Your skills are just as good as I've seen on here Jonathan, looks great to me ! Bet your Dad was well pleased with this, tell him he's got a lovely car too ! Looking forward to more of your builds now !

After hassle with photobucket I think its ok again, so a sneek peek update ! Weathers too cold for painting so I started on one of my favourite bits, interior. Now I know some of you don't like lowriders, so a fur and mirror tiled interior wont be popular, but hey, I love em ! Heres the front seats, although I may redo these soon to get the buttons more straight, bottom parts in yellow are deep buttoned too, but don't show up in the pics? ......

That works really well, one of those 'why didn't I think of that' type models, simple idea but it looks great ! Love those wheels n tyres, where are they from ??
-
Ahh! Very clever, they look great thanks for sharing the tip !

Way cool !! How did u do the connections on the front rams ?? I'm still working on my interior, but can't post pics cos photo bucket keeps crashing or throwing up adverts....

As someone else mentioned, we can learn just as much watching people mess up paint jobs, as we can watching someone get it right first time ! The biggest problem I have with lowrider paint jobs is designing something I'm truly happy with, and then its trying to paint what you can picture in your head ! Keep going Lloyd were all learning with you here, ain't no shame in getting it wrong, its how the best painters become the best by trial and error....

Man thats a cool paint job ! Clever idea masking up again with BMF, must have taken you ages but well worth the effort ! Love that gold leaf, how do you lay that down without it snapping ?? You know I'm a fan of your work Eric, looking forward to more 'show cars' from you....- 172 replies

Thanks Chris and Lloyd, i look forward to seeing both your 64s take shape ! Quick confession, i messed up a little ! Take a look at the hinges picture above, the top hinge hits the dashboard ! After moving it twice, then trying suicide doors, i gave up. Simple bent bars will hold the door open permanately, i will post pics when its done... Good news is, the hinge didnt fit because im scratch building the dash, seats, head liner, door panels and carpet. And the boot set-up too ! Lets just say Ive got a pile of felt, chrome card, and some big ideas ! ! So the interior has been basically smoothed, arm rests, handles etc, and i made up panels to create the inside of the boot. Smoothed some lumps off the floor etc, oh and cut the door panel wider, see the pics it makes more sense..... more soon.....

Well I LOVE the wheels, and the LOWRIDER style ! Great job on this, nice paint job too ! Now get yourself another lowrider model and come join the CBP ! Be great to have you there !

Really nice build of a very beautiful car ! Personally I'm glad to see these kind of models built, how much more enjoyment you got from actually building it. Leaving it untouched in the box is like owning a Ferrari and never driving it...

Thanks for the replys guys ! Lloyd, if you want to cut the door out on these, be very careful !!! The quarter window is very delicate, I was lucky to have a spare body to hack up. Also notice in the pic above the open door doesn't match up with the interior ! Rear part is OK but the front of the doorcard is too short, the door line on the interior should be further forward. Not putting you off, if your careful it should be fine.

Thanks for the replys guys, and thanks Lloyd ive ordered some Pegasus rims, they are on their way ! Cut the interior panel out for the open door, and made a simple hinge for it. Where the hinge is attached to the body, the hinge support is straight and the body curved, so i made a flush fitting panel to help support the hinge. See pics to explain !

Lloyd, for your first true lowrider, what's better than a 64 Impala ! I didn't want to fill this thread up with pics of just my build, so Ive started a WIP for my 64 'on the workbench'... It explains about the door and hopefully a few handy tips for building these rides ! Look forward to seeing yours take shape, I finally got my pegasus rims on order too.

Coming along really well, the mock up looks as hard as nails ! Keep it up I'm following this one !

Yes, er, Fantastic work again Chris ! Unbelievable amount of detail, cant wait to see more ! ! -
Yes they will be hinged, thanks Dave, although im deciding if im going to add a flip front, and possibly a suicide door ?? Leave it like this for now, next up is the inside door surrounds !
-
Heres progress on mine......
-
Thanks Dave, you jumped in as i was just updating it a bit more ! ! The door was cut from a warped shell i had spare, and the door hole cut out from my good shell ! Marking the door line with a sharpie pen makes it easier to see. The boot also has a sharp edge just above the badge, which i smoothed, look out for this if you build one ! And heres a mock up, taped in place ! Im using the Revell wheels here, but might buy some Pegasus wheels if i can find scale 13" ones. ( Revells wire wheels are nice but scale out to about 15" )

I know this WIP features in the Lowrider CBP but i didnt want to fill that up with my pics, and i can go into more detail here so... I wanted to start on the main bodywork, make a few changes then get it in colour, before adding the chassis and running gear etc. So i cut the front inner fenders away, cut out all the lumps and bumps from the firewall and made a plastic template to cover it ........ Smooth firewall and another 2 panels to cover the lower half were added. This was smoothed in, and the floorpan cleaned up. (sorry, sideways pic !)

Great job, with a Camaro there's no need to alter it, its a beautiful car straight from the factory !
-
Really like what you done so far, its certainly a great kit with lots of potential ! Love that blue on the bodywork, it really glows !
-
Loving this Andy, you and Eric build some great cars ! Personally I liked it without the flares with the wheels just tucked under the arches, but hey its yours so don't listen to me just build it how you like, I'm sure its going to look fine ! Look forward to more on this, great project ! !
-
Hey I never seen a KG lowrider before, great idea ! Wheels look good with that colour too, look forward to more on this... Its freezing in the UK so I can't spray the 64 yet, but I will get some progress up soon !!
-
Lloyd, im sure it would be fine to join in, Im glad to see more people entering this CBP ! Chris, looks like you've got plans for the 64, I really hope you get some spare time to make progress on it !
