  1. I'm at a loss for words! Rare for me. Just a remarkable diorama!
  2. Off the hook! I like it, road rash and all!
  3. Well said! Dave Burket runs a relatively low number of his kits, which always equates to a higher retail price. This is not gouging. Stevens International sold quite a few "private run" kits years ago, and their retail price(s) were always higher, simply because their production run was typically half to a quarter of the number of kits the manufacturer would normally produce.
  4. As much as I love the old box art, I don't think I've bought an empty box. Yet. I've been fortunate enough to find old kits with the contents intact, in pretty decent boxes. Occasionally, I've actually bought kits from eBay sellers with boxes that are almost pristine. It's rare, but it happens.
  5. Agreed! Great conversion!
  6. I thin the herd, and somehow the herd continues to reproduce. Most of my kits are in large plastic storage boxes that I bought at Lowe's, living in a crawlspace area in my basement. Others are boxed, sitting on rollers in the basement. The swap meet dedicated sale kits are in my garage.
  7. Now I feel stupid. The artist did a great job!
  8. Neat little boat! Where did you get that? Manufacturer is?
  9. One of my favorites from Cruz! Just stunning!
  10. I think the lowest setting on the average Nesco unit is around 85 degrees, adjustable upwards. Leave your parts in the unit until you can't smell any paint odor, which is usually only a few hours. I tend to ramp mine up to about 90 degrees or so.
  11. I'm halfway through the book, and I can say that it's excellent! I'm enjoying every page!
  12. I see Dick and Suzanne at iHobby every year.
  13. Does this count? I actually did this box art build for AMT/ERTL in the early nineties. Three of them, two of which are on the side panel. And I can't say they were particularly fun to build. I lifted the image from eBay.
  14. Neither does vodka, Pepsi or tea!
  15. The owners are VERY involved in the hobby industry, and Dick (the husband) is the current IPMS president. And an enthusiast!
  16. Floyd is the owner, and a really nice guy!
  17. Me? I left my (our) "stuff on the basement floor right after we moved into our current home. For about a year and a half. Bad idea. Hurricane Irene blew through in 2011, the power failed along with my sump pump (no battery backup), and the basement flooded. About 6" of water accumulated, and a number of boxes collapsed from wicking up all that water. I was cleaning up the mess for a few months. I've fixed the sump pump issue. I tossed the existing one and replaced it with a new, better unit featuring a two day battery backup. There is nothing on the floor of my basement. Everything is either shelved or on rollers, except for trash containers. All good. .
  18. I suspect you're right. I've only built one rust bucket, and it's pretty lame, but I'm itchin' to do another one.
  19. My guess is that he's finally retired. Carl's gig at Compleat Games & Hobbies was only part of what he did. His other job involved stage work (show business, sort of). The man knew his plastic kits. Probably better than most.
  20. The book should be in hobby shops by next week, and it's VERY well done! But, you gotta like dirt and rust. I do.
  21. Your woody model EXCELLENT model building!
  22. Seems everyone knew Karl at Compleat Games & Hobbies, and I did too. He had a ton of stories, and I always enjoyed talking to him. It's a shame the shop closed, but it had been through a number of owners, two of which about ran the place into the ground.
  23. Here's one for those folks with deep pockets. About $220. Gulp.
