanging down right in the driver's field of vision!
  18. Yep. Best way to do it. Just brush a tiny bit of clear onto the body where you want to apply the emblem, let it tack up for a minute, then place the PE piece.
  19. I have to disagree with you big time on preferring this over the E-type.... but the model itself? Fantastic!
  20. Looks very good so far! How are you doing the darkened seams and panel lines? Are you doing a wash and wiping off the excess? What are you using? Oils? Acrylics?
  21. Very nice! But I don't get the drooping wipers thing.
  22. I have to admit I also don't "get it" in regards to forcing yourself to build a model in a certain amount of time. It's like being forced to read a novel in a certain amount of time or build a chest of drawers in a certain amount of time. Yeah, sure, it can be done... but what's the point? But I guess for those who like the idea of a "24 hour build," the concept works...
  23. Here's a pretty cool one in 1/18 scale... figures included! http://www.diecastcountry.com/item.phtml?id=73517
  24. Lovie Smith is under contract. He's not going anywhere anytime soon.
  25. So it's a good thing we have both! SA for the beginners and MCM for the wingnuts!
