  1. Welcome to our plastic playground Dennis.
  2. I also have been very lucky in getting a lot of the older kits, builtups, promos and a bunch of diecasts for my 1950's car collection on EBAY for very low or reasonable prices. My usual limit is about $50. The shipping charges will sometimes keep me from bidding but overall I've been pretty lucky. Most of my wins have happened during the mid-week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). I've been buying on EBAY for a little over 3 years now and depending on my budget / finances at the time, I usually try to limit myself to one purchase per month. I've got over 2 dozen cars still in the TO DO pile from these purchases, and at the slow rate that I've been building lately I'll be busy for a couple of years.
  3. You hit a home run again Tulio. Great job.
  4. Wow Jim. That's almost an eye-searing yellow. Great job as usual.
  5. Congratulations Gary. Yeah EBAY can be wonderful when you can get the cars that you really want, at a price that you can really afford. Just be careful that you don't go too overboard as it's easy to do.
  6. Cheer up Tom, I don't hate you personally....... I guess I should have just said that I hate those sniping programs and some of the people who use them. It's actually going on 24 years that we've known each other...... My first NNL show was 1992. I'm looking forward to seeing you in 6 weeks. Stay well.
  7. This actually irked me late yesterday... A couple of 1955 Plymouth promos were being auctioned off on EBAY for very reasonable prices. I've been trying to get a '55 Plymouth for my "Class of '55" collection for many months. I put in my max bid ($50) and waited until the auction was ending...... The auctions for 2 cars were ending within about 10 minutes of each other. At the last 6 seconds of the first one, I got sniped, probably by several people...... The winning price was $78. So I bid the same $50 (my usual limit) on the second one...... and waited... Again I got sniped in the last few seconds, probably by several people again...... The winning price was $112. I know the auction Sniping programs have been discussed at length before on this Forum, BUT I HATE THOSE PROGRAMS AND THE PEOPLE WHO USE THEM... !!! I'll continue "being patient and persistent" and hopefully I'll eventually get a '55 Plymouth.
  8. And I'd be right behind you Tom.
  9. I also agree with both Tom and Steve. So far I've done up 3 dozen 1950's cars with tons of chrome on each one with at least 2 more dozen in the pile yet to do. Like Steve I go through at least about 2 to 3 sheets every year. I pick up 3 to 5 new sheets at the NNL East show every year to be sure that I always have a fresh supply on hand. It definitely takes patience and practice to lay it down without kinks and/or wrinkles but sometimes it happens anyway. You either keep those occurrences to a minimum and live with it, or, peel it off and start over again. Waste is a given and should be expected, but as Steve said, with practice and experience you learn to minimize the waste.
  10. Pretty neat although tough to make out a lot of details.
  11. Yeah, I caught that too. Sure isn't the bottom of the Hot Rod. Great to see all the other old cars though.
  12. Yeah that color looks great Steve.
  13. That sure is a crusty old Rod Bernard. Great job.
  14. Welcome to our plastic playground Matthew.
  15. Welcome to our plastic playground Jonathan.
  16. Great job Clifford. After searching through EBAY and other sources for hard-to-find 1/25 scale cars from the 1950's, I sometimes wished I was into the smaller 1/43 scale models. The choices are fantastic with many. many more options available.
  17. Does anyone know where Tom Coolidge is located? I'd like to try reaching him by phone...... He still hasn't responded to either of my emails. It's not that I'm really impatient, I just feel that someone in a business like this should be more efficient in responding to inquiries on his products to avoid losing prospective sales.
  18. Welcome to our plastic playground Shane.
  19. Welcome to our plastic playground Nicholas.
  20. I'll be there as usual helping my buddy Tom Valenta who will be shooting pictures for MCM's NNL Show magazine coverage. We've had our room booked for Friday & Saturday nights since last year's show, and it is confirmed. Looking forward to the Ramada meet & greet, and the tasty food and Margaritas at the Tilted Kilt.
  21. Absolutely...... I'd love to see how you did it...... Because I'd LOVE to try doing it too...!!!
  22. Jason this car is looking better and better...
  23. Wow Manny, that looks fabulous. You sure do know how to "mess up" a diecast.
  24. Thanks Tom. I'll keep hoping to eventually hear from him.
  25. While I totally agree that ANY new plastic kits of fifties cars would be very welcome, I have filled some of the Buick / Olds / Pontiac, etc., "holes" in my 1950's car collection using promos found either at shows or on EBAY, a couple of Welly diecast kits, some Mint diecasts, and some Modelhaus kits. I still have several more lined up to do. These are the ones I've completed so far: 1955 BUICK, 1955 OLDS, 1955 PONTIAC, 1956 BUICK, 1956 CADDY, 1956 MERC, 1956 PONTIAC, 1956 OLDS, 1957 PONTIAC.
