  1. Oh well Harry, better luck next time
  2. One of my favorites: Does this count? This one is stretching the wagon term a little:
  3. If you use a little accelerator on the superglue there is no fogging to begin with. I use superglue/accelerator on nearly every glue joint and haven't had any superglue fog in years.
  4. Very cool
  5. I clearly was misguided with my advice because I showed examples painted in a slightly different shade of gray, therefore I've removed the post entirely. Without the exact color in hand, I cannot offer any competent color advice on the subject.
  6. Here's a picture of last week's model posed beside the real car:
  7. I think if Harry had used the side view it would have been even more of a landslide for "real"...but I knew this one as soon as I saw it. 'Cause I knew where the other one came from
  8. I've given up on 73-75 Grand Am, 77 Can Am, Laguna S3, 71-73 Riviera, '76 Cosworth Vega, '88-'93 Mustang LX 5.0 sedan, '03-'05 Mustang Mach I, 2007 Parnelli Jones Mustang, McLaren F1 road car, Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCX, first generation Scout and Bronco, and a modern-tool 1/25 '70 'cuda.
  9. Flipped negative? Nope! Did you see the license tag on the front bumper? It reads properly. Ferrari makes RHD cars for Asia and the UK markets. Nobody mentioned the triangular black base for the mirror, they mentioned they thought the mirror struts were too long and that the black masking inside the windshield (all around the perimeter, also blocks the base of the rear view mirror) looked too wide. Anyway, there are some correct answers that some have found, and some incorrect answers. Last week started very strong for "real", and then the results flipped, with more people voting "model". I was wondering if that might happen this week. More have voted "model" as the week has gone by, but the majority think it's real.
  10. The HOK line that was sold through hobby shops was the culprit, it's very bad stuff, caused a lot of problems like yours, and was unceremoniously discontinued. HOK paint sold to hobbyists through Black Gold, won't kill your paint jobs, if you use lacquer primer/base/clear. But you are on the right track, by using Tamiya sprays. Their pearl white isn't terribly "pearly", but it might show up better under the clear orange. I've had great results spraying the clear sprays decanted and run through the airbrush for much more control, though I haven't used it to do anything but change the tone of the base color, not as a pure candy. You can mix and match Tamiya sprays w/Testors One Coat lacquer sprays. I think they have a pearl white that has more "punch" (all Testors pearls/metallics in their lacquers have bigger/bolder pearls/metallics) that will probably look great as a base for the clear orange.
  11. I heard that it's back on the market as of sometime last week. Give the suppliers some amount of time to restock, but it being gone was temporary. Other liquid glues have also sometimes disappeared and returned (like Ambroid Pro Weld, it vanished, then returned). It might be that the products were made in batches and when all stock was gone from the supplier, it was dropped. Or it could be something like a labeling issue. But someone who should know said that Tenax returned onto distributor lists last week.
  12. This model is one of the coolest things I've ever seen
  13. Not only a waste, but that it would likely fail to such an extent it would cause Revell to raise prices on everything else...causing us all to pay for that misdeed. I'll have what he's smoking I've heard through the grapevine the RR kit had higher presales numbers/orders than any other new kit in many years. I hope that is true! Now that Revell has to focus on the core of the hobby and not the humorless, "I don't care about accuracy or quality" beancounter purchasing agents of the big box store(s), I hope it pays off for all of us.
  14. Very cool
  15. Because the newer boring reliable cars are too new to need many replacement parts. Trust me, they'll be on the list in a few years. I still see a lot of old Camrys running around. They aren't pretty...but they're still soldiering on. As they don't rust/corrode down south vs. up north we may see more of them here than you would see up there.
  16. Boring cars that are reliable and last forever are the most-stolen; they're valuable for parts. And somewhat invisible during the period of being stolen and being stripped. Ones that have drivetrains that can be used in a lot of the same company's vehicles are also more valuable for the same reasons.
  17. If I lived in MD my rookie status would be long gone
  18. I feel your pain! I want the stock ZR1 as well! And it's new ALMS GT2 C6R counterpart in crime And the new Grand Sport. I'm not greedy, I swear
  19. Harry, it is available. If you have enough $, it's a limited production model of 199 pieces, it's not just a 1-off scratchbuilt. I rather doubt they'll sell 199 of them, probably far fewer. "The model is accompanied by the book "Driving Ambition" written by Doug Nye in conjunction with Ron Dennis and Gordon Murray, telling the whole story from conception to realisation of this iconic car. The book, along with the certificate of authenticity that accompanies each model, will be signed by Gordon Murray . The engine cover can be opened showing off the incredibly intricate detailing on this stunning 1:8 scale model. $4700.00" It's not detailed like a Pocher...doors don't open, I doubt the wheels are steerable...basically a very nice curbside w/a detailed engine compartment (from the top).
  20. It's easy. The person with the biggest (fill in the blank) goes first.
  21. After the 2010 GT500, ZR1, and GT2 C6R... m'kay?
  22. I'm a great driver but got a B on this "test". I did much better than that every time I've taken a written driving test for a real license. I've had one minor speeding ticket in 33 years (and of course the cop couldn't wait to get home to tell his wife that he gave Robert Downie, Jr. a ticket ). The only insurance claims were from being rear ended at a stoplight and for hail damage. Every school zone I've ever seen is marked 25 MPH. Considering the number of officers enforcing this limit locally, I know what I'm talking about. Yes, we can all easily predict down to the exact foot how many feet to drive behind an fire truck...our cars give off an alarm, or we get out with a tape measure, right? What's the difference if I don't know the exact footage to park from a stop sign? This isn't a "driving" test, it's a parking test. I'm sure everyone who parks near a stop sign has, and uses, a tape measure to make sure they aren't parking illegally What's the difference if I don't know the exact percentage of accidents involving alcohol? I don't drink and drive, and I drive defensively against people who can't drive for whatever reason. I see more incidents of idiots weaving and driving erratically while on the phone or texting these days vs. driving drunk. Some of the questions are "questionable" to say the least, at least in some states. It's a lot like Facebook tests...not exactly a barometer of anything really meaningful
  23. I had seen this model before, so instantly I knew the answer. The biggest giveaway for me was the headlights that look a lot less reflective than the real car. The tires are simplified (did Revell make it? ) and the panel lines are far too perfect and uniform. That said, it's a spectacular 1/8 scale model. I'd like the real car or the model I have a Gulf variant in resin that I'm half tempted to build as the LM, but I love the Gulf livery too.
  24. Yep, precisely! Of course they get a lot of crazy demands from people with absolutely no grip on the reality of "business sense". I have no interest in these two models; showrods don't do anything for me, never have, probably never will. I guess I was a bit too late to the scene, and always more interested in factory stock, factory show cars, and customs/street rods that are clean enough to be factory-looking efforts. But if selling these showrods make's 'em the money so that I can hopefully get a 2010+ GT500, ZR1, and maybe a 458 Italia, I'll be plenty happy. And I do like seeing the ones built by the people who do love 'em
  25. The spammer known as cars still hasn't been banned? Jeez Louise I hope nobody clicks on any of the links. You can never be too careful. And you do not want cars to get paid one bloody cent for anyone clicking on his spam links. Seriously.
