International LoneStar kit???
Zoom Zoom replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Supposedly Moebius announced a (hopefully) 1/25 Lonestar at iHobby today. I'm sure there will be more information as more people come back w/show coverage. This is cool! -
Thank you for mentioning that! Yes, it's highly annoying...that photo of the person yelling...that's what all caps looks like from this end! It's usually internet noobs that resort to that.

The ACME NNL Southern Nationals is fast approaching! Hope you can join us for a weekend of model car fun! We start with a field trip at lunch on Friday (the 13th ) at the Smyrna Community Center, we have a hospitality room at the hotel on Friday/Saturday nights. The show is on Saturday. Lots of fun, lots of friends, lots of killer models on display, and some amazing new models will be debuted by some of the country's best modelers. Gregg will be here on the mainland to have fun and cover the show for MCM Vendor tables have been sold out for over a month...a great collection of vendors with new kits, aftermarket goodies, and closet-clean outs of vintage stuff...bring lots of spending $$ ACME NNL Flyer

The upcoming ACME NNL Southern Nationals (November 14) will have a special display in memory of Lee Baker. If you bought any of Lee's built models or have built an antique/classic in a replica stock style that was similar to Lee's, please bring them to the NNL to display. The members of CARS (Chattanooga Auto Replicas in Scale) are sponsoring the "Lee Baker Memorial Award" and will be choosing the model that they feel best represents what Lee would have enjoyed seeing or building. A special thanks in advance for those who can participate in this display to remember Lee, who passed away in March of this year. ACME NNL Flyer

Thanks...and ditto The AMT Phantom Vickie has a modern "cool factor" missing from Revell's more traditional '32's. I like 'em all, but I love the modern take that AMT's kit has, and would love to see AMT take the kit further, since Revell seems to be taking a more traditional approach to their '32's.

Perhaps your input was well-meaning, but added with bold text and a photo of your model it comes across as "mine is better than yours"...

I LOVE MODEL CARS
Zoom Zoom replied to von Zipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh...I see what you did there I wonder how many others might notice? Hint: I've thought about doing the same sort of weathering/rust on a Corvette -
Very nice, John. It looks flawless, nice take on the new Revell kit.

I'm not sure what software he used, there are a number of programs that people can use to design. I found out this AM that the wheel master was printed out in wax, a process that took 7 hours for the RP machine to build up. He says the quality of the part is superior to what he's had printed in other RP methods. Won't be long before we'll be able to do the printing right on our workbenches. The wheels will be 100% resin, and they will likely be sold as a package with a set of soft black resin tires.

Wire wheels needed!

I'm in the same boat...maybe someday. At least I live close by so the tutorial can be in person. -
Nice work I expect to see it in person next month

Wire wheels needed!

I'm lucky to live 10 mins. from Ettore (aka Pico Elgin). He (and Bill Cunningham) makes the wire wheels look easy. They aren't...but this tutorial helps. The results are definitely worth the effort, if you have a lathe and micro drills...and a lot of time. -
Ever since the 599 GTB kits came out from Revell & Fujimi, many fans have been disappointed that neither company modeled the optional 20" BBS Challenge wheels; especially cruel since the standard "pentagram" wheels are not deemed very attractive by anyone. Scale Production has stepped up and answered our request...through 3D design & rapid prototyping they'll be making the Challenge style wheels that will fit the modern Ferrari kits They sent me the photo today, and I'm very pleased to see them. Looks great, and he's going to adjust the offset for the rear wheels to match the slightly different front to rear offset seen on the 1:1 cars.

It's my club's show, so I think I'll be there It's the biggest model car show in the southeast; we've been known to have over 700 models a couple of times...usually it's between 450-600. Our vendor tables have been sold out since mid-September. Gregg will be there photographing for Model Cars & Jim will be there photographing for Scale Auto. You'll get to meet some of the best modelers in the hobby and see their work up close. It's a model car show, though there are trucks/dioramas and an occasional "miscellaneous" model. We have a blast putting on the show, and most people that come to the show the first time end up coming back every year. We start on Friday at lunch w/a field trip, have an open hospitality room on both Friday/Saturday nights...lots of time outside of the show itself to get to meet people/bench race/show off projects, have dinner, and enjoy the weekend. We get an incredibly diverse variety of models on display...you never know what to expect. Our themes this year: Speedweeks (anything that's raced at Daytona), Retro in the Metro (retro models), and our internet theme (drag racers). We have great vendors, from Model Roundup to MCW to Slixx to Strada Sports and many more. I believe we'll have a list of vendors on our website shortly. ACME NNL Flyer -
What is with the 50s?

Here is a link to John Sharisky's Fotki album; he has photos/inserts for a lot of Modelhaus stuff: John Sharisky's Fotki Album (Modelhaus) Here is a link to another Fotki album of unbuilt resin models, specifically to show people the kits because often there are no photographs on websites for the kits. jhawksley's Fotki Album of Resin Kits -

Here's an idea; give them a call and ask them why they don't have photos of their kits. They're very nice folks, they'll give you an honest answer. Maybe you could get an invite for a MCM field trip to Decatur and see the operation for yourself, and do an article. I think it would be very educational, for you and the readers -

If it was you and you did that, you'd quickly realize why there is a very good reason for no photos. They run a very tight ship there, the work required to photograph every product would put them out of business in no time. They sell plenty of models to keep busy w/o photographs. Ditto Replicas & Miniatures. For small mom & pop operations, having a professional website with photos of the literally thousands of products they sell would cripple them from a financial and time standpoint. What you are asking for would make it easier to see the product, but at the same time you'd also start seeing a bunch of very annoyed customers on the 'net, mad because they didn't get their orders in a timely basis. I know it may be annoying for those who haven't met them at shows and seen the products, but that's the way it is...they sell enough product that they have no need for a soup-to-nuts website, and there's no guarantee the extra work would generate more sales, and perhaps too many new sales to keep up with. I've seen Modelhaus products up close, they're one of few companies I can blindly rely on to have an excellent product, sight-unseen. I have bought/built many of their models through the years. Smaller outfits with far fewer products have it easier to have photos...even a lot of them don't have much of a web presence. Heck...Revell's website is relatively worthless for getting good photos/information for their models. -
Looks very nice with those Camaro wheels! Ferrari will do so much customization that the red/red combo is likely something you can buy on the real car and it does look good. I've seen some really hideous white/red interior schemes on Ferraris that are incredibly tacky. I built my Scag as a custom w/a Viper hood, never bothered to check to see if the stock hood fit. I have a second kit to build in more of a stock configuration...I might steal the Camaro wheel idea if I can't find something else suitable.

Laverda sidecar
Zoom Zoom replied to B_A_R's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
Interesting design/execution, but I have to question how hideous it must look from the passenger/sidecar side, as there are no photographs of it from that angle. -
I missed that part, what happened to them?
