  1. He's been using the sprue cutters and sanding sticks. I was trying to teach him the proper use of all the tools, it may be a bit too soon. Part of the problem is that I remember cutting my finger wide open, and not so much the blood, but it hurt like the dickens.
  2. ......when you hand a seven year old an xacto knife. My grand son wanted to try his hand at a model "just like grandpa". We've already built a snap kit. Now he wants to do a "real" model. I know he needs to learn, but when he starts using a tool that can practically cut his finger off, it makes me a little uneasy. I stay very close, and "coach " him through every step , so that there are no need for a trip to the emergency room. But it still makes me nervous. How about you.... what experiences have you had trying to teach a little one our hobby?
  3. I'm getting ready to remodel my bathroom, and we were considering an automotive theme...... that tool box sink just might make it into my remodel. And the Mrs. likes it as well,......
  4. Nice clean build. I like it.
  5. That's great! Hopefully you'll still feel this way after 35 years like I do.....
  6. Not near as much as I would like, sometimes. I have more than enough kits to keep me busy for a very long time. So most of my money, what little I do spend, Is for paint, glues, and any other supplies I may need to finish a build. Since the wife does the budget, and I've been off work due to two surgeries in the last 8 months, this has made life much easier for her.
  7. I'm Building a weathered '41 Chevy pickup. I want to use some decals to represent a work truck, and want the decals to look beaten. faded and old. Any suggestions?
  8. I had a co-worker ask me to build a replica of a car he once had. He'd buy the kit and paint, and give me $20.00 to build it. I told him that I don't have enough time for my own builds, and that it would take more than $20 bucks to cover my time. He suddenly was no longer interested, and thought I took too long to build a model. He could do one in a weekend, why couldn't I?
  9. For the month of June we had 16.6 inches, rather sick of the stuff myself!
  10. Both "haunting" voices.... gotta love it!
  11. We have several of this style of car crusin' the streets here. And I personally can't relate....however this one did make me chuckle, just a little bit. As many others here have said, it's not my cup-o-tea, but there is obvious talent in this build.
  12. I have all of mine in a file cabinet in my room in the house. until last week I had no problems. at 6:00 am one morning the spray nozzle on a can of off brand silver paint, blew off spraying paint all over the bottom drawer of the cabinet. It had a cap on it, but blew it right off. Took 2 days to air out the house. Needless to say, the Mrs wasn't happy. At least it was contained to the file cabinet, and didn't get all over the room. Can't say that I've ever seen this happen before. Hope it never happens again.
  13. I have a couple of 1/87 kits I've built, very challenging, and IMHO loads of fun. So was the wrecker a kit or and assembled model that you detailed?
  14. A stock one and a hotrod version. I'm a little jealous, I only have the old manual " push me down the hill " model.

  16. I've never liked cheap tools, since I work with them every day. However I have had good luck with everything I've bought there. Those small spring and ratcheting clamps. And the best tool I've ever bought, the magnifying glass that clamps on my glasses. Now I can see those small parts.
  17. So I take it you're not a fan of taco pizza?
  18. 2010 I had my right hip replaced, last December it was my left knee that was replaced. End of April I tore two tendons in my left rotator cuff, and they had to cut the bicep at the shoulder and reattach it. I'm off work for at least another month can't use the arm, thus I can't build. Now I have insomnia and can't sleep. I have muscle spasms in my lower back and legs, and can't sit for any length of time. I'm only 55 and so miserable most of the time that its hard to spend any time at the work bench. Growing old sucks!
  19. A top speed of 121, no seatbelts, and wheel nuts put on by hand with a speed wrench, my how things have changed.
