Amen, And its the primary reason I avoid Walmart like the plague

Not to bad considering this time yesterday this kit was bare plastic. Only thing done prior to yesterday morning was the chassis and interior tub were painted black Built box stock . The engine in the kit isnt accurate anyway ( the actual car has a 273 ) So the hood was glued shut and I made it a curbside build. I painted the entire body gold, then the nose was painted with Tamiya pure white followed by a light coat of Testors white lightning to give it a pearl effect . The rear end of the body was done in a dark metallic red. Then most of the body as fogged with Testors clear red to get the candy apple look to it. Topped off wth Testors wet look clear. Very simple kit to do and REALLY looks killer in person . Pictures really dont show the candy affect to it very well

I know the car/kit very well. And have had one or 2 over the years. At one time I had all 5 of the Cartoon box Johan Plymouth kits. But when a collector offered to buy them all l I couldnt say no. And out of the 5 the 1969 GTX is the one I wouldnt mind having back as an unbuilt if the price was right I still have a bunch of the funnycar stuff from one , just not the kit or the box . I do have a decent builtup of both original issue 69 and 70 Roadrunners Enjoy it , I sure would. Bill

He's been trying to sell that box and parts for a while now,,,,,,,. I've seen buildups with the box sell for about what he wants just for the scraps IMO, its one of the harder Johan kits to find. Although I think the Johan 1970 Roadrunner is harder to find and usually brings more money. I had an unbuilt maybe 10 years ago and like a fool sold it . I've been looking for a decent builder for the past year or two,,,,, and have been unable to get one in my budget

yayyyyy, it worked. Its Testors clear red over everything but the white The gold starts right about the ft edge of the wheel opening and goes across the hood then blends just over the ft edge of the door. These outside pics really bleach out the colors. But it looks killer in person . Its on the shelf for a few days to air out. The I'll install the door decals, and one or maybe 2 more coats of Testors wet look clear . Then its final assembly.

the Brigg's '70 Chevelle LS6 convertible-model?

l car, I NEED to do this one . -
Thanks all, This build was always at the top of my to do list after seeing an interior video of Dave Strickler thrashing the daylights out of this car during a pass back in the day. This was my ultimate insperation. and the view of car I wanted to replicate. I think him and Strickler both were GM guys, at least up till about 1963 ,,,,,,But to win sometimes you have to join. And at the time the Hemi ruled the roost . Within a few years,,,they were both back in GM products

Seriously !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You made that? Thats it ,,,,,,, all my stuff goes in the trash. -
My ultimate goal is replicate the car as it appeared in the movie. Not as its restored today.

Another long ago started project. I wanted to build this kit when it was re-issued a few years back. I started it,,,getting the interior and chassis done ( the engine isn't accurate anyway so I decided to make it a curbside and glue the hood shut) Figuring I would need to use an a air brush to achieve the exterior fade paint work,,,, I shelved it . But when I stumbled onto an article about the car a few weeks ago. I dug it back out to try an idea I had . The actual car was pearl white in the front, followed by the gold,, then candy tangerine that all fades back to what the article states was almost a deep maroon color. Using a box trimmed to just barely cover the body. I used rattle cans . The whole body was painted gold,,,I placed my box / mask over it covering the body up to about halfway up the hood ,,,then the Front end was painted Tamiya pure white with a light coat of Testors white lightning. Then turned it around then a fog coat of Testors metallic red on the back end. Plan is cover the body up to about mid door in Testors Candy red , then clear the whole thing . I've got my fingers crossed it works .

Well, after a paint issue with the hood maybe 3 years ago,,. I lost interest in it and put it away. My resolution this year was finish a lot of stalled projects before starting anything new. This is one of them. Lindberg Ramchargers kit with the AMT 1968 Roadrunner kit giving up its drive-train ( the actual car was a 4 speed but the kit is an auto ) The front spindles were flipped to get the nose out of the weeds. I dont get into a lot of superdetailing , just a MAD supplied pre-wired distributor. I made some header extensions to replicate the 1/1 . Also made a single pot master cylinder to look more like a 1964 should. Decals I think might be Fred Cady ( not 100% sure though) The black wiring underhood was done with a sharpie,,I also drug the sharpie around the window frames to replicate the weatherstripping but you can barely even tell its there. I'm not real happy with the look of the carburetors,,but I looked thru my parts stash and found nothing I liked better. So they'll have to do till I come up with something better Hope you like it,,I sure do . And its another one in the case. ( But looking at these pics I see i forgot to added the headlight lenses and the DODGE emblem decals to the quarter panels. )

I almost put a bid on that car. I have the convertible and and the 60 Buick is one I wouldn't mind having as a hardtop as well . I know a guy who used to have one and that car just looked neat . But they were others listed I wanted more , so I backed off of it ( lucky you I guess ) . I did win the other 3 that I was after though ( it was an expensive weekend )

the Brigg's '70 Chevelle LS6 convertible-model?
gtx6970 replied to fiatboy's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I looked at the uptop from the current 1/25th scale 72 Olds 442 kit. and it looks dead on the Chevelle top . I've been told the most accurate body 1970 Chevelle kit is the Revell snap kit which I am pretty sure is also 1/25th scale I would use it , cut the top off of it and use the Olds uptop and chassis from it as well I see the decals ARE avail. I just might have to get me a set for a future project Bill Ps, and btw any one know if that car was a real 454 vert, LS5 or LS6 car by chance -
We need some Tri- Five BOP kits !
gtx6970 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I tend to agree with ya. I look for old annuals and in most cases buying a convertible version of the kit usually tends to be a tad cheaper . if it was avail as such . -

Although I loose interest prior to about the 1958 models,,,,,,, But I might seriously consider one of these . I am guessing a 55 or 56 Oldsmobile ? -
Questions about the Revell '69 Charger
gtx6970 replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I built a 1968 kit maybe 2 years ago . And I don't remember any glaring fit issues . But I do remember the chassis and engine bay fit is tight. I think I glued the firewall to the chassis / interior and getting it all in if I remember right is a battle . I gave the completed build to the the owner of the 1/1 it replicated ( I am restoring the actual car now,,,with a completion date late this spring ) PS, IMO, my one real complaint with the revell kit is the door scallops are no where near accurate compared to the 1/1 . If I do another one for myself I will use an original MPC body with the revell kit as a doner -

I love looking at this kid of detail , and can only imagine the skill it takes to do something like this in such a small scale. Impressive is such and understatement . I have plans to build a couple later on,,,but they will be NO WHERE this level . So My hats off to ya . But keep it coming . I've always enjoyed the GT40 cars ,,even had the opportunity to sit in a real one several years ago. Kind of tough to get in and out of though. And from what I remember the drivers foot well was really narrow . -
Just did a trade with Nathan , aka Bignate . Flawless deal

I've thought about replicating that car,,,just couldn't find decals Be pretty cool in the case next to a Red Alert build -
My latest Ebay find. And original issue AMT 1959 Lincoln convertible. The fender skirts were glued on ,,but I took a chance on it anyway. Mail man dropped it off about an hour ago and I jumped right on it to see if they would come off. Sure enough popped right off with minimal damage to the body. Everything to build it stock is with it,,including the hood ornament is there. All I need to find is one stock hubcap,,,someone had glued a spinner to it and I don't think it can be fixed easily. It even came in it original box . I can now ck one more off the want list.

True, sort of. If all you have is the block, you need the casting numbers found on the side to truely determine what it is/was. The Hemi was introduced mid year 1964 and was RACE Hemi only ( there is a Nascar version as well as a drag race version ) . The 1st year for the street Hemi was 1966
-
About the only thing a 426 street wedge and a 426 Max wedge share ,,is cubic inches . They are very different engines and applications. with the biggest differences be the heads and intake . The intake port on a max wedge is about a half inch longer compared to a street wedge of any size . All max wedge engines have the crossram intake with 2 carbs.Gigantic intake ports combinded with those uniquely shaped exhaust manifolds . All 426 street wdge engines just have a sinlge 4 barrel carb, chrome valve covers and chrome air cleaner ( the currently avail Moebius 65 Satellite depicts a 426 street wedge car )
-
For the max wedge exhaust , use the aforementioned Polar Lights Dodge stuff. For the Race hemi , either find a set from a Johan kit Or wait till the Melrose Missle car hits the shelves
