Thanks. Seems the more i sand on the body to straighten it out...I find more sink marks which means more filler mixed up.

Thanks, I have about every one of the pics there. I 'think' I may have enough pictures and info to replicate this car. Problem is ,,most of them are black and white. SO it leaves some colors up to your imagination.

A new trend selling kit parts?
gtx6970 replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Guess I'm a sucker then... I collect vintage kits, all builders and in some case a few need parts. If not for these sellers I would be stuck with resin IF its even avail at all . Just recently picked up a really REALLY nice 1960 Oldsmobile kit. 99% complete and almost ready to rebuild. The steering wheel was MIA,,,as luck would have it I found one on Ebay for not much more than one avail thru Modelhaus. With Modelhaus closed for the time being for me it was a no brainer. Same seller was also parting out an original issue Johan 1960 Dodge, and I happen to need a rear bumper for mine,,,,, Got that to. So for me ( and I'm sure many others ) Glad to see them do it . Model kits are no different then there 1/1 scale counterpart. Some are more worth more in pieces than they are as a whole. -
I've got a few is all.Bought them all new Both the Danbury and Franklin Mint 1957 Chrysler 300 convertibles The 1957 Dodge Sweptline pickup ( I think its Danbury Mint ? ) Franklin Mint 1970 Hemi Cuda convertible.

A new trend selling kit parts?
gtx6970 replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Been happening for some time. Are they getting rich? not likely. Especially selling pieces form modern kits. I know one of the sellers that parts out vintage kits and he says he does quite well at it -
How did we manage to survive?
gtx6970 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not to mention the cars today are DESIGNED to crumple.....cars of the 50s were not. But to me the cars back then had style and personality. Plus you can tell each and every year apart from the previous and glowing years model . Not so easy today . There are a few people around my area who drive old cars all year round, such as a 1972 Cutlass convertible. 1972 Buick Skylark , there is even an early 50s Chevy truck. I see it pretty much every day ,, year round no matter the weather or road conditions. The old truck still looks pretty decent outside of faded paint. -
Lincoln Futura Interior color
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thats what I was thinking , a medium silver with a very light/thin topcoat. A lot of the early vinyls back then had a pearlessance to them . I keep thinking a metallizer color would/might/maybe work Then with maybe a pearl off white on the steering column ?, decisions, decisions, decisions . Who said model building was easy . But I really want to do this car just once,,,but right . at least as close to right as I can within reason . -
I managed a little modeling time this morning. Once I primed the interior ,,i noticed the moldings in the door panels were almost non existent . So I dug out some .010 x .010 stryene strips and made my own . Once cleaned up and re-primed, they should be much easier to see and foil . Also mixed up some filler to fill all the little sink marks on the body,,,and there were a lot of them .

Lincoln Futura Interior color
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
MCW lists the Lincoln Futura color called silver mink ? Looked it and Ice blue pearl up on TCB Globals website. Silver mink might be ok for the seats, but definitely not for the exterior. Cant find any color chips for the Ice Blue . I've decided to just spray it Tamiya pure white with a testors white lightening over coat and call it good . The few color pics I can find of the car they ALL look white to me . The interior on the other hand,,,I'm not so sure about yet. My Plan is go out today and ck out the testors metallizer line. -
I have 2 clean 1960 Lincoln convertibles, and 1 clean 59 convertible. and I don't have $150 in all 3 combined. One of my 60s could all most pass for mint in the box if you took it apart

No problems I like that idea,, the Johan pieces isn't looking to promising they are gonna work AND clear the front tires. I'll try this and see how it looks

I've decided this one has sat in the unfinished pile for to long. Time to dig in and getrdone . While trying to figure out how to assemble the body and still be able to install the interior proved to not gonna happen, (thus the time its sat in a box for the past 5 or more years started ) So yesterday morning I dry fit the interior and fully assembled the body taping it up to hold everything square and secure till glue dried. Then cut the chassis pan out of it with a razor saw. My plan is detail the interior and put it in from the bottom like any other model. I've already added some stryene strips to the body give it a ledge to glue the chassis pan to . Next up is fix all the sink marks on the body to get her ready for paint. My idea for exterior paint is ( hopefully someones done this before and I'm right) Paint the body white, then top coat that with Testors white lightning to give it the pearl effect. Then either A- use a clear blue top coat over that then clear the whole thing Or B - dig out the air brush and mix some blue in the clear my 1st choice is plan A ,unless someone tells me its not going to work ( might dig out and do some spoon tests to ck my idea) comments good and bad always welcome and encouraged

Lincoln Futura Interior color
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Agreed,,, 99% of the pictures I can find of the car are in black and white, which makes if difficult to pin down the exact interior colors . I am leaning towards a slightly darker silver with maybe a real dark grey contrasting color . I have the body in primer now and will concentrate on fixing sink holes in it this weekend maybe -
Have a question in hopes someone can answer. Another one of my started but not yet completed builds has been calling my name more and more lately. So I think its needs to move to the front of the line. I have the body assembled and plan to cut the chassis out so I can do the body right and install the interior from below then glue the chassis plate back in I think I know what color to do the body ,,,but for the life of me I cant make out what colors the interior was. Its looks like black,,with the seats and areas on the doors in either a silver leather or vinyl ???????? any ideas ?

Come on down Steve, I plan to be retired living in Arizona looooooooong before then .........SO build season could be quite long ( actually going down this summer to ck out property ,,but that's another story ) -
outstanding ,,both the model and the photography I thought the 1st pic was a real car

I wouldn't worry about it to much. I have one that the skirts were on. Popped them off easily enough and there's nuttin under them to really get damaged anyway

I've got a few of them . ,,,from both Danbury and Franklin Mint. A good friend of mine got on the mailing list for them both back in the 80s. . They would send him a new car about every 3 months. And that went on for several years. Needless to say he had a bunch ,, a WHOLE BUNCH of them. He's been slowly selling them off on Ebay the past year or so . ,,at least the ones he wants to sell. Some have done quite well price wise. I know of a few that darn near dinged $1000 mark

Trophies, plaques and medals/ribbons
gtx6970 replied to Nacho Z's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to do the contests thing. did ok I guess. Over the years they started to stack up. On a whim one day I took them to a local model club and donated. Some I donated to a local boy scout troop to get rebadged . The only one I've kept is my 1st place plaque I received at the Mopar Nats about 15 years ago. ,,,maybe even closer to 20 years ago. The contest thing really does nothing for me . I think I've only entered one in the past 15 plus years
