Tom you are progressing very nicely on this project. You've got a great feel for these camper projects. -
Try using non-frosting CA glue. You should be able to get it at your LHS.

NEW ADDITION TO "CLASS OF '58" -- '58 OLDSMOBILE

You know Tom, I was wondering the exact same thing. If anyone could put this now junk body to good use, it would be him, in his junkyard. I'll have to PM him these pictures and ask him. I owe him anyway for the help & stuff he gave me when I was working on the '57 Ford diecast wagon. -

OK, prepare yourselves because this is NOT a pretty sight. Apparently The Modelhaus changed their resin formula, and now Scalecoat is NOT safe to use as a paint stripper on their products. Had I read that fact on their FAQ list, I would not have used Scalecoat... but, I didn't, and I suffered the consequences... Live and learn right..?? Here's what the body looks like now... I have a replacement body on order from Modelhaus along with some other parts.. -
Stripping Modelhaus resin

OK, it seems that Scalecoat is now NOT safe to use for stripping paint from Modelhaus resin. Apparently they changed their resin formula, and Scalecoat can no longer be used...... I just learned that from first had experience. -

Oh BOY...!!! MAJOR MELTDOWN TIME............ LITERALLY......!!!!!! I have always used Scalecoat as a paint stripper, both on plastic kits and resin and never had any ill effects. Well...... this time was different...... way different...!!! The Olds body just melted in spots... the hood corners lifted and twisted(it was molded in), the trunk corners lifted and twisted, and the windshield frame collapsed...!!! Looks like I'll have to order a new body from Modelhaus... Live and learn. I'll really be sure to clean the resin bodies better from now on to be sure I don't get any more darn fisheyes. So this project is in a temporary holding pattern. -
That's a nice old beater you've got going there James.

Beautiful model Bruce. You did a great job.

Yep, I heartily agree on the use and merits of my Optivisor. I've been using them for almost 20 years. -

Ramfins59 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You got it right John...... it's all about having fun with the hobby and not really worrying about what people might think of what you build. -
So what's wrong with "more doors".." They're still cool old cars, and 2 door cars are getting even harder to find now.

Who sells metal dash knobs?
Ramfins59 replied to cruz's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Detail Master sells these, if they're not "out of stock" on their aluminum parts as they sometimes are. What you want is # DM-3350. Iused these on my '49 Merc model. -

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. This will be the first model that I've ever painted Pink. I just had a picture of it in Pink in my mind's eye but I didn't want the pink too be too pink, if you know what I mean. Hopefully it will come out better the second time around. Thanks Tom... I owe ya big time. -

OK, my buddy Tom is going to pick up a couple of cans of the Tamiya pink paint from the Hobbytown USA shop in Ashville, NC where I originally bought it, and he'll ship it to me (he works for the Post Office). Until I get it I'll work on blackwashing the grille, making the chromed headlights look a little better, putting blue dots in the taillights, assembling the wheels & tires, and starting work on the interior. Isn't model building fun...? Stay tuned for progress reports. -
Good for you Ray. I'm sure you will enjoy retirement and all the extra time you'll have for modeling. Good luck buddy.

Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well folks... we've hit a major malfunction here...!!! When I originally painted this car while I was down in NC, there were a couple of fish eyes that showed up on the body. I sanded those spots down to the primer and today repainted it with the same Tamiya Pink (TS-25) that I originally used. Whatever caused the fish eyes apparently didn't go away with the sanding...Grrrrrr...!!! They showed up again. Sooooo, the body is now in the paint stripper container. I'm not sure that I have enough paint left in the spray can to repaint the body and the continental kit pieces and the dashboard. I don't think my LHS has this color of Tamiya paint (at least I don't recall seeing it there). Inasmuch as I hate doing so, I may have to rethink the color scheme for this car. I'm a little bit bummed out by this, but hey, it's not the end of the world right? This car would also look good in Red, or in Black... How about Green...??? I'll get back to it tomorrow after the paint comes off. -

Thanks guys. Yeah I've got a bunch of new BMF all ready and waiting for this beast. -
I turned 66 back in April. Started building models back in the late 50's. Stopped when I discovered cars, bars & girls (not necessarily in that order) in the mid 60.s. Rediscovered the hobby back in the early 90's and have been happily at it again ever since.

Carl, I think it is Tamiya TS-23 Pink. I'll double check that tomorrow. Tom, I miss you're ugly mug too buddy. I'll be posting the usual updates on this build as they happen. I also picked up a half dozen new sheets of BMF at NNL East, which I'll definitely need to continue building these 50's cars. Thank you all for your encouraging comments. -
