Nice, I got one of these on my todo list ( unfortunately it's a long list)

The shifter ball I was ck'ing into was a simple 2 piece tool. Shifter ball is approx 2.5" in diameter. a simple plastic round ball molded around a pre-threaded brass insert . I was quoted $75K to $100K ( approx ) And that got me from my idea thru initial drafting design, prototypes, up to 2 tool revisions then to finished product. The clincher was , that once final tooling / finished product was approved,. Was the setup costs to run said tool for a production run was above and beyond that ........$$$ amount per piece depended on total item count of said production run . That was 5 years ago and was going to be done in a Pacific rim country. needless to say it never went any farther than my idea.

More tire parts paks?

I say put 2 sets of the F60-15's in a parts pack and they should sell very well Me personally I want to see an 8 pack of the blue pinstriped goodyear bluestreak slicks, I hear these are coming though -
I've looked into having 1/1 parts made. And I can say, tooling is not cheap, not to mention the setup costs to run said tool. And it REALLY depends on the size and complexity of the intended subject, how many revisions it has to go thru , etc etc I was quoted approx 100K from start to finish to have a woodgrain shifter ball produced just to give you some idea. That was the manufacture retained the rights to the tooling. If I wanted exclusivity of said tool ? double that.

I got his pinstripe decals for the 1970 Charger several years back. they are nice and really set the modle off , just very fragile so be gentle

Just curious, to me they are kind of the pain in my bank account. My ultimate plan is someday to get all the mopar promos from 1966 thru 1974 At one time I had most of them then needed cash a few years back ( started my own business and wanted operating capital ) and sold a good size chunk off. Now slowly as funds allow I would like to rebuild the collection. Although I still have a pretty nice collection of some of the more desireable ones, like a Limelight 1970 Hemi Cuda , a Bright blue 1968 Barracuda ( Both in there original box ) , 3- 1969 GTX's , Dodge Chargers from 1969 thru 1971 ,also have the 1971 and 1972 Dusters I had a curiuos Yellow 1971 Hemi Cuda , but couldn't resist the $1000 offer I had on it so it went away. I consider them to be off shoots of model kits so was just wondering if anyone collects them as well

None of the 1968 LO23 Hemi Darts were never intended to be street legal. All were marketed for and to be used in 'Rapid Accelerations Speed Trials' When delivered to the customer , they did have something you 'might' call exhaust system, Wiper arms but no wiper motor , no mechanisims to operate the ft windows, no heater or defroster system. So I don't think they were considered street legal. And NO warrenty of any kind. I'm not familiar enough with the earlier 1966 D Stock Darts to comment on them one way or the other. But like mentioned, they were 273 cars and were a far cry from the Hemi Darts

Good Build Tips for a 10 year old...
gtx6970 replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My daughter just finished her 3rd kit. ( she'll be 13 next month. ) Ist one was a snap kit Polar Lights 65 Dodge. 2nd one was a snap kit Dodge Ram pinkup. latest one is the glue kit clear bodied trailers . She displays it all on her dresser, Dodge Ram 2500 pulling the trailer with the 65 dodge ramchargers car in it. Maybe one of the Monogram kits would be a good choice. My daughter wants to do a late model Mustang next -

OK, where are the fenderwell headers from ? Pretty cool btw , Like them all people. -
This is my main display case in the spare bedroom. Most of it is built models with a few diecasts thrown in I bought if the price was right . Some started and yet to be completed kits ( working on that part btw ) As some have been sitting incomplete for well over 10 years . The Mr Norms 1973 Charger was started in the mid 90's as an example. Some have been shown here previously, some have not. And I thought this method would be easier.

Something I think about from time to time , Whats it like to obtain model kits and supplies in the international community ? Are there stores / shops that carry model kits , or is most if not everything purchased via mail order ? What got me thinking about it is. I sell restoration parts / supplies for vintage Mopar cars. and I have a customer in Spain ( 2 brothers actually ) that are restoring 3 early 60's Chrysler Imperials. And they've mentioned that every single part has been bought via mail order . Just curious , I've never been outside the US and international traveling is out of the question( wife hates to fly) But I would love to travel and see the world thru my own eyes.

Same here, and I don't remember the details though . But still have every blueprinter kit I received. Except the sunbeam tiger, I sold or traded that one off ( big mistake )

Those "DUH" Moments...
gtx6970 replied to MikeyB08's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Worst one for me ( it happens on a regular basis btw ) is I'll walk into a room , or up to the bench , or up to the tool box or look into the fridge . Only to stand back and say to myself, Now what was it I was after again? Model wise I'll open a dozen models kits looking for that certain whatchamacallit, only to find a dozen other things I was looking for at some point earlier in time. Then when I get back the the bench , I'll realize I never looked for the item I went looking for in the 1st place. So the process starts over , and over, and over -
So far so good. And I can relate on the decals issue. seems like the last 5 or 6 cars I've started all had decal issues cracking as soon as I tried to slide them off the carrier sheet. And I think they were all Slixx decals once I have my current backlog is finished and I start new projects I am going to look into putting something on the sheets before I start

At last count, and between all the different variations of both the dodge and plymouth. Between builts an unbuilts I have 20 or 21 of them. It's hands down the most popular kit on my shelf. and I don't think I have over $10 in any one kit (bought them all back when they 1st hit the stores ) Johnnys toys around here was well known to sell WAY under retail. I've got numerous kits I bought in the $4.99 - $5.99 range. I've seen numerous times on Ebay they sell under $10 , even with $10 shipping your in the same range as most currently avail kits. Ya just gotta be patient.

Ramchargers car is hemi equipped, and the unique Hemi only hood scoop. bucket seats and I think it has both grilles ( not 100% sure on the grille ) plated 5 spoke ft wheels with unplated steel wheels for the rear I don't have a ramchargers kit handy to ck the grilles CMG is bench seat , max wedge engine and hood scoop , stock style 4 head light grille, plated 5 spoke ft wheels and unplated steel wheels for the rear Mavericks car is bucket seats, hemi engine but max wedge style hood scoop , Hemi car only 2 head light grille, plated steel wheels ft and rear as mentioned the slant six is in the stock issue only ( blue car on the box lid ) but the slant six is also avail in the 64 plymouth kit (black car on the box lid ) This is probably my favorite kit. I have 4 Dodges done, then another 64 dodge and a 64 Plymouth in process I wish these tools would get modified to do a 64 Dodge 2 door hardtop and a 64 Plymouth 2 door sedan

Thanks all. It's much appreciated. I already did the blackwash on the grille, painted the sunvisors red and went over some of the chrome emblems with a yellow paint pen to give it the gold anodized look they should have . Also ordered a replacement steering wheel and tail lights from Modelhaus . I would like to seat the wheels into the tires farther, but the tires are hard as a rock and I am afraid they'll split if I push it. When I bought this years ago off Ebay , I was pleasantly suprised the body had never been painted and was in remarkably good shape, thus the reason to leave it unpainted . The body was just cleaned up, a slight rub with a polishing cloth and waxed. It's not perfect by any means . But nothing that demanded it be painted to hide any defects. Plus I like a white exterior with red interiors. I have always thought the 57 thru 59 Imperials were Chryslers crown jewels .And with me being a diehard Mopar fan this one was just a given for my shelf Thanks again.

Ditto, I also recently got a 1965 Plymouth AFX hardtop. If you didn't know better it could almost pass for a stryene kit . My build with it is coming to the ft of the line , and fast.

Model Prices Swap Meet VS Ebay?
gtx6970 replied to DailyGrindCustoms's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depends on what I'm after at any particular point in time. AND what kind of time I have avail. There is just one model swap meet near me and it's only once a year, so it has extreme limitations. . And I will not drive 2 hours just to hit a swap meet, There is nothing I NEED that bad. I'll wait and find it via ebay 1st. ,,,like when I can shop in my underwear. I do hit maybe a half dozen 1/1 swap meets a year. And I do look around for models / promos. to either keep or flip. I've been on a antique car craze lately and Ebay offers the best chances to get what I may want at any particular point in time , problem is once I see something that catches my fancy is what usually gets that interest ball rolling in my head. I see it then my mind says 'OHHH , I need that' -
I think this is an old SMP kit, but I am not 100% sure . I bought it as a builder maybe 10 years ago or so. And about 5 or 6 years back I had a wild idea one weekend to build a model. AKA a weekend project just for giggles. Main goal was - keep it easy and quick. Body had never been painted and was real nice as is. So I left it molded in white. with just a light polish and BMF work. Interior was rattle can testors flat red. chassis is just simple gloss black. These are curbsides kits, thus no engine or opening hood. I am looking for a steering wheel and tail lights ( not sure of the recent 1959 kits is same / or similar.) Before it goes back in the case I may go over the grille and tail end this weekend with some detailer to help bring it out some. I've always liked the 50's fin cars of all makes and may have to get one of the recent 59's to go along with it . Keep in mind this was a quick weekend project. so detail is not outstanding . But it looks pretty good on the shelf. Enjoy
