  1. Mouth disposal of snot balls is something I could just never understand.
  2. "Booger" was the nickname of a guy I worked with a long time ago, 'cause he usually had at least one finger up his nose.
  3. Oy mate. Ya kin buy beef tongue in the deli, already prepped. Pretty mainstream as edibles go. Witchetty grubs on the other hand...
  4. Many years ago I went to dinner at a Hispanic co-worker's home. Menudo was served (cow stomach...tripe...soup). They all kinda wondered how I'd take to it. Having had tripe-based soups from several other cultures, I recognized exactly what it was and liked it just fine. Honestly I'm not wild about the texture, but once you get past what part of the cow it is, it's pretty tasty.
  5. Imagine being the first guy who ate a lobster. All his buds looked at it and said "ewwwwwwwww...yuck...giant sea bug". And he smiled and said "cool; more for me."
  6. Snuck out of the shop after lunch (OK since I'm pretty much self-employed) and went for a 2-hour hike in the skin-searing end-of-the-world 97-deg F heat. OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! Somehow I didn't die. And it feels nice and cool in my un-airconed 82-deg house now...which I'll have down to 72 by sunrise after I run the whole-house exhaust fan all night to pull in cool outside air. I wonder how many of the folks tearing their hair out and gluing themselves to things in protest about "climate change" actually DO as much about conserving energy (and thereby reducing carbon emissions) as I do. It's cheap too. To run the AC in my last place cost $400-$600 per month before I implemented a few simple changes. But my monthly power bill in summer the way I live now is only $50. EDIT: And the system I use is hardly optimised. With a little effort, I could get it a LOT cooler in here for not much money at all.
  7. "Said the spider to the fly" is part of an old children's rhyme boomer geezers might remember.
  8. Hiding is not always an effective survival strategy, but cockroaches haven't figured that out yet.
  9. Definitely cool. Hmmmm...
  10. I disagree. I collect particular paper magazines because much of the info I want has never made it to the interdwerbs. Not everything has, you know. And much of what IS there from the distant past (like the '60s) is so abridged and/or dumbed down as to be useless.
  11. Development of life skills is no longer a requisite if you look at where we're heading.
  12. It wouldn't even take all that. A civilization that's entirely dependent on relatively vulnerable technology is just a few pull-the-plug events away from being no civilization at all.
  13. And the last generation that can cook a meal, change a flat tire, plant a garden, tell time on a round clock, find anywhere on a map, do much of anything without an app, knows much of what used to be considered "common knowledge" (including non-revisionist history), or say "thank you". Brave New World indeed.
  14. "Boss" is usually the "lady of the house", as evidenced by the common refrain "happy wife, happy life".
  15. "Deliriousness" is the semi-bogus version of "delirium", ranking with words like "comfortability" instead of "comfort", and "fidel" instead of "faithful".
  16. "Fond of highly spiced food" is rarely discriptive of 5-year-olds.
  17. Fishmonger's smell is a little fishy for some odd reason.
  18. Sun exposure is really good for you in moderation, but much of the populace today look like white things that live under rocks because of misleading fear-mongering info everywhere.
  19. Lately, I find staying hydrated throughout the course of the day...drinking a minimum of 1/2 pint of water every hour whether I'm thirsty or not...is all it takes to function effectively in sustained 100+ F temperatures.
  20. They seem to deal with it just fine...the way people would if they behaved as rationally as cats. They're active in the cooler hours, find shady places to sleep through the hottest hours, drink a lot of water, and eat less.
  21. Rods and customs and prototypes and sportscars and road-racers have been significant parts of my interests.
  22. Heat index was under 100 F today for the first time in a while (about 38 C), so working in the un-airconditioned shops was a little more pleasant than it's been lately. Low tonight will be 69 F. Positively chilly. Windows are open, exhaust fan is on, and it's already quite nice in here though it's still 77 F outside. I'll sleep like a stone.
  23. Popular it is because of its small physical size and light weight for its displacement, its high-revving ability, and its high specific output as far back as 1955 when it was introduced; for all the hoopla the LS family gets, it really isn't that much of an improvement other than its cylinder heads, with combustion chambers and ports all being identical on each successive version...and it even retains the bore spacing and bellhousing compatibility with its ancient "smallblock" predecessor.
