Clear coating MM Metalizer paints
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Jerry Norton's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
yup, that is my experience. Do not want to end up with "silver" after using Metal! -
Well sir, I like your results!
-
Great wheel choice! And the way you photographed it, the scale realism is really fantastic as well! Really fine indeed.

I know there are indeed more ways to one to reach a goal, and it is nice to have several options as you learn. My sincere thanks toy ou sir for sharing what you are doing.

Clear coating MM Metalizer paints
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Jerry Norton's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Not sure what I am doing wrong, but when I use ANY clear/sealer so far on buffing Metzlizers, I am not happy with the finish afterwards. Over time I will keep trying other clears/sealers, but usually, I just plan on not handling the parts much after buffing. This entire projects is buffing steel , straight from the can, buffed out. Over time, as needed, I buff it up again. I can not imagine clearing it and chance having it look like a silver paint. -
Thanks, that fact that you are indeed using enamel gets me going in the right directions. I have tried several things, some from the train section, pigments etc. I like the learning process, but hard to think I will ever rise to your level of art. Great inspiration in your work sir. I thank you for effort to send that post, sorry your time was lost on it.

Sorry to hear that for you. I pray you will be well. Keep a positive outlook as well, Medical tratment is truley remarkable these days.

Thanks Bill. I am a bit OCD (well, OK, a lot LOL). I do not put my self at all in the same class as many great builders on this forum, but I do try to take my time and make the work look as realist as possible. A huge pet peeve of mine is seems, and mold lines. I try really hard to make them go away! Thanks Terry!

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the feedback. I tried to make something that is not just super shiney, car show trailer queen only, etc. I wanted something that a person could actually drive and live with on the weekends. So, there is not that much clear on the paint, and actually I buggered it up a couple little places in the paint, but decided to leave them. (IE:cleaning a brush, a flick of laq thinner hit the back and spotted it, rookie mistake for sure) Thought about turning that into a couple bullet holes, but decided to just touch it up instead. Honestly tho, it does feel good that others are responding so well to it.

Thanks for the input. I agree, the font wheels needed more as well. I dry brushed silver/metalic on the spokes as well to give in a more metal reflective look, but that did not translate well to the pictures. (I am horrible at photography) I may indeed go back and chrome the "cap" with foil, but I might not. My biggest fear in doing that is that I see several things I would like to repair/change. Then the next thing you know, I end up reworking the entire project. LOL

I'll have more pictures loaded up tomorrow at my gallery page, http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?app=gallery&image=5685 but for now, this one is done! I am also posting more pictures in Under Glass. BTW, I was going to change the title of this subject to reflect the update, but I could not find how to edit the title. I have seen it done, anyone know how? Thanks! Happy Easter!

SOoo, if I recall correctly, years ago you long hair was beaded, so let me ask, any temptation there to braid/bead the beard when you had it longer?
-
OK, let me just ask a couple questions. First of, do you ever video any of the work as you do it? I would really like to wrap my mind around your weathering process, I just can not get that realism. For the black washes, like those on your grease drums and several other items, what are you using? I have tried several things, and unless I am applying most washes on a flat painted surface, they only pool up and do not "flow" out. I have tried several different things as well. Any suggested readings etc? In all honesty, your stuff looks so very real. You should indeed be very proud.

Jim, Glu I have not been reading many posts the last few days, so I am VERY sorry to be reading this so many days later. PLEASE know Glu, and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Alright! I am in the back-stretch! Here is where I left off last night. For the Chassis, I only have to mount the gas pedal, (brake/clutch will hang from under dash) and the upper radiator hose. I have to mount the rear glass in the body, and then mate them up, then add celnoid and plates. Should be done possibly tonight, or Sat at the latest. brakes, fuel lines, airlines, all already ran. Shifter actually goes through floor and mounts to trans. I "may" redo the grill, but I am so happy to be getting near complete, not sure. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/med_gallery_8985_914_553038.jpg http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/med_gallery_8985_914_931550.jpg http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/med_gallery_8985_914_979623.jpghttp://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/med_gallery_8985_914_662522.jpghttp://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/med_gallery_8985_914_496817.jpg

I like it. If there were one thing i would changed/add, I would say throw some dirt on those tires! Otherwise, really great job!

Looking really good so far to me!
