I had a very productive week in one shop, so I decided to take the day off. Got to the woods early in the cool, hiked at least 4 miles. Then went to HobbyTown on the way home, bought a couple of recent production 1/25 truck kits. And then I stopped at a big indoor flea/antique market and found a bunch of vintage HO-scale model train kits (the ones that take effort and skill) for CHEAP. Fixing to have a braunschweiger and Swiss sandwich on crusty rye, with big fat juicy heirloom tomato slices. Best Saturday I've had in a long, long time.

Is this common?

If only there was a phone app for turn signals. You could work them while texting and never take your eyes off the screen. -

Yup. It works very well for some kinds of competition. But I've never found it to be a problem on the street. I've been driving my recently acquired slushbox Blazer a lot recently, and left-foot-braking is as natural to me as driving anything with a stick. EDIT: I don't mean to sound like I'm all-so-hot-stuff. I'm just stating fact. -

What camera to use.

I took these shots with a 4-megapixel 18-year-old Nikon that can be found used for around $20. It has 3X (called "power", not "times" like everyone says) optical zoom. I used a tripod I got at a thrift store for $15. The Nikon photo editing suite for a computer is free. -

I like 'em all too...and Irish, bourbon, rye, vodka, gin, tequila... I pretty much never met a drink I didn't like including saki and grappa. Just depends on the mood I'm in, what I'm doing, who I'm with, or what the meal is. Oban 14 is my current favorite at home after-work one-and-done.

Why is my paint job dusty?
Ace-Garageguy replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sounds like "dry spray". Possible causes: 1) Insufficient thinning; 2) air pressure too high; 3) shot from too far away; 4) paint passes too fast; 5) excessively hot air temp with very low humidity; 6) any or all of the above in combination -

What Did You Have for Dinner?
Ace-Garageguy replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Mixed greens and tomato salad. Need to lose a little more winter lard and salad as my evening meal is filling and helps me shed the poundage. -
The thing most noobs don't understand about color-sanding and polishing is that it's work. The purpose of each successive grit (once the orange peel has been flattened) is to remove the fine sanding scratches left by the previous grit. You really need to understand this and LOOK at what you're doing (under magnification if your eyes aren't perfect), drying your freshly sanded area to see what you've done. You should also change your sanding water and wash your hands and whatever container you're using between each successive grit, so that abrasive particles dislodged from the last step don't scratch the next one. I personally prefer this design of sanding pads, made by Micro-Mesh and others. Then...the purpose of "polish" is to remove the extremely fine scratches left by the final sanding. A 12,000-grit-sanded surface will be quite shiny, as Tom says, but a very slight haze will remain...from the tiny sanding scratches. "Polish" is an abrasive, and just wiping the stuff on, rubbing it a little, and wiping it off accomplishes nothing. You'll get the feel of how much pressure to exert and how long you need to do it as you gain more experience. Modelers here often complain that they can never get the full gloss, that the paint remains hazy. And the only reason for that (assuming you painted the thing right) is that not enough effort was put into getting where you want to go.
