Could I suggest one of three ways to address the character line issue. The first would be to add an extra line of moulding under the body moulding and carry that back to the C pillar. Then cut it upwards where the existing moulding ends. Maybe too fussy? If so, how about simply removing the moulding from the Packard hood? Or raise it to match where the moulding ends at the cowl?

Simple, and it seems to work seamlessly in there. I'm impressed.

Yup. This is your car I bet...or one very similar to it.

1/24 Monogram '30 Ford Model A 5-window Coupe
Eric Macleod replied to Bernard Kron's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I would certainly be up for the stock version of this one, particularly the convertible Cabriolet. -
And what if the gas tank was under the front seat instead of inside the trunk. The shut off valve would be a get out and get under thing. Does that sound like his car?
-
I am suspecting the car may be like this instead. It fits a bit more of your description. Its pretty close to the car you described. In this case its a 25 Model T Coupe.
-
Today I did some work on the windshield frame. This will be critical to the fit of the convertible top. I am going to use a peice modified from the Johan Cadillac V-16 Cabriolet.

That last Packard sedan in black, silver and red is outstanding, though I like the Lincoln as well.

This morning I went over the whole car with 1000 grit sandpaper and gave it a good wet sanding. I continued with fitting the top and did some small refinements of the front clip. Finally, I epoxied the hood louvers in place. I have a long way to go but feel good about my progress so far.

This looks great. I will be interested in watching your progress.

I think that would look great. I used to have a 1:1 Lincoln convertible in just about the exact same color green, in and out. It definitely needed more contrast so I think you are making a good choice.

It does "pop" quite a bit more doesn't it? Before I finish it, I may try a set of red wires on one side and chrome on the other to compare the appearance. While that wouldn't be 100% authentic to the car I am replicating, the chrome wheels might cut a good compromise between "Blondie" and the Saddler car.

Monogram Ferrari GTO 1/24 Scale the 5 year build

Glad to offer you some support! If it makes you feel any better, my Cord is a 36 year long project right now! Never. Give. Up. -
Monogram Ferrari GTO 1/24 Scale the 5 year build

I too have had some problems with some Tamiya paint lately. Most people (including me) see Tamiya as the gold standard of model paint but the crazing and orange peel looks very similar to a Model T I was working on for a while. I had exactly the same result you have had....I abandoned the build for a while. Maybe when (if?) I get my L-29 done I will get back on the Model T. Believe me, I feel your pain and have considered exactly the same course of action you have taken-buy a different kit and start over from scratch. I admire your tenacity here! -

Great idea!

Today i did some sanding and began working on the fit of the convertible top. The top is a large and essential part of the overall look of a Cord L-29 so it really needs to be right. I am also facing a bit of a dilemma. From day one my plan was to build a replica of a local car, done in silver over blue, with red wire wheels. It's a visual knockout though I have always wondered about the silver color from an authenticity perspective. In researching the L-29 details I came across Blondie, a very authentic L-29 in cream with dark tan hides. I almost have myself convinced that I like it better. If I can post photos of the two cars I will and please tell me what you think.

This will be good. Dual rear spares is a seriously classy look.this car will look 3 miles long. I like it.

Very interesting project you have here. I will look forward to seeing the next couple steps. -
I agree with the others. This will be a beautiful model of a great car.

I just recieved an invitation to have dinner with the founder of Automodello, who was instrumental in mu procurement of the distressed L-29s. So now the pressure is on. I have to demonstrate that I got something done with them. Ideally, I want to show him a finished model. So, here it is with the guide coat sanded off and another round of putty on. If I say so myself, it's starting to look like a Cord. Clearly there is more to do on the front passenger fender but tge others are getting pretty close.
-
Splendid display. I liked the car quite a lot, but like it in the diorama even better!
-
I agree 100%. I would like to devote more time to work like this...if life will allow it. I guess I can live vicariously through your models.

Great idea. Same for the fenders. Seriously, this is one of the most interesting things i've seen posted here in a while.
