American 1:25 scale four door sedan and wagon promos and kits
gtx6970 replied to Junkman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Johan 1959 and 1960 Cadillac were both 4 door AMT/SMP 1959 Oldsmobile was a 4 door( 1960 kit went to a 2 door bodystyle ) Promos , I have no info on. as I avoid any promo prior to about 1963 due to warp issues -
I know Missing Link was doing an early Ford F100. No idea the year or if its even still avail

I have never once sprayed Testors silver of gold and not have it look blotchy or stringy looking. I quit using it for a topcoat on large areas several back. Now its used as an undercoat only.

Harry, 1st, I am not familiar with that procedure. 2nd maybe its my pc, but to me PB is extremely slow to open/oad , if it works at all . I'll use it only as a last resort. I just loaded 2 pics here, took me less than 5 seconds to do them both. Once they've served there purpose and/or the thread dies, I'll delete them to gain board space to load others later on down the road. Again I can upload multiple pics in seconds

I click on the dodad that says - Insert image from URL. All I get is the little swirly thing going around and around, no image no nuttin. And I've tried using Ebay pics,Pics I used to have hosted on my internet providers server or just pics found on the web with the URL of said pic,,,,,same result, that little swirly thing . But yet they work just fine when posted elsewhere. Image linking issues are with this new server for the board. I have a photo bucket account and its a pain to load them there, then HOPE PB works like its supposed to ,,to link them here. I'll load them here and delete them off as needed once its served its purpose, or not at all

I almost hate to say this, but its not that bad . Maybe in a different color it would be good / better. I'm not a flat black kind of guy . But I'd paint it a different color and drive it for a summer. Then right back up for sale in the fall

WOW, I thought the 1st pic was of 2 real cars -
Very, very nice haul. I have both the 59 and 69 Buick convertibles. And the more I look at the 60, the more I think I want a hardtop as well to do some sort of hotrod / cruiser

MOPAR experts-----I could use your input!
gtx6970 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry, I mistook it to use the entire frame ,,which I think would be easier to fab from scratch as opposed to all the changes required to the entire frame to look reasonably close to a C body chassis In regards to the front inner fenders, look at the same in the AMT 1962 Catalina as a starting point maybe ? -
MPC 1970 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible/Pickup (Video Review)
gtx6970 replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
nice review, thanks. I have a 'slight' interest in this kit . I will most likely grab one at some point ,,,,,But I think I'll wait and pick one up with a discount coupon at Hobby Lobby or something. -

gtx6970 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The 57 Chrysler 300 had a full bolt in frame,,,, the C body line in the early to mid/late 60s was a welded in rear frame to integral solid floor pans Something to keep in mind depending how accurate you want to be, the track width is wider on the C body cars compared to the B bodies -
Sweet, I like that one A LOT can I have it??????? lol

Steve, Good deal,,,,,,Glad it made it ok. Looking forward to watch you work your magic on it . I bought it new ,,many many years ago . The chrome has been wrapped in a paper towel almost from the day I got it . I've got 2 more in almost the exact same condition,,plus a couple more with minor issues But I think I got the better end of the deal, a REALLY nice 1960 Oldsmobile hardtops don't exactly grow on trees ,,,and its going to be pretty close to the front of the line when I get back to the bench this fall . I plan to get a couple car bodies painted in the next few weeks. but any sustained model bench time is about to get very limited for me

My exact thoughts. It would have went sailing away long ago if it were mine . Just push thru and forget about it. I am sure the end result will be worth the little bumps along the way -
Project X
gtx6970 replied to W-31's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
I've looked off an on for a while. ( I have the same project on the short list myself ) and cant find an interior pic that I think is from the same time frame as the movie.. And my magazine collection is much earlier than the time frame the movie was made So,,,, I am just go to do it in a black vinyl bench seat and call it good -
The cost of trading kits
gtx6970 replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Trading hasn't really worked all that well for me . I figure by the time I factor in what I have in my kit , plus ad postage to get the one I want . I can just buy the one I want and keep the one I have usually for less than what I'll have it it as a trade. Not trying to sound mean, just I prefer to not loose money if I can avoid it. Older long out of production kits is a different story . I actually just did a trade to get a 1960 Oldsmobile builtup. using an unbuilt Johan 63 Fury as trade material. I certainty think it was a fair deal ( at least I hope the other party is happy with the deal ,,,I know I am ) Parts request is a different story, and I've done a couple parts trades with a few members with good results for both sides. But most of the time if I see a wanted ad for parts, and I have it with no immediate use for it and its not something to hard to replace should I happen need it later on. ,,,,,. I'll just send it with no worries on my end to get anything in return . To me its just most likely collecting dust anyway . -
Modelhaus going, going Gone !!!!!!
gtx6970 replied to WoodyRDC's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Tom, Very well said. But IMO . I think IF someone buys out the rights , tooling and molds it will have to be an established resin caster. Not only are they going to have the costs of materials and supplies,,,they will also have the overhead of buying out said molds . So trying to keep there head above water AND start from scratch to establish a market presence will make for a tough road to travel for someone new in the business . I certainly hope someone picks up the torch and moves forward with it , but I'm not holding my breath that happens either. -
Interested in this one. I plan to move to the Tuscon AZ in the next few years and it would be nice to know whats in the area . We will be in Sahurita area this summer for 2 weeks visiting family. And our plan is take a day and spend it with a realtor to do some looking around . The winters here have gotten to me over the years and I am so done with cold weather
