I have a 4 ft cheap fluorescent dual bulb light over head of the bench to give some overall lighting of the whole work area. And then 2 moveable spot lamps I move around to light up particular areas and a 6" circular lighted magifier for detail / closeup work.

Very nice, one of my favorite cars of the time period I sure wish either Polar lights or Revell would tool up a 70-74 Cuda body to fit there vintage chassis kits.. IMO, every resin body Ive had in my hands it seems like the hood is sunk in the middle.

New tuck'n roll interiors
gtx6970 replied to krassandbernie's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
WOW,,,,, I could go for a bunch of just the window cranks, door handles and arm rests. They could really bring some early annuals interiors to life -
Thats the story . I have been after a clean 68 coronet rt builtup for some time. (already have clean 69 hardtop builder and a done 68 RT convertible builtup ) But a 68 will easily outsell the 69 by quite a bit. At one time a dead mint unbuilt 68 would easily pull $400 US, Now I rarely see them over $250-300 range ( there are exceptions ) Yet a clean builtup will pull a $75 to $100 almost every time The original issue 1970, will struggle to bring $30 now the Chevlle I have no idea as its not something I look for

Being a huge Bond film fan, I will definitely get a sub car for the stash . Long live Sean Connery, ( and yes I know Roger Moore was in this film )

MPC Soapy Sales Challenger Funny car ......
gtx6970 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This is one of those kits I am REALLY happy to see return. I remember building one when they were new ,,many years ago. I built one many years ago so its unlikely I'll do another one box stock . But who knows. I do hope the re-issues decal sheets has the stripe going all the way over the rear deck of the car like the 1/1 did. Sadly I have a mint original issue still factory sealed inside and this will kill its value. But so be it. I want a few of them regardless. I bought a few of the Model King issues a few years ago . And one cant have to many AA/FC kits on the shelf . Mine. built this one back in the late nineties from a messed with unbuilt I picked up off Ebay. . Bought my unbuilt back in the early 2000's also off Ebay. -
There was slso a Richard Brooks Charger Daytona kit. And it was NOT the same kit as the K+K car. The Brooks kit has a full blown Nascar chassis , where I think the K+K has a stock chassis and interior http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-VINTAGE-BROOKS-NASCAR-CHARGER-MPC-1-1705-225-OPENED-/252243323863?hash=item3abadfabd7:g:UsYAAOSw8-tWZ3u0

Love it, I have one of these in the stash for my someday build

I've done a couple over they years. The green GTX is masking tape and painted. Its was done well over 25 years ago. and still look ok . The red MPC charger is paint. used small strips of stryene to make the seams then spray painted it with semi gloss black and holding it way back from the kit on the last couple of coats to get some kind of texture to it ..

Thanks fellas, I'm drawn to the car because of the uniqueness of it ( plus at one time this was an extremly high dollar model kit ) ,,add to that its from the same time period as the Lincoln Futura ( which I do like ) . Thats why I decided to build one . Besides it looks cool in between my 1958 and 1960 Bonneville builtups

Vega Funny Car Spoiler Extension 1/25
gtx6970 replied to bob b's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Take a look at those cheap pie tins / cake pans . And as an FYI, The Setzer Vega didn't always have the rear spoiler extensions. I have a bunch pf pictures of the car with just a plain rear spoiler -
Here's one to show how just small this car is, Its sitting next to a 1/25th scale AMT 1960 Bonneville. The rear fin barely clears the top of the quarter panel on the Bonneville.

For now I am calling this one done,,FINALLY. I want to figure out something to replicate the stars on the fenders and I plan to use aluminum tubing for the exhaust tips that protrude out the rear valance,,but until then. Off the workbench In the case it goes . Its painted with Tamiya aluminum , interior is duplicolor red . Other than some embossing powder for carpet. Its all box stock. At some point, I may try to fix the seam where the ft valance glues on and touch it up with an airbrush . ( no way to glue to it on 1st and still build the kit ) Comments good or bad are very welcome. I'm a big boy I can take it. But I already know its not perfect. This kit leaves a LOT to be desired.,,,,,, especially in accuracy.

Talk About Time Consuming.........
gtx6970 replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Would I want it done to mine? nope. Its most definitly different ,, and kind of cool. I would sure stop and look at it . -
If one goes thru life expecting 100% pefection on anything and everything and everytime, your setting yourself up for some serious dis-appontments in life its not heart surgery , its a model kit for petes sake. Would I like perfection ? Sure would . Will I accept less than perfect ? sure So sue me as to the OP<,,,,,,thank you. It gives me a heads up for later on for when I build a MODEL CAR

Well,,,after nearly a year away . I finally got some time back at the bench ,,,,,, and this one was still sitting there. I was in my local hobby shop last week and found some Tamiya aluminum paint. So I did a spray out on some spoons and I decided it was close enough. So decided to get it done MY one issue after all the work fixing the body seams was while putting the seat back in place.Unfortunately I cracked the body work so I spent some time fixing that. Its not bad but I'm not 100% real happy with it. But I want it done off the bench and in the case( I'll just display it with the best side out ) If you look at pictures of the actual car, this kit isn't any where near accurate. But I decided to forgo most of it and build it . As doing major amounts of body mods I loose interest pretty quick But at least it's looking like a Club De Mer. Later I'll do the instrument panel and steering column in red and glue the canopies and front lower splash on . touch the red tailights . Tires are the kits hard plastic tires sprayed with Sems brand satin black with the white walls hand striped ( that was no fun ) With any luck I'll have it buttoned up in the next week or so . and finally move on to the next started project

Correct, the 66 and 67 Base chargers had the exact same wheelcovers. Then the all chrome magnum 500 5 spoke road wheels were optional , beginning in 1967 ( they had no trim ring )

Clutchflite Transmission-Look 4
gtx6970 replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From what I remember years ago talking to a guy who used to run one in a Hemi powered Duster , the clutch flites wern't known to survive long . I think it was due to the insane internal rpms the trans made with it,,,,, as well as the initial shock load when the clutch was released was known to destroy the rear sprag, -
Clutchflite Transmission-Look 4
gtx6970 replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed, I dont remember ever seeing one in kit or resin form I use to have one and it was just a 727 with the bellhousing removed and a scattershield in its place -
Ok, This may seem like a silly question. But whats the difference between a 1961 Ventura, a Catalina and a Bonneville ? I want to build mine as the 1961 Packer Pontiac SS car and I think it was a Catalina,,,Yet I dont see any difference from this Ventura kit other than the nameplate in the side mldg
