AMX GT SHOW CAR RESIN KIT
gtx6970 replied to MoonshineAndChrome's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd be interested in hearing more. -
How many builds do you work on at a time?
gtx6970 replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I may have 10 or more started,,,but I have to concentrate on 1 at a time on the bench or none ever get finished. FAR to easy to get sidetracked and open something else to do a mockup on a new idea and the original build gets lost in the shuffle. before long I have 10 kits in various stages. This spring I've been pulling them out ONE at a time and finish ONE at a time till its done. -
Any chance the engine is to high in the chassis? I haven't built the new release yet..... , but I have both an original issue as well as the Model King version done, with no complaints or do I remember any issues along the way . if you need to see anything in particular ,,just ask

Stupid question time
gtx6970 replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's a little food for thought. A 426 Hemi is NOT a true Hemi . Look at the cutaway pic shown. and compare it to a similar view of a 392 Hemi . The 426 piston one side of the piston is taller, and the spark plug isn't dead dead center of the combustion chamber, plus its canted slightly ,,,,,,. On a 392 It's straight up and down and in line with the piston stroke -
Chuck, You ever thought about doing the decals for this car with the colored side panels on it instead of the all red version .( II think theyre a red and orange and yellow maybe ? If u do, I'll take a set.

I like the Dart kit as a doner essentially because it gives me the correct radiator, big block exhaust manifolds and system . Plus the interior floor pan isn't part of the chassis like it is on the duster. ,,,Plus its what I have more of as parts kits . So my opinion may be slightly biased. Neither one will be a drop in , actually I think the Duster chassis itself would be easier,,, Just some trimming at the rear bumper / trunk floor area to fit the barracuda body . regardless of which one you use , I plan to cut the engine compartment out of the doner body and transplant it to the barracuda

MOPAR I prefer Massively Over Powered And Respected thank you very much -
Busy is an understatement. The past 10 days put a hurting on my bank account. After I took that that pic this afternoon ,,It made me think if I need to concentrate on this lineup as to be all 5 finished by the end of 2016 .I was poking around MCW and Scale finishes sites today to ck color choices and see If I need to get on the ball and order paint if needed. I've been thinking either the 58 Edsel or the 58 Ford will be a light yellow exterior with maybe a bronze color interior ,,,not sure which yet The Bonneville is done , I just recently replaced the AMT generic wheels with Modelhaus promo versions,,,,SO much better looking of a car

Model building season is coming to a end
gtx6970 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Spring and summer is old car season for me. As I am in the final stages of a ground up restoration of a clients 1968 Charger RT ,,,it 'should' be done by late spring , So I will be marketing it all summer at different shows in hopes to gain interest in restoration work for next winter. All this is in addition to house and yard repairs, mow grass , kids activities. etc etc We are going to AZ again this summer to visit family ( this time we'll be more serious looking for property to purchase) So my model bench time becomes very limited in spring / summer........ But I do at least try to get a few bodies painted before the cold moves back in -

If you have this many model kits,,,,you might be a hoarder -
My final eBay purchase from last week. An original issue SMP 1958 Impala convertible. This one gives me all 6 of the 1958 annuals ,,,and all in convertibles. Not an easy thing to do I might add.. All in all, I cant complain what I have paid out for them,,,especially what I've seen the Pontiac and the Buick sell for . The most expensive one was the Edsel ,,,But its also easily the best condition out of the 6 kits ( edit text and picture - I forgot about the 1958 Imperial )

Mopar Modeling Subjects
gtx6970 replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We think alike. Being a Mopar guy myself. I would love to see more ,,especially the late 50s to early 60s full size cars . Just think , we just in recent years finally got the 55 thru 57 Chrysler 300s, I would love to see that continue, especially a 1960 or ,,,even better a 1961 300 letter car. How about a 1957 or 58 Desoto Firesweep convertible , I'll even take a 59 if the modeling gods want to make it happen -
I was wondering about that as well. it would give you rear wheel , engine and driver location all pretty close as is . Just scratchbuild the front section. On a side note, anyone know anything about the Ford pickup in the film? Little bit I've been able to gather it was a a black 1970 Ford F250 . When I do this, I want to do the car, truck and trailer. The AMT clear trailer is a pretty good match for one used back then ( sorry to take the thread of course )

imo, yes

One of the best looking builds of this car I've ever seen. Easily one of my all time favorite cars. I actually just received a copy of the movie a few weeks ago and watched it for the 1s time in a long time I Have a few chassis pics of this car without the body on or the engine in I can post if you want. On the body , other than the wheel openings moved forward , its basically stock from the wind shield forward On the 1/1 the roof line was altered to clear the driver and powered train . The biggest difference was the rear deck lid was extended pretty good compared to a stock cuda. I've had one of the Comp resin bodies in my hand to do this car, and it to had the sunken hood and I couldn't get past that. So my plan is make my own . I've collected several of the AMT snap kits to cut up when the time comes. As this car has been WAAAAAAY up on my want to do list for several years. I have been told to take the Piranha chassis and combine it with the rear engine El Camino chassis will get you pretty close , any thoughts ?
-
I plan to , when i get back t it . The chassis a little long , I just cut it right behind the torsion bar cross member and shortend it. I think I narrowed it a bit behind the rear wheels. I also removed the molded in wheel tubs. Its an easy mods and near drop in to really upgrade the kit Any good Mopar guy knows exactly what car this is going to be

Why are so many hunting Max Wedge parts?
gtx6970 replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
No. The 1963 Max Wedge cars had the exact same interior as a non max wedge . ( same goes for 1962 model as well ) The forthcoming 1965 Belvedere 1 interior is actually only correct for a 1965 Hemi car, aka A990 pkg. Which tells me there are multiple versions of this kit on the way ,,Besides the announced Melrose Missle version ( for the record ,,there was no Max wedge option avail in 1965 ) -
A near perfect example of a clean builtup Johan 1959 Fury kit .Everything to build it box stock is included. I've been trying to get one for the past year. And I finally decided if I was gonna win ,,,i had to up my budget.
