  1. Nice little more back in the day. Will.he following this build.
  2. A very fine grained veneer made from Pear Wood is one I have used when I built a model of the wood planked Hispano Suiza H6C. I think there may be one of two pictures of my model in the thread ' Lets see some scratch built things'. It will give an idea what the pear wood veneer looks like coated with a little button polish. Button polish is a form of Shellac with a slightly golden tint to it, normally used for French Polishing furniture.
  3. Not bothered about this date issue discussion of wherever it is 4.20 in the world. The only date I will interested in is when this stuff will be available in the UK ! LOL.
  4. Lamborghinis are 'Look at me' cars. Rolls Royces however say you have got it made !
  5. Thanks for the further update Dan. As the saying goes 'Watch this space' for the time being.
  6. Your models will certainly be conversation pieces at the show. Cannot add any more accolades to all those that have already been posted. Brilliant models! What next Francois? Will you be reworking that Pocher Rolls Royce you acquired a little while back?
  7. We all have up and down days, correct? Sometimes things go wrong, sometimes right. Sometimes we lack motivation, sometimes not. Some days we get bogged down trying to accomplish a small detail that takes ages to complete and some days it all comes together and we fly Often when something is not working out it pays to take a break from it and get your head together. Often that is when you might get a Eureka moment before coming back to it. Model making should be a pleasure, not a penance ! We have all been there a number of times. An every day story of model making folk !
  8. While thing is a bit of a mess ! Hopefully this will pan out eventually as folk begin to see reason.
  9. That die cast AM looks good Mike. Chris V. Agreed. The corporate bean counters at the car factories don't exactly do the model maker any favours !
  10. Thanks for the update Les.
  11. Have the execs discussed all thie suggestions yet between them ?
  12. Tamiya might well reissue the Aston at some time, considering the tooling costs and it there looks to be a real demand for it.
  13. I have a small surface plate that I made at technical college when I was an apprentice back in the sixties. I don't use it for my model making as it is a pain to keep degreasing the hand scraped surface and grease it up again after use. So, I use a flat thick glass lens from a halogen security lamp that I had to replace some years ago.
  14. Kit Form Services is a UK company that sells transkits for truck modellers. They have photo etched tool kits in 1/24th scale. Another thing they have is very good decal sheets for pin striping that includes 90 degree corners and radii.
  15. I would think that the answer is fairly obvious. To keep the cost of the kit down and thus sell more units. We are enthusiasts, but the majority of kits probably get sold to Joe Public who are not concerned about engine details.
  16. Maybe there might be other threads on this subject in 'Tips and Tricks' .
  17. I can remember a guy on that site starting a scratch build of a 1/6th scale Bugatti 35B. Got as far as seeing his radiator and polished aluminium front axle made before the site went down.I Does anyone else remember that thread on there ?
  18. That Alclad Candy colour used on your model looks great Justin. Interesting to learn that the tone can be varied depending on the number of coats sprayed. I see that you have laid down your candy colour over a silver base coat. Other base coats like gold, copper or brass I would guess should give some interesting tonal effects too using the Alclad candy colours.
  19. That old Escort Mk2 kit is I agree with others on here that it is in dire need of a replacement new kit by whoever. In my last posts I was not defending it, but pointing out about the consideration that a manufacturer has to make in choice of subject and project whether they will get a good return on their development and tooling up costs As Belkits did a Mk1 Escort, chances are that with a bit of lobbying they might be inclined to make a Mk2 as that would seem logical as rally cars seem to be their thing. At one point I thought that a 1/24th scale Metro 6R4 would never happen! So thank you Belkits.
  20. The MPC contests. Now there's a blast from the past ! It would be nice to revive that sort of thing with a major manufacturer sponsoring it. Creating a new, separate forum for this activity would be far more difficult than integrating something like it into the current forum, not to mention the extra costs involved in setting it up and running it. The discussion here is about the current forum adding fee paying tiers to generate income from those wanting special features to be added or some current features to be charged for.
  21. Considering how much tooling up a new kit costs, I'm not surprised that older issued kits sit along newer items. Tastes change, and what might have been a go to kit years ago might not warrant the risk of retooling for a market that may have changed quite a bit over the years. Nothing stopping you from knocking whatever kits you want to James whether a paying customer of not ! Lol.
  22. Interesting to see something really unusual being built. Very nice model taking shape here.
  23. I think a 'bragging rights' thing going up against other forums is probably might not be a very practical idea. Other model making forums are general rather than a specialist forum as this one is so not like for like. Also, I don't think there would be any uptake as most forums probably would prefer to do their own thing and not get into a ratings game, besides having to get someone to commit to regular adjudication on their behalf.
  24. Could be right there Sid ! When you think about it much of our lives are spent just doing routine chores
  25. Maybe you won't Jordan, but others will .
