I think that Haynes a UK Publisher has a book about the GT40.

Never heard of the Gaahleri brand of airbrush Luke. I have heard of Grex and Sparmax brands though. It would be very interesting to read what actual users think about each of those 3 brands. We keep reading about the long established brsnds, Iwata, Badger, Paasche and H&S in these columns, but would like to see objective write ups about those other 3 brands. Surprised to hear that Trevor was not getting on with his Badger Patriot having used Badgers for many years like myself. Might be worth sending back to Badger to test and investigate the problems with it. I guess that as it has already been replaced by Trevor with a Harder & Steenbeck airbrush, it will probsb!y just stay boxed and sit on the shelf of doom !

The Patriot is I would guess a very good airbrush. I don't have one myself but two very old Badgers that I have been using for many years, so I would stick my neck out and say that your Patriot is probably not your problem judging by the quality of my old airbrushes. It's probably the paint mixes that are causing problems. It might be an idea to take a look at alternative needle and nozzle combinations for your Patriot. A very inexpensive way of experimenting with what you already have rather than going down the new airbrush route.

No substitute for good tools like the ones you use John. I am a retired engineer and still use tools that I bought and also ones I made at college as an apprentice. A Browne and Sharpe combination set, some Moore&Wright Micrometers and calipers and a Swedish made Eskilstuna Vernier caliper have been in constant use all through my working life and now still in regular use in my model making workshop. Never owned any Starrett tools but have used them in the past.. Really well made.

Neat idea ! You got yourself a good bit of tooling there John. Starrett is a well known company in engineering circles who make high quality engineering tools for measuring and marking. Probably not available from the well known hobby tool suppliers. You would need to go to an engineering industry specialist tool supplier to obtain one if they are still in current production. I like the replaceable scribing point in this tool for marking out too.

The IPMS USA forum might be worth a look at too for aircraft related kit information.

Actor Robert Redford passes away at 89.
Bugatti Fan replied to John M.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
A great film actor who preferred a solitary life away from the cameras. No celebrity partying just to be seen in those circles. No huge ego. An A lister who was also quite modest and quietly supported causes helping others that were important to him. Not just a great actor but a true gentleman . -
What did the Romans do for us Pete ? Lol

Kit chrome always looks over bright to me. If I want to go down the route of using it rather than stripping it and using a proprietary chrome finishing product I tone the kit chrome down with a coat of Tamiya Translucent Smoke. It really works well and adds a protective coat, as some kit chromes are quite thin and tend to blacken if not protected. The old Monogram classics are a good example of this.

Most art and craft stores stock this sort of clay by a number of manufacturers. Quite good for making scale loads for trucks and other stuff.

Try re phrasing it Larry, a place your ad again if the mods have not already moved it back into the wanted section.

Marvel's Hydra coupe 1/12 scale full scratch build
Bugatti Fan replied to François's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Francois, Jose is Big Messer. His name is to the left under his post avatar. Big Messer is not suggesting for one minute that your particular models belong under the table in his last post.. He was getting at those regular pot hunters who enter numerous contests and get very upset if their models do not win anything. So don't think that you were personally being got at. His comments were meant to be encouraging folks generally to approach competitive model making with the right mind set. -

Bill. The Two Wolves. The whole world would be a better place following that bit of philosophy. -
FORUM CHANGES THREAD
Bugatti Fan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Enough photos have been lost already by hosting sites changing their T&C's and thus spoiling threads completely if users did not comply. To allow individuals to take down their photos would only cause more disruption to threads. -
Marvel's Hydra coupe 1/12 scale full scratch build
Bugatti Fan replied to François's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Jose. Run of the mill mediocre modellers with smooth brains. Hmmm. That's a bit strong and I feel disingenuous to a great many model makers. We all have different levels of ability so please don't lose sight of the fact that this is a hobby that all should enjoy and not be concerned about over competitiveness. There are however the out and out 'pot hunters' who make a big thing about the most trivial 'violation' as they see it to complain and get another competitor's model disqualified. All I can say is that they are quite sad people if they are that desperate enough to have to win by any means. They are not always mediocre modellers by the way. Some are very good but so fiercely competitive they seek out any way to get an advantage. Competitions could do without those sort of people where winning is the be all and end all, make complaints about other competitor's models and try to remain anonymous to avoid any personal flak ! Personally I would not dream of complaining about another competitor's model as I consider it to be gamesmanship and underhanded. -

Model show judging will always be a contentious issue, so don't be too disappointed Francois. I have been lucky enough to win awards at national.level and have had to accept losing many more times as well. Having also judged at national level accept that one cannot please everyone either having now seen contests from both sides of the coin so to speak. My own philosophy about entering competitions is that you win a few and lose even more as the standard gets even higher but I don't lose any sleep over it. A judge's verdict is just someone else's opinion at the end of the day, that's all. And one must remember that your models will be no worse at the end of the show from when they were placed on the table at the beginning. -
Interesting thread. Very good methods for making tarps described. Unfortunately I could not open a number of the photos in two of the posts that had small symbols indicating that there were pictured to open. Upon trying, the tiny symbol just reappeared on a rectangular black background but the pictures would not open. Don't know what host was being used.

Wires for hoses and lines and stuff...
Bugatti Fan replied to Lionel's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My supply of wires and tubing is made up from.scrounging odd bits and pieces over the years like John does. There are a number of companies that sell 'scale wires'. From what I can see all they do is cut off bits of wire from larger coils repack it in quite short lengths and sell it on. A very expensive way of buying wires for model making I think. -
Topics of ignored members are still visible...
Bugatti Fan replied to Michael F's topic in How To Use This Board
There's an irony in this Bob. Looks like ignored members cannot actually be ignored judging by what you said in your post. Not having a reason myself to want to ignore any member, how is it supposed to work? Is it meant to block what they put up from being viewed just by the instigator and not everyone else when the instigator logs on ? -
That video made interesting viewing.

Wires for hoses and lines and stuff...
Bugatti Fan replied to Lionel's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tend to store wires in many diameters sourced from various things. Electronics, old style multi core phone cables etc. I don't really get technical about working out actual scale diameters as I can pretty well see what will look right and to scale on a model.
