SOUTH HILLS MODEL & TOY SHOW PITTSBURGH PA.
Ramfins59 replied to N~8~Ball's topic in Contests and Shows
It was a pretty good show with some classes being a little light on entries due I guess to the snow. Only a couple of vendors didn't make it, probably for the same reason, I forgot to put new batteries in my digital camera so I couldn't get any pictures . It was great to meet a couple of Forum members there too. I got lucky and brought home some "gold" too. The roads actually weren't too bad with it snowing all day, just really very slushy. Congratulations to all the winners. -
Funniest Thing I Saw Today

Tom, I sooooo remember that diorama and was going to mention it in this thread until I saw your picture... the picture is way better than just a description of the diorama. Poor little jelly donuts got squished... what a tragedy...!!! -
Welcome to March!

Big improvement Joe... good work. That's the beauty of this Forum... you can get good advice from a lot of people... all you have to do is ask for it. -
Great looking interior Steven. I look forward to seeing it Under Glass.
-
Congratulations to both of you Chris and Clayton.

how to two tone model cars?
Ramfins59 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'll usually put the Tamiya tape on the side trim lines so after everything is painted the BMF on the chrome trim covers the paint separation line. A picture of my 2 tone cars won't show those points, but I'll vouch for the clean paint lines once the tape is removed, whether you believe me or not (and I'm not saying this as a "snarky" remark. I've tried using BMF to mask paint but found that the BMF is sometimes a real bear to get off after it's been painted over. -

Yeah, drive safely everyone...... we're supposed to be getting some snow tomorrow. I'm not letting it scare me from going like happened last year. Seeya's there... -
The more I get, the more I need...
Ramfins59 replied to TheRX7Project's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep... some of us have it BAD. Once you wire your first engine and it comes out good, it's just "easy" to do it on every model. The engines just look so bare without the wiring... then you add brackets, and fuel lines, and master cylinder brake lines, and battery cables, and heater hoses, and a radiator overflow line. and a windshield washer fluid line............ that snowball just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Don't get me started on interiors...!!! -

Your best bet for masking is to use Tamiya tape. It is GREAT stuff, although a bit pricey... but well worth it. Burnish down the edge real good and you get NO paint bleed under the tape. Use it along the edge of your first, lighter paint color, and mask off the rest of it with regular masking tape. A well-stocked Hobby Shop should have it. Or you can order it from http://www.modelroundup.com/ It's listed under "Glue/Paints/Tools" and is $5.75. You won't be disappointed. -
Steve, you'll have to send Norm Veber an email at: ReplMinCoMD@aol.com and order the parts (and a catalog = $3.00 ?) He unfortunately doesn't have a website or pictures of his stuff, but, like Modelhaus' resin products you can be sure of excellent quality. I believe the price for the door handles and window cranks is $5.50. I just ordered 3 pkgs. that I'll pick up from him at the NNL East show. I like to have enough on hand for all of the older 50's kits and promos that I work on I believe that Norm will only be a "spectator" at this year's NNL because he said that he is trying to catch up on all of his current orders. His is a "one man shop" and his stuff is so good that he has trouble keeping up with all the orders. I give him credit for wanting to fill his order backlog before wanting to produce stock to sell at a big show, although it would be great for him if he could manage to do both.

Nice job on that '40 James.
-
Yeah..... I can't believe it's lasted this long and is up to 4 pages..!!
-
Steve, instead of using those flat PE interior cranks and handles try getting the resin ones from Norm Veber. They have "dimension" to them and IMHO look a lot better and more realistic. You can either paint them chrome silver, or spray them with either Alclad or SpazStix, which I have yet to try.

That looks great Andy Nice job..

Now, that is definitely a different project Tommy..!! It's looking good so far.

Dodge 9 Car Transporter
Ramfins59 replied to Mopar - D's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I'm not into building trucks and have never yet even thought about trying one...... but I just went through this thread from the beginning and...... WOW...... I am impressed with the amount of work that went into this project, and the final result. Great work Dan... absolutely great work. -
Yes Niko, but the most frustrating thing is that, all along until that end point, everything has gone perfectly... great parts fit, minor assemblies go very well, paint finishes are near perfect, etc...etc... Then......WHAMMO... It won't all go together...!!! Fortunately (or unfortunately..??) this only seems to happen on the models that you've put the greatest effort into with extra details and finishes.
-
Yes, that's the type of problem that I occasionally run into. You can test fit parts, etc. until you turn blue, but until the entire glass, interior and firewall are in the painted body, and the engine and wheels are mounted on the chassis, that is usually the time when I sometimes find that everything does not fit together properly...... it's always at final assembly...!!! Extremely aggravating... It usually then involves disassembling something and doing some sort of modifying, trimming, sanding, etc., which then involves a bunch of reglueing and paint touch-ups Just when you're so close to the end of the project. Ahhhh, the joys of the hobby...

I got that same catalog in the mail a couple of days ago. Very cool stuff. I've been debating whether or not to spring for some stuff...... but I've never really been into doing dioramas. It's just that the pieces are so cool looking.

Has anyone built any Banthrico metal kits..?
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you for the responses guys. I wanted to get some input, but I doubt that I'll pick up any of them. -
Good job Justin. I love the work on the brick walls and the corrugated garage door.

Arrangements for the inevitable
Ramfins59 replied to wayne swayze's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've told my wife that I'd like the family to pick whatever each of them wants to keep, some stuff my oldest daughter would keep for my young grandson, and the rest of the built stuff, unbuilt kits, tools, paints, etc., should go to my good and closest friend and fellow modeler.... unless I live long enough for my grandson to actually want to build models, and then the majority of my stuff would most likely go to him. I have to write all of these wishes down and include it in my will. -
Most people here will give you honest comments on your work. Many people, however, will look at threads on cars that interest them. You have to understand, and accept, that not everyone is into foreign cars and will sometimes not open those threads. We all have our own "niche" or type of cars that interest or appeal to us. You shouldn't get bent out of shape due to the lack of comments on certain of your threads.
