  1. Looks great; the poverty caps and old MPC tires suit it well. Revell does seem to have an aversion to wipers at times...IIRC the '72 Cutlass is missing them as well?
  2. A. If one wants to read this board in "stream of consciousness"...view it via "View New Content" link to the upper right, next to board rules and right under the "search" button. Voila...all the latest messages grouped together in the order they appear on the forum by time and date, just like the woefully outdated Model T style board at Spotlight. I don't even pay attention to what various subforums the subjects come from. I read the subject matter, and if it's of interest, I open it. Unless you've been away for a week or longer, it's the easiest way to catch up. B. I've never been convinced "Randy Lammers" was a real person vs. a fictitious character, of which there have been many before, but I seem to remember Tom Carter chiming in once that Lammers was one of his customers. If so, money talks...he's never been banned. Then again, there may be more than one person who over the years has posted using that name. Sadly 20% of my life has gone by while the model world has been "entertained" by a Randy Lammers...
  3. i really do'nt knowwhat to think he might be juts som body who is palying around and not realy nammed randy lammers but what doe i know and if it is juts someboddy palying a big joak THEN THEY CAN GO PUT THIER HEAD IN A TIOLET AND GET A CSC SWIRLEE NOBOYD LISSENS TO ME YUO IDOIOTS
  4. I just shot my chrome-plated Viper ACR wheels in old-school Easy Off. A minute or two later I was rinsing off the residue. The chrome is gone in seconds, nearly in front of your eyes. Can't breathe the stuff, but water neutralizes it. The clear carrier is still in place, it's smooth and glossy and it's a good primer coat for the gloss black paint that will be applied. There will be a lot of gloss black on the model, so the wheels will be painted in the same batch as all the body parts. My motto is "why wait?".
  5. Dave, I have no idea where you might find that kind of stuff. You might be able to crib "period-similar" parts from the Opel GT or Sunbeam Tiger. Those Volvos look a lot like Ferraris...you don't necessarily have to build it stock, do you?
  6. See that bottle of merlot in the background? You know, the one that's in focus? That's the reason
  7. Looks great, hope to see it at our ACME NNL in November
  8. Nice work! Did you work on the front brakes/suspension location? Looks like your front calipers are bigger than what came in my kit, and the wheels look properly centered. And yeah, make sure you used rivets instead of adhesive for the rear splash pan heat shields, or your 458 might blow up
  9. I still use the "regular" chrome; I tried the "Ultra" and wasn't happy with it...it didn't stick well, and had a slight pattern of adhesive that showed through. When BMF was going through the period of foil that cracked and the adhesive became weak, I couldn't use nearly a full sheet before it was toast. When BMF came out with the first "new and improved" it was a nightmare. I could not trim it without tearing, using new blades. When applied, the adhesive made it look like it had orange peel...even on a perfectly smooth surface. It was coated, wouldn't buff out like it should. It made me learn to use kitchen foil with the Microscale foil adhesive. It works well enough, but I still would prefer regular "old" BMF. When they reformulated it again, I heard good things. I got a fresh sheet this spring. So far, so good.
  10. This. I couldn't say it better. It's a hobby...treat it like you want to personally. Everyone enjoys it at whatever level they want. Some want to scratchbuild and push every limit, some like to just make good looking shelf models, some like to tinker and never finish anything. As long as they're happy...I'm happy.
  11. I never "log out" but today I had to log in; first time it's done that.
  12. I have them; they were given to me. I see no reason whatsoever for the exorbitant prices of these. They certainly are not magic in a spray can.
  13. Thanks for all the replies
  14. Yes, the new Ultimate Mirror Chrome is better. I was out of the old stuff, and this new stuff is even better.
  15. Thanks; the taillights are "clear" with a body color trim piece in the middle, they don't show red unless lit up. The taillight assembly on this kit is 5 pieces; one full-width clear piece that mounts internally, two chrome reflectors, and the two separate body color trim parts. Thanks! The paint is primarily Tamiya TS pearl light blue, with a little mica blue and metallic green added. The first clear coats also have some transparent blue added.
  16. Thanks for the comments! The blue is definitely my favorite as well. I've seen a couple 1:1 Astons in red and liked them a lot, but somehow the red manages to bore me a bit on the model. I should have shot it Mica Red, would have looked a lot richer (the DBS seems to look best in pearls/metallics). I sure won't be painting any Ferrari kits in the F1 red
  17. Yup. The new one looks about 75% okay...but the remaining 25% just doesn't cut it...still looks like a 3rd world kit car.
  18. I just completed my second Tamiya Aston Martin DBS. I built the first one for expanded review in Scale Auto; that one is painted Tamiya TS Ferrari F1 light mica red and built completely OOB. It's a typical "shake and bake" Tamiya kit with virtually no hassles, and inspired me to build a second DBS. It's got just enough detail to look great OOB. Yeah, simplified engine, but what you see in the finished model looks as complete as possible. The second is painted in an "Ocean Blue" concoction that I mixed from various decanted Tamiya sprays. In the spirit of using yet more Ferrari parts on an Aston model (you may have seen my Ferrari 458 I posted today with aftermarket optional DBS wheels), this one got a set of aftermarket 20" BBS Challenge wheels intended for a Ferrari 599 GTB. I shot these in Spaz Stix new ultra chrome over Tamiya TS gloss black. This is a very durable and bright finish, I like it much better than Alclad. I've handled the wheels quite a bit and the polished look remains and didn't wear off whatsoever.
  19. I was dissatisfied with the wheels/tires and stance on this Ferrari so I changed it. The wheel/tire diameter was a bit too large, the tire profile was too tall and square. I have a couple sets of aftermarket Aston DBS wheels, so I used a set on this car because they looked good (and a lot like the F430 Scuderia wheels). I painted the wheels in Tamiya gunmetal rather than black, and I used some parts box tires from an F430. I also revised the front wheel mounting; I ditched the kit rotors/calipers in front as the calipers were way too small and the integral rotor w/the wheel hub didn't center the wheels properly. I'm a lot happier w/the look. I still need to put some small cavallinos on the centercaps.
  20. Change is good Great model, can't wait to see it up close.
  21. I have no problem at all if it is added. I view the forum from the "View New Content" tab, and then open threads that interest me. Doesn't matter what section it is in; I never backtrack to the main page w/all the sub sections unless I'm searching for something in particular.
  22. Either I'm blind, or you may have a local sale going, as I see nothing about airbrushes & accessories being 50% off this week. I see "Art Brushes" are 50% off....and they don't work very well with compressed air The HL Ad
  23. Great model, great photo tutorial on fixing a common paint problem without the usual "I messed up and have to strip the paint" emotion that plagues 99% of car modelers. As I mentioned elsewhere, I think you should restore the finish to full gloss. The whole "matte finish" thing is just a passing fad...works for a few show cars, is terrible for 1:1 cars (common scuffs that can easily be buffed away? Forget it...car must be repainted). When the fad is over you'll be left with a model car that is very dated. I have a few custom/street rods built in the early '90's, and finished them using early '90's paint schemes...and they look kind of silly now. Go for "timeless".
  24. Go to top of page, to the two bar graphs of vote results. The ones that show the two categories voted on. Roll your cursor over the small print in the parentheses that shows the vote statistics, you'll see a small box appear that says "View Voters". Click on that line of text to see the list of screen names that voted.
