  1. 103F in the corner of the shop I'm finishing my part of the '66 Chevelle in. No windows, no ventilation, just my own fans to move the hot air around. Said to H. with it at 3PM, went for a 2.5 mile hike. Only 98 in the sun, 94 in the shade. Pain in my hip joints subsided after 20 minutes with no pain killer. Drank a quart canteen of water, it was just barely enough, got a mess of vitamin D, kinda stiff right now but healthier than when I started. And boy, do I STINK. EDIT: Good thing I fixed my shower water heater.
  2. For me, if a 1/25 scale or larger car model doesn't have a reasonable representation of the greasy bits, it's only half a model. I was quite disappointed that the Revell (dumbguy edit) AMT new Bronco, while providing an opening hood, has nothing under it. I've been known to build some original-design "curbsides" or "slammers" as styling models only, but part of the challenge of designing a vehicle is the combination of function and aesthetics, engineering and art. One without the other, as far as machines go, is, to me, missing the point entirely.
  3. Sorry...missed the "T". Now I see it.
  4. Same reason all people have brains but most people don't use them?
  5. I currently have 26 items coming from all over the country, all scheduled for delivery this week. We'll see... EDIT: The shipment that diverted to Arizona on its way from North Carolina to Georgia did finally arrive here, so there's that...
  6. Cool stuff. I particularly like the '63 "Belmon" (?), and might borrow some of your styling elements to do an actual build...if you have no objection. The Mercury-like reverse slant of the rear window, the matching angle of the upswept tail, the long sweeping side spear, and the later-model or Chrysler Corp.-style windshield combine well.
  7. "Injuns" is a word that can get you disciplined on some sites.
  8. Exactly. Google was a wonderful tool early on. Now it's dogma-and-ad-driven G A R B A G E.
  9. Ever since I first encountered amber signal lamps on the rear of vehicles in Europe, I've preferred them. Vastly.
  10. Yes. Which is the same process, essentially, as building a real car (not the factory, but building customs, rods, restorations, etc.)
  11. Andretti Indoor Karting and Games has a place located between the two shops I work with.
  12. "Facsimile" pronounced as "fack smile" says something special about the speaker.
  13. Still a thing, particularly in certain urban areas, and now called "jugging" by interdwerbs who think they invented everything. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/jugging
  14. Fixed my propane-fired point-of-use tankless shower-water heater, saved the original ignitor/timer module, so I still have a brandy new one for backup, and saved a few hundred bucks by not having to buy a whole new unit.
  15. Congrats to both of you. Great to hear stories like this. I'd thought I'd spend my life with the girl I loved when I was 19, but things didn't go that way, and none of the others ever measured up. Not even close. There is honestly never a day I don't think about her, and even occasionally dream about her.
  16. Beautiful work...as always.
  17. Face facts, or for more fun, mash your face on the glass and send a face fax.
  18. Term limits for burger flippers have never been discussed on the global stage.
  19. Model cars make me want to go "vroom, vroom!!!"
  20. Surely you've heard about the Deelmaer Water-Engine option? It was killed by the oil companies, and every trace of its existence was removed...except, apparently, for this one set of 1/25 scale valve covers. And if you play the valve cover backwards, it says "eat your dog". Cue X-Files music. Sounds like the subject of one of those special YooToob videos with the computer-voice narration that goes on and on and on and on and on and on with a nonsensical "secret" story and random photos that don't go with anything.
  21. First month I spent in my place in Az., the AC didn't work. 112-115 in the daytime, 80s late at night. I don't know about you, but low 80s is pretty comfortable to me if the humidity is low. Anyway, I rigged a couple of big cheap box fans to blow OUT windows in one end of the house, opened windows at the other end so cool evening air could come in. The house is, fortunately, pretty well insulated, so closing it up first thing in the AM trapped the nice coolness most of the day, and it didn't start getting kinda uncomfortable until late in the afternoon. Just a thought...
  22. FOLLOW UP: My VERY competent regular driver tracked down the missing shipment and brought it to my door. It seems every day he's off, my packages go astray. So I asked him about it. His answer: "It's just what I have to do sometimes, but it's not the same job anymore, and nobody wants to do it. We have to work with what we can hire."
  23. Oh man...that is beautiful. Anyone who doesn't get why this was THE golden era of F1 is just blind. I thought I was pretty much done buying car models, but I HAVE to have one of those.
