Yeah, I'm working on a Modelhaus resin kit of a '57 DeSoto Fireflyte.
-
Thanks very much for your kind comments guys. I am encouraged by them all. David (Anglia105E) I think you are referring to the DeSoto Fireflyte, which just happens to be the car that is currently in progress on my workbench. It is a resin kit from Modelhaus that I got from them last year before they closed up shop. I'm doing it in Gold and Black and so far the Gold paint looks pretty good.

Thank you all very, very much for your great comments. I've got quite a few more of the great looking '50's cars lined up to work on.

Ditto... ditto...ditto... I had a car roll off a shelf once... never again.

Thanks Tom. Yeah I recently got another couple of pkgs. of the cranks & handles plus some other goodies from Norm. The cranks & handles really make a BIG difference on the promo interiors and other stuff too. I'm looking forward to seeing you again in April at NNL East. Stay well buddy.

This is a Johan promo (no engine or chassis detail). The color is Tamiya TS-11 Maroon. The BMF was a bear to do on this car, especially around the rear windows. I was able to get the front grille & rear bumper/taillights along with the promo wheels & tires from Modelhaus last year before they closed up shop. The promo interior is pretty "plain" in flat Maroon paint. I used black embossing powder for the carpets and added gas & brake pedals because there weren't any. The side panels got some chrome trim and resin cranks & handles from Norm Veber which I chromed using Molotow pens. The dash was painted body color Maroon with BMF & Molotow trim with some black Detailer. The steering wheel was painted white with Molotow chrome on the horn ring and a shifter column and turn signal stalk were installed using pieces of shirt pins. I also painted the interior headliner white and added an interior mirror, visors and a dome light. I always loved the looks of this car and hoped that a full detail kit would appear some day. It's not my best work, but I'm happy with it for now. Thanks for looking in on this. Any and all comments are welcomed as always.

Gregg's Status
Ramfins59 replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave, thank you for the update info on Gregg. Fingers and toes crossed that this latest procedure will be the one that finally works for him. -
A Thought about the Magazine, etc.

Me too... Wholeheartedly. Gregg Hutchings is indeed a real, live person. Back in the 90's, when I lived on Long Island in NY, I picked Gregg up from the airport to bring him to our LIARS Club show. I've also met him at the NNL East show. I've done some "collection work" for him for monies due from dealers and hobby shops for the magazine (I did A/R Collections work for 32 years). Aside from the physical problems with his back injury, the loss of Golden Bell Press and Harry Pristovnik forced Gregg to learn, take on and manage all the steps and tasks of putting out a magazine..... (Editing, layout, writing, printing, distribution, mailing and postage, advertising and getting advertisers, getting show coverage and photos, subscriptions, financing, legalities, etc...etc... and I'm sure there are a few more...). Add to all of this, his personal family issues of dealing with and caring for aging and ailing in-laws. A lesser person would surely have given up a long time ago being faced with so much adversity. Gregg has a great love for this model car hobby of ours and has been literally doing all that he possibly can, physically, mentally, emotionally and financially to keep things running. I, for one, am looking forward to that "light at the end of the tunnel" for him. -

Paul, I looked up Big Sky Resins to try to find those hubcaps, but they say this car is no longer available.
-
Steve, this model is just phenomenal... I'm loving it. My first car was a '67 Galaxie 4 door, in Champagne Gold with a black top and an all black interior.
-
That is just gorgeous Paul. What did you use for the hubcaps?

I agree 100% Tom. While he has been getting the magazine printed out of his own pocket (with a little help wherever he can get it) his own pockets are not very deep. He really got screwed when Golden Bell Press pulled out. This Forum brightens my day every day. I check in on here several times a day...... (nice to be retired with free time.) -

I have this kit and my plan (down the road) is to make it a Street Rod using the engine from the '50 Olds Custom kit since it is an Olds. Hopefully I'll be getting to it in the not too distant future...

Thank you all very much for your encouraging comments. Bob (TooOld) - '50's Graduate #1 was a Modelhaus 1950 Cadillac that I built about a year ago. I also have a couple of 1950's diecast cars... Chevy, Lincoln & Studebaker.

Here are pics of the interior. I also added a shift lever and turn signal lever using pieces of shirt pins.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your kind comments. this was a fun build. I have a few more "rare subjects" to come in my pile of unbuilt resin kits

After almost a year of not building or finishing any models, today I FINALLY finished one...!!! This is a resin 1950 Nash kit that I got from Modelhaus before they closed up shop. It is a Curbside kit, therefore no engine or chassis detail. I painted it "plain Jane Gray" (primer) with a clearcoat. The interior is also Gray with a flat black floor and side panels detailed with BMF and Molotow pens. I added gas, brake and clutch pedals because there were none. The dash is also Gray with BMF trim and Molotow pens. I added a gauge face to the steering wheel gauge pod and also the clock face. The clock also has a PE ring for a bezel, and the gauge pod and clock both have a drop of clear epoxy for lenses. I also added interior visors (from sheet plastic) along with an interior mirror and dome light. The exterior mirror and antenna are from my parts stash. Thanks for looking in on this, and, as always, any and all comments are welcomed.
