  5. Have to agree with you on the '68-'69 Road Runners. While I'm more of a GM person I still respect good style and performance when I see it. The first "68 Road Runner I ever saw looked just like your build and I still remember how good it looked. Very nice build , look forward to seeing more.

  7. Everyone has a favorite era, depending on when you first got into automobiles. From a styling point things really started to change in the mid fifties. The warmed over bodies from pre war were being replaced with fresh ideas. By about '55 things really started to change with small fins popping up and 2 and 3 tone paint jobs. By the late '50s the theme had become lower - wider and longer with even bigger fins. Early 60's the fins went away and more body sculpting became the theme along with stuffing the biggest engine they could make into it ( YA ) . The 70's styling got much smoother almost understated. Then in the mid to late 70's the "smog police" and safety comities started designing cars and it just seemed to go down hill from there. As always there are exceptions, but they are just that. As an aside I think what they are building now in many cases are as exciting as anything from the past, and I've seen to much past personally. Just my thoughts.

  10. Since your building a Hot Rod, as has been pointed out , you can mount the coil where ever you want. In the 1:1 scale the coil is usually mounted as close as possible to the distributer to minimize any loss of current. Another reason to mount the coil to the firewall was to help minimize the effects of engine heat on the coil.
  11. Got 100 %. I did the "Fin" one also and another 100 %. I might be old but I remember these cars well, seeing some of them brought back some great memories.
  12. A shame about the paint problem. It looks like the Simple Green had a bad effect on the filler on your front fenders also. Have you considered raising the front wheel openings ? You have the skills based on everything else you've done. This was a common modification on this style of car in the '50s. I agree that the gold looked good, but with a little bit of a scallop style candy paint over it to really show off the body mods you've done.
  13. I have a hard time walking and chewing gum at the same time. Stopped doing more than one at a time, found that doing one usually turned out better because I could focus on it alone and not get parts mixed up. At one time I would have 2 or 3 going at once and they just never seemed to get finished. That works for me , I know a lot of builders get going on several projects at once and that seems to work for them.
  14. This looks like it could be a fun build. I have never heard of this kit. Look forward to following your build.
  15. I built one as a child. It was supposed to represent a '32 Ford roadster. As I recall it was little more than an oblong block of hard wood with a dip in the middle for the interior. The sides that you glued on to the block was made of Balsa wood. The sides covered the back half of the "body" and extended to just past the door opening. You would then sand the leading edge to blend it into the hard wood body. There were two notches in the block on the bottom for the wooden axels. The tires were a very hard rubber like material thru which you could drive a nail to hold them to the axles. As I recall it cost about .15c. A lot has changed since then.

  17. Great color combo and really clean build. I missed what you were using for the carpet and head liner, they look perfect. Was the shifter something you put together or is that from an after market supplier ?
  18. Good cleanup on the body. The one thing I have always had trouble with when I've stripped the paint is getting the door jams cleaned out. What color scheme are you going for on this ?
  19. Some ideas on paint schemes. You like red or even a primer. On the roof as I remember there is an area that runs parallel to the drip moldings and has a chrome molding separating it from the roof top. You might think about an accent color in this area and in the body side molding that would match the interior. The wheels are something that can really change the look of a car. A lot of Chrysler products seem to lend themselves to the early chrome Crager five spokes. I would stay with a 15" size rather than the 20" or 22" you see on everything. You could do the same thing with just some chrome wheels also.
  20. You have a very nice looking Promo that you might want to think about preserving. I understand your desire to have a model with an engine and chassis detail. If it fits your budget and if you can find one, AMT had a Continental kit that has a chassis and engine and even offered an option of a wagon conversion. I know they are still out there as I see them at swap meets every year. Either way you have a Promo that is in better condition than you would usually find.
  21. Had a '51 Ford a hundred years ago. The block and heads were a flat bronze color. The road draft tube , air cleaner, generator, water pump pulleys and various brackets were black. The fuel pump was a natural silver metal color. the base plate for the carb was a gray black color and the carb. it's self was a very flat silver. Now that is sore of O.E.M. colors. In later usage they could become what ever color the builder wanted them to be.
  22. You might have to use a Corvette hood from another model and graft it into the Camaro hood. I just did a Nova "Camaro style" hood graft into a '66 Impala hood. Not as hard as I thought.

    You mentioned you still needed to polish the paint ? I wish I could get my paint jobs that smooth after polishing.

    Very realistic looking. A friend of mine bought a new '64 Le Mans the same color as this with black interior. I always thought these cars were some of the finest. The way you staged your model adds a lot of "life" to it.
  25. Great build. I like the last photo with the drive shaft on the ground. Been there, done that. That is why most sanctioning bodies require "drive shaft" safety loops. Great job on the patina paint job.
