  1. Just a cold, cold rain here. Had some slight travel issues last weekend when I had to turn around on a trip to N. GA because of snow/bad roads, but by Sat. morning it warmed up, roads melted, so I made it. Snow shovels? Snow blowers? Huh? That's what the sun is for
  2. Nice work so far I checked the car out pretty good one day when I stopped into their showroom to drop off NNL flyers. No camera, of course
  3. We'd better quit horsing around before we get in trouble
  4. This thread is going to go epic. In record time the discussion has shifted to hooters.
  5. If you smell ozone, run. If I read your title exactly as written, my answer is (thanks Mike:D) "they may have done that on Nip/Tuck". Or Google "Lorena Bobbit" And no, I'm not going to show you pictures
  6. His reply is somewhat hidden as he typed it inside his 'quote' reply to me. I had to look twice to see it myself.
  7. Good news again for exotic lovers...Tamiya has an all-new Aston Martin DBS coming: Aston DBS And a modified reissue Mercedes SLR 722 Edition. Only text so far on their Japanese page, don't know if it's the HT or the cabrio. Also a reissue of the Martini Porsche 935/78 Turbo ´78 LM Revell AG is showing the new Mercedes SLS (gullwing) for release late in 2010. SLS Gullwing
  8. Apparently so, if you don't live in Japan. But watch Feebay, everything shows up there eventually. And if it's too expensive, wait for the next time.
  9. Amen brother! That's exactly how I think. At the peril of other people pointing and laughing at us, but I can handle that
  10. That's because it is a Honda Civic with a Mustang front & rear clip A late '90's Civic hatch, by Revell (read the replies above).
  11. Run them through Google Translate. It's easy, just follow the directions. However, I don't think they'll ship internationally. Translated example
  12. Speaking of funky weird...anyone else see vestiges of the original BMW M Coupe in this? That's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this.
  13. Twit. Best reply of the day...so far;)
  14. You need a ton of light for the best f-stops (f22 and up), but even at lower f-stops the more light you have, the better. I use a series of drafting lamps, and let the camera adjust for lighting color (setting white balance from my white backdrop). I use foamcore & black illustration board at the sides for reflected light, all the better to see nice reflections in the side. My camera flash isn't great...too direct, but it's a point & shoot, not a digital SLR. Hope you can make it to B'ham, there will be a lot of ACME folks there (we have a group of 4 vendor tables), and good news (I hope) for Morton.
  15. Crazee! And it works No lack of torque after you ditch the V-Tec Revell or Fujimi Civic for the hatchback portion?
  16. Great shots w/the new camera! But I will say...pictures don't do this model justice. It has to be seen in person to really appreciate. Are you going to B'ham next month?
  17. Color choice is always subjective. What one person loves, another may not. This car looks good in almost any color. I prefer the darker shades, but I'm sure the ivory or silver are fantastic. BRG is a color I love, but it's overdone on so many models that I'd be looking at black, royal blue, or maroon as classy alternatives, all with the brown leather. A darker gunmetal shade with a maroon red interior would be nice. Honestly I'd have a hard time nailing down the color on this one, but my heart would probably go with maroon.
  18. Of the 3 1/25 multi-piece bodied models from that era (Futura, Club de Mer, and Eldorado Brougham), the Cadillac is the least successful at looking accurate when built. As someone else mentioned, it has a slightly cartoonish-look about it, most of it centered on the front of the car which just looks "off". As if the front end is too short, the grille unit a bit too large, too flat, and mounted so low that the front bumper almost looks like a cowcatcher. It can be made into a nice looking model with some effort...but the Franklin Mint did an Eldorado Brougham that decimates the Revell kit in looking right. I got one years ago for a song, less than what original Eldorado Brougham kits were going for before the 1990's reissue. Long story short, it's an interesting and crude kit. Don't expect anything close to modern Revell quality and ease-of-assembly. Enjoying this kit to the fullest requires a completely different level of historical perspective and intestinal fortitude.
  19. And both companies are no longer with us...
  20. Thanks! Your Camaro rocks...and those wheels are perfect for it. I'm going to go with some sort of large diameter BBS wheels...the Leno car has what looks like 20" BBS monolithic wheels, and they're just now becoming available from the model aftermarket. I have some Pegasus sleeved BBS wheels that look pretty good on it, not quite as nice as the real car, but close. Once I get it sitting on all fours, I'll decide one way or another. Being 1/24 scale, the wheel openings are huge and a lot of otherwise decent wheels look small on it, especially in back. Here's a quick shot of it from January before I did the chin & side vent modifications. I threw a set of Brian V's Hobby Design Ferrari 599XX BBS wheels/tires under it, they look pretty good (they're incorrect for a 599XX but look good regardless):
  21. It was a good race, and several ACME members had a Daytona-palooza to work on our models during the race. No 24 hour builds, just working on whatever we are working on...Jon Waters working on a Ferrari race rig, GT Mike Lawrence his Evo engine, Brian Venable his Ferrari 599XX, and I worked on finishing a Fujimi Fiat 500 & bodywork on the Leno Camaro. Great weekend to stay inside and play with models...congrats to the winners of the race...I guess the Cayenne is good for something other than a whipping post The DP cars are still fugly...sure wish they'd kill the turret top...still can't believe there are no kits of them. Congrats on the RX8 win too. Zoom Zoom ACME Daytona Palooza pics
  22. I fell in love with GM's twin-turbo V6 Camaro at SEMA; attributed to Jay Leno. The body modifications are subtle & look factory (because they are), but give the car a lot of character that also helps pull your eyes away from the odd V-shaped grille opening. Perhaps this is the front end of the upcoming Z28. Time will tell... It also runs what look to be nearly identical BBS "Challenge" wheels commonly seen on some Ferraris. There are now two aftermarket companies making the 20" Challenge wheels intended for the 599 GTB...and will probably look great on this model as well. Until I get them, I have some 23" sleeved Pegasus wheels w/BBS-esque centers. I'm not out to make an exact replica, just using what I like & not worrying over making it a perfect replica. Silver is boring, so I'm going with a much more vivid shade of "boring"...pure white. That is one reason I'm using the Jada kit as a basis. Secondly I prefer the slightly larger 1/24 scale aspect, and third it has a nicer, crisper body than either AMT or Revell. It also has side glass. It's a great basic kit, aside from the tubbed chassis. I'm building it curbside, so that's not an issue for me. Once I've got it sitting right, I don't care what it looks like underneath First step was making a template to cut in the hood vents: The plastic is so nice to machine, it's much higher quality plastic than we see from AMT & Revell. Next step was revising the chin. I cut away the base of the chin, but saved it as I needed it to be lower & pushed out further. I extended the lower grille openings, and cut out the round driving lamps to make room for the larger corner intakes. Spent the weekend working on this while watching the Daytona race. Four of us were having a "modelpalooza" on Saturday, two of us on Sunday. It compares pretty well with photos, still lots of tweaks before it is ready for paint. I've also cut out the stamped side vents in the rear fenders, making them into single-opening ducts. Hope this one is finished & on display at the Birmingham NNL on March 6th. My friends were trying to talk me into building a "Conan" Challenger to go with this one, but I have a 2nd. generation (92-95) Taurus SHO master that I could build & paint green like Conan's favorite car. Who knows?! It could happen...
  23. You know, no I don't always know! This time I did
  24. Great cure, isn't it? Killer model...color, wheels, stance...it's all perfect
