Pretty cool build. I have always thought about building on of these, But I thought there were 1/20th scale ???? I remember watching the race when the car debued and from memory it didn't do very well

Not sure if I ever asked this or not. A friend of mine who owns a high level restoration / fabrication shop . ( think Pebble Beach quality type cars ) And he's building an extremly high end 1937 Ford woodie, for the most part from scratch / ground up. He knows I build model kits and asked me if a model of this car is possibile . SO, I'm asking . I see there is a model kit of an all steel car , just haven't found a woodie kit as of yet

31 Nash: way beyond "Rat Fiink" Coupe: new project 5/9/13
gtx6970 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
John I'm amazed on how quickly you move forward , considering the amount of scratchbuilding you do. It's not my taste but I'll give you credit for thinking outside the box,,,,,,,,WAAAAAAAY outside,,,,,, like across the street from the box .. To all the ones who do all this scratchbuild stuff like brass frames, an engine from chunks of aluminum , making bodies from sheet plastic or a complete car from scratch is awe inspiring yet almost intimidating. So my hats off to you all. My how the times have changed from the days when we used moms sewing thread for spark plug wiring. sorry for the subtle hijak, I just had to get that out -
So which is right, the dropped ft axle or A arms ? or is it a matter of which year your trying to replicate ?
-
converting a charger body to look like a 1970 Roadrunner ( aka Superbird ) would be an astronomical undertaking. Not one single body panel is even close. The only part that would interchange is the wiper cowl and windshield and A pillars. But even the A pillar stainless moulding is different between the 2 cars IMO it would be easier to draw one up and/or scanned in cad and have it 3d printed to make a resin master ps, All 1969 Chargers were bucket seats, bench seat was not avail , regardless of interior trim level. It was buckets with console, buckets with center fold down arm rest or buckets only

Elmers clear school glue works pretty well as well
-
Good start. I have one of these kits to do . so I'm going to keep an eye on this build
-
Thanks all, Looking at the pictures I think the ft of the body is sitting to high. Need to re-ck and see if I can get the ft of the body down farther like in the 1st picture. And I think I like the gold wheel centers on the ft better . I may just repaint them,,,,,, again

Sweet, I love it. care to elaborate on issues ?

Finally,, it's on the done side of the case. Only took nearly 12 years. And yes, the date shown on the 1st picture is legit. Thats how long this one has been waiting. It's an old Goodstuff resin body on a Johan Challenger interior tins and chassis . Best I can remember it's painted in testors candy apple red over a gold base on both the body and chassis. Engine just has some of the basic ignition wiring and fuel system on it just for fun. This one was my 1st attempt to make my own accetate windshield. It's not bad but far from perfect. Overall I'm happy with the finished build.. But real glad to get it to the ' finished ' side of the case.

Crinckel painted hemi valve covers
gtx6970 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I thinks it's rustoleum that has a spray called textured black in both a real fine and another one with ever so slightly more texture. I've got some I use to replicate the suede finish on Mopar interior parts It would pass for the ferrairi valve covers shown -
Cheap Funny Car Bodies
gtx6970 replied to afxmustang's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If your by changce referring to the ones being sold by rdsxfan they are produced by AFX N Scale he starts a lot of them at $8.99 but it's rare they sell for under $20 , which is stil pretty decent . I have 2 of them and so far no complaints I've got the 67-69 and a 70-71 Firebird bodies -
My NEW space...
gtx6970 replied to FIREMODELMAN's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed, and Oh buy am I going to remember this line. -
I would be extremely suprised if it was anything but a marketing ploy to gather new sales . aka decals and maybe wheels
-
Thanks , I wasn't sure if there were any kits avail after 1965-66 or not . But I knew of the later promos . I have a builtup original issue 1958 Imperial convertible kit and have been thnking about picking up a 1959 kit just for giggles. So now I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have clicked on this thread

Revell Ford Thunderbolt
gtx6970 replied to johnbuzzed's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not really , I remember as a kid trying to get the opening doors to work on some revell street rod kit and made such a mess I finally just glued them all shut. Same deal when tried to do a SWC willys many years back . After a few attempts back then ( all ended up in the crash and burn pile in the ft yard ) I refused to buy anything Revell made if it was a kit that had working doors or decklids AMT or MPC kits were so much easier to work with ,,,,,,,, I don't remember having much Johan stuff till much later in life,,,,now I have a bunch . -
Johan or AMT or maybe MPC made them up till approx 1968 as a promo, ( not to terriblly hard to find either ) and not sure of any other years or if there was a kit avail EDIT, just ck'd - there were 1966 1967 and 1968 , but all were promos based . I can't find any evidence there was a 1969 or later

Mustang bodied altered. Updated June 1 st
gtx6970 replied to cobraman's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I've seen one picture where the dog house was off of it , and it looked like the chassis attached to the rocker panels right at the base of where the firewall / the door hinge area would have been . gotta see if I can find the picture. In one picture it looked like a glass body shell so my gutt says it attached to the rear similar to a funnycar of the era -
The Alfa I worked on has an underhood vacuum canister on the firewall. Engine vacuum fills it up and gravity feeds the carb from the reservoir
-
Did manage to get a few minutes to mess with this one the past few weeks . Got the body sitting on the chassis for the 1st time just to get a feel for the stance. With all the issues this has caused I decided to just use the kits tires and wheels ( every picture I've found of this car it used steel wheels on the back ) Never in my life have I had a model kit fight me like this one has from the word go. From paint issues, decal issues and me putting a nasty knick in the drivers side quarter panel. I decided I better get it done before it ended up in the parts pile. As soon as the engine wiring is done, this one will be off the shelf , sooner the better.
-
I looked thru my files and this is the best picture I have to show shine. this is straight out of the can with no sanding or polishing of any kind. I don't really go for the super slick mile deep clear look . You can see a nice reflection in the top of the ft fenders I can try to get a better picture if desired .

Seems like the we're all getting old. and the great ones from our time are passing on. I had the pleasure to see the Manta Ray in person last year while on tour,, When your consider the time frame and the tools / technology avail back then , that car is simply amazing to look at over and over and over. I took a bunch of pictures of it
