Revell, in my opinion hit a home run with one of their latest ideas. The build and play snap tite kits.Yesterday was model building day with "Papa". I've been working some time with my 7year old grandson on his project. His 4 year old brother wanted one of his own, so off to the hobby shop we went. We found this model for $12.95 which he was not only able to assemble by himself, but was able to play with afterward, like any 4 year old would want to do. Revell if you see this, thank you. These kits are great for kids with little or no skills yet want to be able to do their own model. This may not be what us 50 something year olds want, but we have to remember that we aren't the only ones involved in the hobby.

Any Future Truck Projects or Goals ?
uncle potts replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thought I'd start that Lonestar that I got about a year ago, and I would like to build a modern 53' Wilson Livestock to put behind it. the complication is that there is no modern kit for the trailer. I'll need to scratch build the entire thing, which will be quite a project. -
I like the "Bandit", cartoon cars have always been a favorite of mine, even though I must admit I've never built one myself.

Like always, stunning work. You've finished more in 3 months than I've done in 2 years, And absolutely fabulous work.

Man stay away from that guy. He's nuts! I'm not even sure he has something to sell. Looks like a crackpot to me.

Building season is back! 1904 De Dion Bouton
uncle potts replied to Harry P.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice to see you back at the bench, Harry. Love watching your builds, the wheel treatment was very creative, and looks really good. Nice job, and thanks for the tip.... -
I had mom's 65 Dodge Polara out one afternoon, when an old man in a Ford LTD ran a red light, and I proceeded to T-bone him. It pulled the big bulky fender out, but otherwise didn't do anything else to the car. Still got lectured about defensive driving and watching out for the other guy, and how I could have avoided the accident, blah, blah, blah, blah...... It was some time before dad would let me drive one of their cars. Then 2 months later my brother totaled dads caddy, boy was I glad that wasn't me.

When my kids were in 4-H, some of the projects they did, received almost no input from us as parents at all. There were others that needed some instruction and coaching to help the kids improve their skills, and to help them do a better job. That was ok if the child actually did the work. Sometimes a teacher has to actually show the child how to do something for them to get it. The problem that I see, is that, most people see model building as something children do, that doesn't need any coaching from an adult. They don't appreciate the skills that need to be developed, over time, to produce a top notch model. It's just a toy they put together. Those attitudes won't go away with some people.

Garage sale finds...
uncle potts replied to fat50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In my neck of the woods there are few, if any, models at garage sales, flea markets, or goodwill. And what you do find are often times over priced. I did find one this summer at goodwill, a '06 mustang for $3.00. My grandson is building it right now.
