Arizona Warmth... Thanks for that info...!
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Yeah Carl, she's a lot like her father ... the little things in life make us happy, although we can dream big. -
One of the cars I want to build is a '52 Chevy using the AMT '51 Chevy Coupe kit. I have Modelhaus' '52 Chevy chromed grille and bumpers, and I know I'll have to do some scratchbuilding for the side trim on the rear fenders. I'm kind of stumped on how to come up with the taillights. Here's what they look like on the car... and here's what the 1:1 taillights look like... Can I get some input on either where I might find these in 1/25 scale, or, how I might go about making them??? Thanks in advance for any help.

Excellent looking car Peter. I'll be getting around to building one of these kits eventually. Yeah, those Mopar fins are awesome aren't they? I can't wait to line up all of my mid and late 50's Chryslers, DeSotos, Dodges and Plymouths for group pictures once I finish building them all.

Great looking Caddy Al. Nice job. I feel your pain with the c-c-c-c-cold.

Art, you're knowledge and experience in automotive history and mechanics is impressing us all. Great work as usual. -
That's a great find Kevin. It's always cool to find stuff we've thought was lost forever.

Robert, at this point in time I'm way too old to be sleeping on an air mattress in a tent all over God's green earth..!! Once I'd get down on the ground on that air mattress my old bones would never be able to get back up again. I'm just happy that she's doing what she wants and likes and is having a helluva good time in the process. She makes enough money to pay all of her bills (College loans, car insurance, cell phone bill, credit cards) and gas for her car, food, campground fees, etc.. So far she says she has met many, many nice, friendly people and that all of the "traveling Rennies" help and look out for each other. It reminds me of how things were with the hippies back in the late 60's and into the 70's. I was part of that scene way back then and have some fond memories of those times. I'm sure that Jamie will have tons of wonderful memories to carry through her life from her experiences. -

Yeah Andy, I envy her enthusiasm, desire and ability to travel around this great country of ours and see all the great sights like the Grand Canyon (she said she pee'd over the edge...!!! ) and having Beignets and Chickory coffee at Cafe Dumond in New Orleans. -
Tamiya paint stand
Ramfins59 replied to Mike Chernecki's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If the top piece with the spreadable wires keeps coming off, or falling off of the swiveling base piece (which mine never has yet), why can't you just glue the 2 pieces together??? I've never had to turn my stand upside down or drastically sideways to paint the rocker panels, fender edges or under headlight or taillight "overhangs". I just hold the stand with the model body on it a little higher and spray away. I'm sure to wear a rubber glove so I don't paint my hand and turn the swivel base with my fingers. Haven't had a problem with my Tamiya paint stand in 2 years. I love it. I used to use a bent wire clothes hanger and would have to tape the inside of the model body to the hanger with masking tape to be sure it wouldn't fall off. I got tired of having to do that. -
Dupli-colour paint, clear coat question.
Ramfins59 replied to thatjellyfish's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've used Duplicolor's Clearcoat for years over both Duplicolor and Tamiya paints and never had any problems. Just don't spray it on in too heavy a coat causing runs. Put 2 or 3 good coats over your paint, let it dry for a couple of days and you're good to go for using a polishing kit. -
How many model A Ford kits are there ?
Ramfins59 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got the AMT '29 Ford Roadster, the Rat Rod Pickup, the '31 Model A Sedan, and the Model A Woody kits in my stash. I just haven't built a Street Rod in a while since I've been on my 1950's car building binge. -
My younger daughter (32) is currently working at the Arizona Renaissance Fair located in Apache Junction. She got turned on to these Fairs by a friend and absolutely loves travelling around the country working at the various Ren Fairs. I equate it to her running away and joining the circus..!!! In the past several years she has traveled to Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Aside from working at those locations, she has attended the Ren Fairs in New Jersey and here in the Pittsburgh area. She packs up her little orange Suzuki Reno to the roof, sometimes using a roof-top carrier, and hits the road. The various Fairs have campgrounds where a lot of the traveling Rennies stay. I can't believe that most of the times she is happy and comfortable living by herself in an 8 person tent, sleeping on an air mattress with blankets and quilts, using a Coleman heater and a Coleman stove for cooking. When she can hook up to electricity she plugs in her little micro fridge. She sets up a tarp over the tent with a bit of a "covered porch area" with folding chairs in case of a rainstorm. It's like she's on a permanent camping trip... If there are no shower facilities at the places she stays, she'll find a Truck Stop with showers. Occasionally she'll treat herself to a hotel room for a comfy bed and bathroom/shower. At the Louisiana Fair she has her own little business selling cookies, pickles and pretzels and at the end of last year she did very well at it. For a "free-spirit" she has a Culinary Assoc. Degree in Baking & Pastry, a BA in Entrepreneurship, and a Masters in Human Resources. With all those alphabet letters after her name, she has never been able to land a decent job in any of the fields that she has her degrees in. She called home the other night to tell us how wonderfully warm it is in Arizona...... 70's & 80's, walking around in T-shirts, getting a sunburn...!!! I told her to STUFF IT...!!! We're freezing our butts off here in western PA with single digit and below zero temps..!!! She'll be in Arizona until the end of March and then she'll be heading to Georgia. My wandering child...

Improved Lighting & Magnification Options?
Ramfins59 replied to nitrojunkie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
My Optivisor works great for me for extremely tiny, close-up work. I found though, that since I had the cataract surgery on my left eye, and the new lens transplanted, I don't need to use the Optivisor as much. Things will probably get even better for me when I have the procedure done on my right eye too. -
Hey Ray, we've gotta get goofy sometimes... it helps us stay sane.

Predictions are for -8 tomorrow morning with a daytime high temp of 5......!!!!!! This is just ridiculous. My furnace runs and runs.... it'll shut off.... and comes right back on again in 5 minutes. I am soooooo not looking forward to getting my next gas bill.

That's a great looking car Tom. I may try to pick up one of those cars.

GSL-XXV anyone looking forward to attending ?
Ramfins59 replied to randx0's topic in Contests and Shows
I've never been there either, but hope to make the trip some year. I guess it's one of the things on my "Bucket List". I would look forward to meeting a bunch of new people and competing, just to see how my models might do there. -
Thanks Bruce, I appreciate your kind words.

That is agreat looking car, and I LOVE those Modelhaus wheel covers.
