  1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-MPC-Pro-Stock-Series-Collection-All-8-Kits-/171024302068?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item27d1d7bff4 Most of the above were dedicated drag cars with little or no stock parts or stock interiors Other cars such as the Vanke Duster were nothing but a stock issue with race car parts added in Off the top of my head - 1972 Duster - Arlen Vanke car. 1972 Barracuda - Sox and Martin car
  2. I have a few pictures of old drag cars and it's pretty clear to see the lettering on the side of the car is just as shiny as the car itself. Was every race done this way ? no idea . exibit A I started clearing over decals after I bought a few old builtups and on a few of them the decals are old and flakey . To each there own. When I did this one, I wanted to seal the decals down and cleared the whole car. It's a not a mile deep shine like some I've seen , it even has a just ever so slight bit of orange peel that I refuse to rub out because I think it more accurately represents the 1/1 the way it is . IMO only btw
  3. I do have a 55 nomad on hand slated for a Scotto / Blevins car and to be honest I have serious doubts there will be any more on my shelf , at least not in the forseable future. Don't get me wrong, I like the cars, just not enough to build a replica of one. And like a 32 Ford, I've never understood all the new tools or retools of of existing kits, do they really sell that well to demand the reissues, revisions , retools, and/or new tools by ALL manufacturers to have at least some version ?
  4. I like it. I even have one around here somewhere but it's been years since I've looked for it
  5. I guess I'm in the minority. I have 'very' little interest in any tri five chevy .
  6. I've seen the Ferrari build and the V12 , there is another one out there thats a blown hemi I think I can only imagine the talent, time and skill to do this kind of work
  7. Does the kit have the front crank mounted blower ? or does it represent a naturately asperated car ? my purchase will not be here for a few days and I was just wondering as the car I worked on was a blown car
  8. 2 months in a row I mailed my bldg lease payment to the bldgs owner who lives across town ( 10 miles one way tops.) BOTH times the flat rate envelope went thru Michigan post office instead before finally getting delivered. what should have been there the next day arrived a week later. I mailed an international pkg to Mexico 5 / 6 months ago, it took almost 2 weeks for the buyer to get his purchase , But the customs # said it went thru Chicago IL ,,,,,, PLUS USPS.com says it's still in Chicago IL. Yes I do still ck it once in a while just for giggles
  9. Yes a real one. I used to work for a local restoration shop that specializes in brass era / pre war car restorations. They do extremly high end restorations ( Pebble Beach quality ) and Real High end street rods . And I was in awe everytime I worked on it. Especially when I was told it was worth upwards of 1.5 mil Cool part is , the owner is a lady thats not afraid to drive it ., She actually used to vintage race it , now retired btw The actual car is about 2/3rds the way down this link http://www.ohioconcours.com/2003/sa.htm
  10. proof positive,,,,,,, just because you can - doesn't mean you should
  11. Ebay will give you a range of what the kit is worth to each individual buyers. use it as a guide and nothing more. I tried to buy several kits at a swap meet over the weekend , some were over priced and when I tried to wheel and deal several sellers reply was ' thats what I can get for it on ebay' ( I wanted to ask then why not sell it there and avoid paying for the swap space here ) Just because it sells for $100 one day doesn't mean they all will. Case in point, I just bought a Heller early 30's Alfa Romeo for less than $20 delivered. I did the sold search for the same kit and it's sold anywhere from $8 to $40 I used to sell parts for Mopar muscle cars on Ebay , and one time a set of wheel lip moulding screws ( yes just the screws ) sold for $45 for a pack of 35 screws . Something tells me they 'all ' aren't 'worth ' that. just what 2 people were will to pay .
  12. Oh my, I don't know what else to say that hasn't been said . Other than make sure to have the camcorder out when u fire it the 1st time.
  13. Thanks , I had the opportunity to work on a 1/1 a few years ago that belongs to a local collector ,,, pretty cool lady that actually drives it , a lot . And that car struck a cord with me, so this will be on my to do list later on.(maybe sooner once bench space clears up ) I don't need a 100% perfect or a kit that falls together with little to no effort on my part. From what I can see so far when viewing open kits, it looks decent . And I don't think the 2 piece body will be a problem provided the edges all line up and it fits together like it's supposed to , I'm good. Plus, I'm in it less than $20 so if it's a pos, I'm not going to loose sleep over it . I have one other Heller kit of a Hispana Suiza and it looked pretty good so when I seen the Alfa I thought , oh why not. Thanks again for the feedback.
  14. Plus the area circled is to tall and should flow back into the rear of the hood more and not be so big shouldered Now, That said if it comes out exacly the way it looks right now even with it's flaws ,,,,,,I'll still do the happy dance
  15. the 2 scoop hood is just shaped wrong in several ways. Not that I'l use either hood in 9 out of 10 of the ones I build so to me it's not a deal killer Revell hood
  16. I know some of the Fred Cady sheets had them. I just ck'd all mine and I don't have that specific decal ( probably used it already )
  17. Hopefully this is a quality kit can anyone give me some feedback
  18. Agreed, WAAAAAAY to many nice models to only give away a top 10 awards . I know a judge is supposed to be blind to all the aftermkt stuff, but no way can or will a box stock build compete against a scratchbuilt piece. And I saw some extremely nice out of the box kits on the table. Not to mention the customs section was off the hook . Then the section with all the custom painted cars was incredible. The build that took best of show deserved it though
  19. If the car shown earlier is the one I think it is, ( the 2 door hardtop ) It's a clone so using it for actual reference of the original car is questionable . Provided,,,,,, it's the car I seen a few years back at the US Nats
  20. I went, met a couple members, even bought a few pieces. Sorry but I completely forgot I even had my camera with me . I thought it was a pretty good turnout, I would say well over 250 models on the tables. maybe more. My daughter woke up this morning feeling ill . but she wanted to go , sadly we got about 5 miles up the road when she decided we needed to turn back and head home. So I decided to go anyway . I entered a few kits with no real thoughts of winning, . I did enter my daughters 1965 Dodge. And it took best beginner. You should have seen her face when I handed her the trophy when I got home. I made her ( and mine ) day. There was someone there taking pictures for Scale Auto though so maybe ck upcoming issues.
  21. I bought a grille, bumper assy and rear bumper from Kevin at Missing link just maybe 6 - 8 weeks ago. He doesn't have it listed so you have to ask for it specifically.
  22. It's rare I put much than than box contents , so figure maybe kit costs plus $20 I have done some with added detail then I would guess maybe another $20-$30 on top of that, But that build might be 1 out of 20 that go beyond box stock
  23. As a general rule maybe 100 miles is my max I think. even then it has to make sense. A few years back I did the Toldeo show and the . with the contest the next day . That was probably 10 years ago or longer. I plan to to it again this year if finances allow
  24. Its' my understanding this is the same car , just later in life under different ownership. But to be honest I am not 100% sure of this. There seems to be very little info on the car , other than it was handful to drive and went thru dozens of hired guns to drive the thing ( somewhat typical for an altered)
