Mustang bodied altered. Updated June 1 st
gtx6970 replied to cobraman's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Mind if I ask how your planing to mount the body to the chassis.? I have been thinking about this car for some time so you definitly have my interest -
just a google image I found real quick. I get mine at my local auto paint supply house. I think it runs about $20 a can and it's a single stage urethane topcoat. I've not tried to sand and polish it out but I don't think it would be a problem I've used it on testors paints and duplicolor sprays , The only one I've had issues with was on a Polar lights 1965 Dodge . It has some very slightly crazing in it, And I'm not sure if it's in the color coat or the plastic. It happened twice on the exact same car. so my gutt tells me it's the kits materials . ps, I tried the Duplicolor clear and didn't care much for it . It didn't give me as much of a shine as the U pol brand did . But part of me thinks it ' might ' have been the weather . Either way , I've used this on at least a dozen builds with essentially no issues to date. 3 of them are white cars

This car was painted Duplicolor white and UPOL clear. Close to a year ago now and it doesn't look any different today all rattle cans btw

Revell Ford Thunderbolt
gtx6970 replied to johnbuzzed's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
We think alike, Up until the T bolts arrival I rarely bought anything Revell made ( bad memories of the over complicated opening doors and such from Revell kits as a kid ) I probably have close to a dozen of them between the Tasca Ford and Gas Ronda cars. -
Thats fine for existing and/or a previous customer base , but imo if offers nothing for new or potentially new customers something to look at to see if the item is what they want . Pictures go a LOOOOONG way in a products success,,,,, or not .

Whats the fun in that ? it wouldn't be modeling if one didn't have to think about it a bit. I did pick up a 60 Starliner chassis recently on a trade so this project is in the near future, just haven't decided if i'll do a 63 or a 64 ( got a couple of each ) pm replied btw

mom and pop vs. big hobby shop

Bet your a barrel of fun at parties -
Agreed, If you look at the black hood and side stripe treatments between the 2 yellow cars shown. plus the blacked out windows,, the one screams clay mockup. Plus if you lighten the picture you can see supports just in ft of the right ft wheel and just inboard of the right rear wheel . Me personally never cared much for the design, but I'm not a ford guy either . But I always thought it looked like a Datsun 240Z and a torino mated. I've seen the resin bodies over the years and thought about building one just for the uniquness of it , but thats as far as it's ever gone. If there was plastic body kit of one, maybe .

Scratch Building an Aussie Ford Falcon **New update,15/1/18**
gtx6970 replied to ShawnS's topic in WIP: Model Cars
agreed 100% -
I assume this car was never kit in stryene, and is only avail in resin ? If so who and where can I get one. I think Modelhaus used to make one but I don't think it's on there current product list. I want to do a couple different drag cars and they only thing I've been able to find out is resin only

The few pictures I have of this car show missing ft inner fenders and tube bars in there place. with a pretty radically cut up radiator support and aluminum radiator . Thats not accurate for how this was was built originally was it ? ps, I assume this is the revell kit correct ?

Here is what it looks like. I plan to replicate an actual car I got to work on a few years back.

@-1970-1971 Plymouth RTS Road Show
gtx6970 replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know it depicts it on the box art but don't know if accurate ft end parts are included to do it. I know for a fact the trunklid is stock in the kit with no parts to accurately depict the 1/1 car. IMO the paint schemes would be the hardest part to duplicate on all of them- 7 replies

Source for throttle return springs
gtx6970 replied to Bonekrosha's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I just make my own when needed -
Looks killer so far. ps, mental note remove door handles and rocker mldgs when I do mine . Glad you mentioned that. Same here, I have had similar issues with several Slixx sheets lately. But all were either older sheets or sheets bought thru secondary outlets. So the last few sets I have bought directly from Slixx in hopes to avoid issues

To the best of my knowledge he does NOT own the RTS Cuda I've thought about attempting all of the cars in 1/25th scale but the 71 Roadrunner and 70 Duster might be a tad bit beyond my skills and/or concentration level I don't think the 70 Roadrunner would be all that hard to do , the grille is avail in the original Johan release ( i have a couple of the grilles but only the one builtup of the car and I already have plans for it )- 7 replies

Same here. I have been on a pre-war cars kick lately. and I just might have to add this one to the stack. I just picked up an Heller kit of an early 30's Alfa Romeo Zagato and it is extremly close to the ft of the line. I plan to start it late this summer or early fall at the latest ( maybe sooner if I can clear the bench ) ps, does this kit have whitewall tires or all black ?

Just curious,is it going to have decals to do both the red and the white versions on Grumpy's car ?

mom and pop vs. big hobby shop
gtx6970 replied to Q tip's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't bought much lately that is a current kit. So most of my purchases in the past 12-18 months is online ( 90% of which has been Ebay ) I do have a Micheals and a Hobby Lobby close by but neither carry much modeling wise., kits or supplies Otherwise I only have one actual hobby shop , but he is more into RC stuff . We've talked and he is willing to listen and add in model kits , he just doesn't want to have thousands of dollars invested in slow moving store stock -
One of my favorites thats been posted here . Actually , This build is the one that inspired me to build my Beswick car. And my interior didn't come nearly as nice as this.

Just a nasty cold wet dreary weekend . It was decent saturday, but yesterday and today highs in the low 60's , a breezey and rainy past couple of days ==== just plain blah

Out of the archives -1967 Color Me Gone Charger
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I did manage to tinker with it a bit last week . I finally added , and long overdue crank dampner, fuel pump and lines and a tank. I am almost positive the tank is 100% wrong but it was all I had in the parts box. It's done and back in the case till I decide to finally take it apart to make it a bit more correct. ( someday) -
Out of the archives -1967 Color Me Gone Charger
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Back when I bought it ( over 10 , probably closer to 15 years ago ) all I got was the loosely assembled chassis , what was left of the int tins, body and rear bumper. I used the glass and ft grille/bumper from the old mpc 67 charger kit ( the one molded in black ) I didn't get any paint, box or instructions You would probably hate me if I said how much I paid for it back then ( it was WAAAAAAAY less then $150 ) -
White tires/Black tires
