  1. My final eBay purchase from last week. An original issue SMP 1958 Impala convertible. This one gives me all 6 of the 1958 annuals ,,,and all in convertibles. Not an easy thing to do I might add.. All in all, I cant complain what I have paid out for them,,,especially what I've seen the Pontiac and the Buick sell for . The most expensive one was the Edsel ,,,But its also easily the best condition out of the 6 kits ( edit text and picture - I forgot about the 1958 Imperial )
  2. Keep in mind, once you start , don't lift the blade until your at the end of where you want to be. ps, love the finish
  3. We think alike. Being a Mopar guy myself. I would love to see more ,,especially the late 50s to early 60s full size cars . Just think , we just in recent years finally got the 55 thru 57 Chrysler 300s, I would love to see that continue, especially a 1960 or ,,,even better a 1961 300 letter car. How about a 1957 or 58 Desoto Firesweep convertible , I'll even take a 59 if the modeling gods want to make it happen
  4. I was wondering about that as well. it would give you rear wheel , engine and driver location all pretty close as is . Just scratchbuild the front section. On a side note, anyone know anything about the Ford pickup in the film? Little bit I've been able to gather it was a a black 1970 Ford F250 . When I do this, I want to do the car, truck and trailer. The AMT clear trailer is a pretty good match for one used back then ( sorry to take the thread of course )
  5. One of the best looking builds of this car I've ever seen. Easily one of my all time favorite cars. I actually just received a copy of the movie a few weeks ago and watched it for the 1s time in a long time I Have a few chassis pics of this car without the body on or the engine in I can post if you want. On the body , other than the wheel openings moved forward , its basically stock from the wind shield forward On the 1/1 the roof line was altered to clear the driver and powered train . The biggest difference was the rear deck lid was extended pretty good compared to a stock cuda. I've had one of the Comp resin bodies in my hand to do this car, and it to had the sunken hood and I couldn't get past that. So my plan is make my own . I've collected several of the AMT snap kits to cut up when the time comes. As this car has been WAAAAAAY up on my want to do list for several years. I have been told to take the Piranha chassis and combine it with the rear engine El Camino chassis will get you pretty close , any thoughts ?
  6. I plan to , when i get back t it . The chassis a little long , I just cut it right behind the torsion bar cross member and shortend it. I think I narrowed it a bit behind the rear wheels. I also removed the molded in wheel tubs. Its an easy mods and near drop in to really upgrade the kit Any good Mopar guy knows exactly what car this is going to be
  7. Isn't the Monogram kit the only game in town for a 58 Bird ? I think the 1st AMT Bird was a 1959
  8. Thanks all. Its been on my to do list for a few years. I finally drug it out a finished it. And am supper happy I did. Its one of my favorite display pieces.
  9. I modified a Revell 69 Dart chassis for mine.
  10. No. The 1963 Max Wedge cars had the exact same interior as a non max wedge . ( same goes for 1962 model as well ) The forthcoming 1965 Belvedere 1 interior is actually only correct for a 1965 Hemi car, aka A990 pkg. Which tells me there are multiple versions of this kit on the way ,,Besides the announced Melrose Missle version ( for the record ,,there was no Max wedge option avail in 1965 )
  11. A near perfect example of a clean builtup Johan 1959 Fury kit .Everything to build it box stock is included. I've been trying to get one for the past year. And I finally decided if I was gonna win ,,,i had to up my budget.
  12. Did the kit ever have the decals to replicate the movie car. ?
  13. I've got a vacuum formed W30 hood ,,no idea where I got it though . I might be able to be talked out of it If ,,,,,,I can find it I'll snap off a couple pics later today ,,I think its in the box with my Johan 442 kit . But I haven't opened that kit in some time
  14. I like this a bunch. He always had some pretty cool looking floppers
  15. Interesting, Kind of has a Figoni or Talbert Lago look to it
  16. Mark, You may have done it before. But send me a list of your needs. I don't have a lot of pieces or parts kits for the early annuals stuff. But you might get lucky
  17. A decent Johan 1960 Plymouth Fury builtup
  18. I agree with you,,,to a point. I know someone who worked high up at Walmart . And its not good. They would force suppliers to constantly lower there wholesale price , to allow Walmart to sell at said product in order to undercut there competion. Then once competition was eliminated they would raise prices, slowly but surely . I wonder how much todays Walmart compares to the Walmart Sam Walton had envisioned. Home Depot, Loews , Tractor supply , they're all basically the same with a different name over the door I sure wish the small local owner hardware store was down the street. They're use to be a family owned shop right up the street from me,,,been there since the late 1800's . At least up till Home Depot and tractor supply moved in. I can assure you ,,the service is no where near the same. Maybe I 'm the odd duck,I prefer to buy on quality and service during and after the sale ,,,,much quicker than the up front price. We needed to buy a new dishwasher last fall. After hitting all the usual suspects. I decided to try my local family owned place . Sure enough he had the exact same model BestBuy had ,,actually had it in stock and $40 cheaper
  19. Same here, although I was born in 1959. I started building models in the mid to late 60s. But then it was hot rods and customs. Stock was boring . I gravitated to funnycars in the later 70s and early 80s I didn't get into the OE replica stock stuff till I was well into my late 20s or early 30s when I got back into kits . When I had kids the models were basically put away for another day. tinkering just a bit every once in a while. I didn't start looking for early annuals OE stock stuff till the past couple of years. Since then I have been on a buying binge trying to fill my want list. Which I almost have completed.,,,,, I'm down to maybe 3 or 4 kits I don't have . And 90% of what I've bought came from Ebay sellers all over the country . So Ebay has been good to me,,,very bad for my wallet. But hey, we only live once so might as well enjoy it . Its real easy to over pay for something listed there, But if your patient you can get some pretty decent deals . I have a max budget for any one kit I am looking for. Obviously some are worth more than others but none are worth getting stupid over. As a general rule. When something brings top dollar,, give it a it a week or 2 and I guarantee there will be another one listed and it rarely brings what the 1st one did .
  20. I have been buying sheets straight from the manufacturer. And I keep it in the original envelope, either standing on its side on a shelf, or hanging from the wall . Never laying flat where something can get layed on it . Thats my thought,,,,,I don't do any BMF work for days/weeks sometimes months after laying paint down .( in some cases ,years buts that's another story )
  21. As far as doing window openings or even side trim for that matter. Study the 1/1 . As a rule window trim is 3, sometimes 4 pieces. I do the BMF the same as the 1/1 . And I try to get my seams in the same place as the 1/1 On a B body Mopar as an example. The rear window trim is 4 pieces. Each side extends up and turns and goes half way across the top . So there is a seam in the middle halfway across the top . The lower trim is also 2 pieces with a seam in the middle . So in theory, there will be 4 seams. one on the top dead center, same for the lower . Then there will be a seam in the lower outside corner on each side
  22. Holy cow thats a lot of yellow. But I like it .
  23. Meh, I like the one where he was blasting around San Francisco much better. Although the scenery in this one was top shelf
