Why were there no GM aero cars?
espo replied to Fabrux's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What Art said! GM was under a microscope with Washington at the time. Thay sold a more cars in the US than Ford - Chrysler - American Motors. -

what off road vehicles would you like to build?
espo replied to randx0's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would also like to build some off-road vehicles. Years ago I lived near Pismo Beach Ca. I had a modified VW Type 1. It was called a BAJA style, somewhat like the ones used for desert raceing at the time. My wife has always liked Jeeps, and we got her a TJ Wrangler in '97. We got to go to several Jeep Jamborees in Colorado and realy injoyed it. In '08 we ordered her a new '09 TJ Wrangler and again used it at several Jeep Jamborees. This is her daily driver also. Sorry to bore you all about myself, but I put this out there so that everyone can see why I would realy like to see one or more of the model makers step up and make some off-road models of current models. While I personaly like some Jeeps, I think it would make valid buisness since to make GM, Ford, and Dodge off-roader also. I'll bet there are many people on this forum who have 4x4s in their driveways. Sorry to drag on, but I think that the model companys are leaving money on the table by not offering these kits. -
Looks great,! If your'e painting the bed strips you could try lightly running a #11 blade to out line the molding. I've used this to help keep the paint from bleeding out onto the wood. This is a nice model, but I straggled with the grill/lower front fenders. There is very little to support the two parts where they are joined. .

I did a wood bed in a 50 Ford pick-up useing a paint layering technique I read about on one of the forums. The base coat was Tamiya TS-68 Wooden Deck Tan. Next I used some Tamiya X-33 Bronze that was lightly deluted, which I wiped lightly so that it would stay on edges of the wood grain molded into the bed. Next I used Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange which again was wiped of with a terry towel. You could use verying colors for darkness.

Colour washing a 57 chevy's front grille
espo replied to Haubenschild's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have had the best luck painting the grill with Tamiya X-12 Gold Leaf. After 24 hours you can "black wash" with either The Deailer Black-it-out, or thin some Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black. -

Charcoal spray can paint for convertible top
espo replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You might look at RUST-OLEUM TEXTURED spray. Its for indoor/outdoor metal surfaces, but it doesn't seem to hurt plastic. I have used it for a vinyl roof on a model of a 50 Ford Crestliner. I think it comes in a few colors besides the black that I used. I bought it at Wally World. The finish is flat to simi flat with a very fine texture much like vinyl. With a little flat over spray you might get what you"re looking for. Good Luck -
I have enjoyed watching your Willys build. I would like to get some of the frenched headlights for a future project. Could you give us a web site where I could find them?
-
Looks real nice. I have been looking at this and your convertable both. I realy like the style of your build. Now I have to dig out one of these kits myself. Keep up the nice work.

They both look better than what Chevrolet offers today. Peter's silver photo shop looks better than the Camaro of today. I personaly owned a 1969 Camaro for 18 years. Sold it in 1995 to get a new Chevrolet pick-up. When Chevrolet was teasing us with the new Camaro prototypes I was hopping I could get a new one. Still can't get worked up over the new Camaro's. They are nice and all, but not 30k+ nice.

At one time this kit had a hardtop in stock and chopped top. Looks nice, I looking to see how this turns out.

You might look at Scale Dreams (Scaledreams.com). I got two from there last year. Very good looking and priced right.

41 Chevy
espo replied to hd2500gmc's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Your braver than I am. This is starting to look real nice. By the time I got to the picture of the cab in primer I thought you might have found a resin cab or something. I like how you did your fenders. -
The flames realy grab your eye. The level of detail without useing anything else is amazing

Thay are all winners but some very different subjects. My pick was because of my personal taste in subjects. All should be very proud of their models.

You raely nailed the look. I remember whene I first saw the Thunderbolts at the Pomona Winter Nationals. I was more of a GM type , but you have to love the TBolts.
-
Real nice start. I want to see what you do with the tail lights.

Excellant pictures. But I have looked at pictures from many others and I question the fuel lines. Its hard to tell this many years later just what is correct. Like your photos and the photos I was able to find in Hemmings, this is how I ran my fuel lines. In the photos of Marshall Teagues car at Dayton show a differant routing. Than the photo from the Hostetler Musem shows a third fuel line layout. Makes you wonder which is which, or are all three correct. This is a real nitpick, but still you wonder. Do any of you know why the fuel line would go from the pump to something on the bottom of the intake manafold? I can't recall ever seeing anything like that before. Could it been some kind of chock for the engine with two carbs?

62 Chevy "6"
espo replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The power steering pump would be monted on the drivers side, near the steering box. As others have said, you could get a 6 in an Impala, but most were in the lowerline models. -
When Did This Happen?
espo replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are many companies that do convertable conversions for dealers. This looks like something from the aftermaket. The convertable top that seems to have a sun roof for the back seat passangers. Like most of you I also thought the Murano was a wast of sheet metal. -
Very thoughtful of you. Your 53 vicky looks awesome. If you want to build a 51 ford, try the 49 from AMT with the 51 trim from Modelhaus or AMT's 50 ford that could be built as a convertable or a vicky hardtop. I have used the Modelhaus 50 & 51 ford Crestline tudoor kits and they have excellant detail on both.

Dodge Charger Police Car
espo replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1) Kit has decals that you see on box. 2) There are several light bars in each kit. This is a very accurate Charger and also has the stock interior which is what I used to build a model of our 2010 Charger.
