  1. I will not use any pre-wired dists but M.A.D. - excellant quality and service is one of the best. 2 thumbs up
  2. I have a sealed 1st issue with the orange cuda on the lid , but the only other one I have is the molded in purple later issue and it has chrome tail lights . I don't think I've ever had the AAR version in my hands. I used to have ( may still have it somewhere ) the black street machine version with the 2 scoop hood but I don't remember the tail lights it has/had.
  3. I drilled holes on the body and inserted /super glued a small aluminum tube, then once dry fill fill the hole in the tube with paint of your choice to replicate the red and the amber , then polish . Tada , almost instant 1968 side markers
  4. Cool build , great story. I think the oldest I have that I personally built is a Johan 1969 Road Runner done as a Sox and Martin car. Best I can remember that car was built somewhere maybe 25-30 years ago give or take a few years. I've been with my wife for almost 23 years , and I know it was built before then I had got out of the hobby lock stock and barrel back in the later 70's - very early 80's time frame ( chasing girls and chasing real cars took over in a BIG way) . and came back to it real late 80s or so and this one was one of the 1st when I came back to it .
  5. sums it up pretty well for me. I build little toys cars because I like the subject matter that I'm trying to replicate and if someone else looks in the case and sees what I have in my minds eye,,,,then I acheived my goal. Last weekend was the 1st contest I've entered in well over 10 years with ZERO expectations of placing, let alone winning. I was there so my daughter could show off her 1st built model,, . And in hopes she might enjoy it enough to follows in dads footsteps. and see friends I only see once a year at said contests.
  6. Not to mention the actual chrome bezel on a 1/1 is so thin,,,, IMO, I think it would be extremly difficult to replicate in 1/25th scale with anything other than to chrome the entire bezel and paint around it
  7. If it comes out looking EXACTLY like it appears in the pictures so far, it will still sell like hotcakes on sunday I'll take a case of them right NOW
  8. AFX- N-Scale makes one , I just don't remember if it is a 1968 or 1969 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-BARRACUDA-COUPE-WITH-PRO-STREET-INTERIOR-RESIN-CAST-MODEL-1-25TH-SCALE-/390575413511?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item5af01bd907
  9. Harry, Sorry but I respectivle dis-agree. I used to work for a shop that has been invited to ( its the only way your entry is on the show field @ Pebble Beach) and won there respective class at Pebble Beach . He has told me many times it was never a show about absolute correctness at any point he has exibited a car there. ( 3 times I think ) I have been involved with high level Concurs shows, as a judge , and exibiter, and as a patron. Trust me, I woudl venture to say 99% of the cars entered are no where near 'correct'. It is , and so I'm told by exhibiters envolved a lot longer than I have, is ' A beauty contest. ' In my gutt I have serious doubts the craftmanship as displayed today , is anywhere near the level compared to when they were new. Attend a true Concurs level show,,,,, and Really look over the cars that win top honors sometime. Every bolt on the engine has the flats of every hex pointed the same direction. Every bolt / nut with a cotter pin going thru it has said cotter pin pointed in the same direction and cut the same length in addition to every flat headed the same direction. Valve stems are put at the exact same location on every tire. etc etc etc.
  10. Ding ding ding we have a winner, give that man a cigar And thats why I don't care to do contests,. It's not about accuracy, it's a beauty contest just as an FYI The most prestigious show in the world . The Peeble Beach Councors D'Elegance is that same thing
  11. Thanks to all for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I've never heard of , built or even had a Heller kit till recently, now I'l have 2 With the luck I've had on drag car builds lately I may take a break from them ,,,,,,and build the Alfa-Romeo sooner than I had originally planned. Especially while the 1/1 is so close and readily avail to ck details if needed. I'll look into the wheels once the kit arrives then decide how to procede. Thanks again
  12. 1/25th scale almost exclusively, but I do have several prewar era cars to do and they are all 1/24th scale. Never built anything larger than 1/24th scale. I do have maybe 1 or 2 of the 1/32nd scale cars I have several 1/18th scale diecast but I found out real quick they take up way more room than I would like so I stopped collecting them as much as I was
  13. I wish ya the best, Been there and done that and I know exactly how you feel . Material things can be replaced, life can't.
  14. I did assemble the kits shortblock with a set of Johan Hemi cylinder heads and crossram intake . That way I wanted to get it in primer tomorrow maybe then painted later in the week so I can start detailing the underhood stuff this weekend ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And thats when it went downhill. It just wasn't meant for me to finish this car. I was turning around to come out of my work bench area when I smacked the side of the body on the door frame and put an 1/8" chip in the left rear quarter panel. Plus under the right lighting and at the the right angle I can see crazing under / in the paint that didn't show up till I cleared it. At least the 1st time I painted it, the crazing showed up before it was cleared and the decals were on. The more I looked at it, the more I wanted to see if it could fly . And at that point, I just closed the doors , turned out the lights and walked away before I did something I would regret tomorrow. Tomorrow I 'm just gonna touch up the knick, dab some clear over it and move on.
  15. I am aware of the avail colors in a RO - WO car. Also all WO Coronets and RO Belvederes were 2 door sedans There in lies the problem , The information I have is the actual car was not a real WO race hemi Coronet from birth. It was a 426 wedge car converted to Hemi a driveline shortly after delivery. The color it's painted is the color it's going to stay.
  16. Interior is rattle can Tamaya Champange gold with some details picked out with brush paints I've read conflicting info , one place says the car was gold interior yet the Cady decal sheet says it was red interior. I liked the gold better.
  17. This one like so many others started out as a simple build. then turned to BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH when the paint crinkled up real bad. So in the tank it went . I did finally get the body straighted back out and down to bare plastic ( not fun btw ) last week. Back in primer and painted over the weekend. And the decals on it today. Body was stripped of it's kit supplied pearl white,I sanded the body side mldg off to lessen the horrible lines it has. Painted in a duplicolor rattle can light gold with one coat of clear for now . Once the decals dry I'll put another clear coat on to seal it all in. Nothing fancy , it'll be some basic underhood detailing like plug wires and maybe battery cables, but thats going to be about it . This is the Polar lights snap kit btw . And I am not particullary happy with the decals 2 layer registraition . No matter what I did I could not get them on where I wanted them so they looked like the pictures I have of the car. But they're on and I am washing my hands with them. I'll probably use parts of the kits engine and add a hemi top end from the parts box. Comments,, good and bad,, always welcome and much appreciated.
  18. I bought one of the polar lights kits over the winter for myself. But when it showed up my daughter loved the pre-painted pearl white finish and she wanted it . She had never built a model before,, but had spent some time watching me. So I let her have it on the conditions she had to build it on her own. There is no extra paint work and/or extra details. Just straight out of the box with a left over set of decals i've had for years and never used. My only contribution was helping with positioning the 2nd layer of decals (it's a fred cady decal sheet) And even at that it was limited to the 'Ramchargers' lettering only We had planed for months to attend the local model show so she could enter it . But on the day of the show she got sick and had to stay home. So I took it and entered it on her behalf. Needless to say it made my day when they called her name as the class winner. And shes already on to the next one , a snap kit of the 1966 Batmobile. she picked that one out after seeing it on the shelf at Hobby Lobby. So I guess the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree. She'll be 13 in 2 weeks
  19. Fuel blocks and barrel valves will vary by year and even by teams , it all depended on who thought they had one better than the others That said here are a few pictures I snagged off the net maybe a year or so ago. Not sure who or where I got them so I don't have scale info but maybe they'll help, maybe not. Barrel valve style here is I believe a later 70s design . Or, do a search for postings made by Charlie at Protech, he seems to have nailed the look perfectly ( I think he did the setup in these pictures as it looks like his work ) found one of his , This car just knocks my socks off I can only dream to have my builds come out this nice http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60503&hl=%2Bjungle+%2Bjim+%2Bcamaro
  20. I can't think of any others.
  21. Isn't the Toledo show in Nov ? or is it October ( been a while since I was there ) But I am actually thinking about going this year just for giggles might be a good show for it to debut, since thats where it was announced
  22. not here yet. my guess is end of the week The more i know about the kit , the more I want to push some others out of the way and move this one to the ft of the line. The actual car was just that cool. Plus I'll probably access to the real one for references for the moment . A couple weeks back I was at my former place of employment and saw it's back in the shop having some work done over the winter. So I may seize the moment so to speak .
  23. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-MPC-Pro-Stock-Series-Collection-All-8-Kits-/171024302068?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item27d1d7bff4 Most of the above were dedicated drag cars with little or no stock parts or stock interiors Other cars such as the Vanke Duster were nothing but a stock issue with race car parts added in Off the top of my head - 1972 Duster - Arlen Vanke car. 1972 Barracuda - Sox and Martin car
  24. I have a few pictures of old drag cars and it's pretty clear to see the lettering on the side of the car is just as shiny as the car itself. Was every race done this way ? no idea . exibit A I started clearing over decals after I bought a few old builtups and on a few of them the decals are old and flakey . To each there own. When I did this one, I wanted to seal the decals down and cleared the whole car. It's a not a mile deep shine like some I've seen , it even has a just ever so slight bit of orange peel that I refuse to rub out because I think it more accurately represents the 1/1 the way it is . IMO only btw
