  1. My wife would never go for this. She won't let my hobby out of its room.
  2. Nice start, and I really like the color choice. I've got a soft spot for these, my first car was a '63 Chevy.
  3. They probably double dog dared them....
  4. I know it can be upsetting when someone or something you're waiting for is late, it drives me crazy as well. However, some things are worth waiting for. My first granddaughter that is now two days late is one of them, MCM magazine is another. I personally don't subscribe, our postal service here sucks, however, I NEVER miss an issue. My LHS holds a copy for me so I don't miss an issue. If all we had was SA, which is a fine product on its own, this hobby would be missing a valuable resource. I agree that this magazine may be slanted to the personal interests of Gregg. But regardless of who was in charge this would probably be the case. If it was my baby, the articles in it would probably reflect my tastes as well, regardless of how hard we try to include something for everyone. Its just human nature. Regardless of how late it may be I'm personally going to wait. No one tells me how quickly, nor how often I have to finish my next model. And I'm not going to even ask someone who has the health problems that Gregg does how to run his magazine, which is his baby. Remember patience is a virtue, cultivating it will do us all some good. Now............back to the workbench....................
  5. Harry, I have always enjoyed watching your builds. The craftsmanship is inspiring. The way you take a model, and detail them, brings them to life. I've learned a number of things watching you build these scale works of art. This one is becoming my favorite. The craftsmanship you are putting into this wooden body is amazing. It's making me want to dig out the only 1/16 scale kit I have in my stash, a 1913 Model T Van, and build it. I've got far too many on the workbench now, so it will have to wait. I want to thank you for taking the time and effort to share your build process with us. We benefit so much for it, and these threads like this one are the reason many of us are here. Thanks again, Harry. And amazing job, keep up the good work.
  6. A '53 footer has somewhere in the range of about 6500 to 7000 rivets,..........just in case you wanted to know.
  7. Keep that thing away from speed bumps.......
  8. One thing to keep in mind is that not all trailers are exactly the same. They vary depending on the length of the trailer ,the tandem configuration, the height of the kingpin, and the features inside the trailer. The hole patterns from left to right on the trailer are going to be different, mainly due to weather or not it has a counter balance ramp, and on which side. Also the fact that the drivers side have clean out doors that are not the same width as the panels themselves would complicate the process. Not all panels are the same size, width wise. they vary because of the differences in length, be it a tandem, spread, tri-axle, or quad. This will also effect the length of the belly of the trailer. Also the panels above the kingpin are normally a different length then the ones above the tandems. There are many different configurations that are available for livestock trailers, in fact many are special ordered to the customers specs. It would thus be very difficult, if not impossible to make a model that you could just add panels to make it longer, the possibilities are numerous.
  9. My first car was a '63 Chevy Impala 4dr hardtop, dark brown, 283 v-8, w 2-speed tranny. What a dog! Had a lot of fun in that car. Interestingly my wife's first car was a '63 Chevy Impala 4dr sedan, white, 350 small block, (her brother put it in after blowing up the original 283) with 2-speed tranny. I totaled mine in an accident in an unmarked intersection, and hers caught fire when a fuel line came loose driving down the highway. Sure do miss those old cars....
  10. I like the " working " diorama. The water coming from the hose was a nice touch. That appears to be a really cool kit, even if it is a European truck.
  11. I kicked State Farm to the curb 40 years ago. NO ONE gets a second shot at me, and I've been telling people what I think of them since.
  12. I just bought this kit a couple weeks ago, (like I need another one), I hope I do as well with mine as you did with yours. Nicely done.
  13. I've got a Datsun pickup that I started in '83, still not done. I really should drag it back out again and try to finish it.
  14. 12 of 13 on the science quiz, and 9 of 10 on the auto one, dumb mistake too!
  15. I saw one in person today, didn't help for me, I still don't like it. But then I like early sixties Chrysler products also, so my opinion may not be worth much. Gotta remember it just my narrow-minded, pin-headed opinion.
  16. The Wal-Mart Game, only takes one item......a tackle box, tell the cashier you're going to bury your grandpa in it...... You'll get quite the look from the cashier. True story, my nephew did that, and yes we buried grandpa's ashes in it.
  17. There's no stack, which means no fire box, which is needed to create steam.
  18. All of us hate to lose a good modeling resource. However, 35 years producing quality aftermarket parts has to be hard to maintain. So I appreciate that they are ready to retire. With any luck at all, they can make an arrangement with someone who can take over, and keep up the same quality that we have become used to.
  19. I like how this one has started, i'll be watching this one.
  20. I just found this thread tonight, can't believe I missed this one. This is one of those ideas we have that we think would be really cool to build, but don't have the courage to try. You, however have done a fantastic job of pulling this project off. My hats of to you, well done.
  21. Nicely done model. I like the concept, and the build looks very clean and well done.
  22. Love your take on the Mack. I've also built this kit, even though mine was straight out of the box, it is an enjoyable build.
  23. Did you buy it with the idea of building it? My guess is that you did, so just build it.....
  24. Me too. Did the same thing with a Ferrari 250GT that I built a couple years ago. I couldn't stop adding detail after detail. Got it all together, and couldn't see half of it, what a bummer! My current build, straight out of the box, need to complete something, so went for a simple project to get the juices flowing again. Then back to another supper detailed project that I started over a year ago. Maybe I'll get it done now.
  25. Very sad indeed. It almost feels as if part of my childhood just died. I was also not aware of his health issues. What ever he did in his professional career, he did with such class. He will be missed, especially for my generation, that grew up watching him.
