gtx6970 replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, I guess that makes me old. I'll venture a guess that at least half my stash were $9.99 or less , with quite a few at $4.99 + $5.99 -

Al Hanna's Eastern Raider Pinto funny car
gtx6970 replied to ratnasty's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Besides the chassis how much different is the Johan kit compared to the revell kit. I've got a bunch of the Johan Pintos but none of the Revell kits, and this build looks pretty cool and fits in with my time line interests -
Family interest in models?
gtx6970 replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My daughter has taken a mild interest in modeling. She keeps asking when she can can get back the bench to finish here clear trailer for her polar lights 1965 Dodge buildup just gotta clean up some stuff off the bench , get her a chair and let her at it. ( she'll be 13 next month ) -

The link above to the Chi Town Hustler, is it the original car or a new modern 'NewStalgia " car ? Article is worded to say it's the original car, yet some things look wrong, ( rear wheels as an example )

I've never tried this yet, but I may have to soon. My idea is take a plastic bag, spray that expanding foam into it then , while it's expanding set both the model and the bag in a box. that way the foam kind of surrounds the model as it forms inside the box . I would try it without the model first to make sure the foam doesn't react with the bag,,, and melt thru it,,, so to speak

Pair Of '64 Super Stocks: Ford Thunderbolt & Dodge 330 -Finished-
gtx6970 replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
ps, the T bolt kits are one of my favorite kits. Just add some blocks under the rear leaf springs to get it up off it's butt and it makes nice example of a vintage drag car. -
A few factory stock builds 1970 Dodge Charger - replica of a good friends 1/1 car Replica of my former 1/1 1969 GTX Also, I am building a replica of my former 1/1 1970 Challenger 340 1969 Charger Daytona ( AMT kit )

Although my stuff is no where near the caliber of some being shown here. There was a time when I would get a little detail crazy, but for the most part anymore I stick pretty close to box stock with maybe plug wires . Here goes 99% of what I build are vintage drag cars ( all makes ) and Mopar Muscle cars 1965 Landy AFX Dodge 1964 Hubert Platt Thunderbolt Dougs Headers - Chevy 2 Much 1964 Super Stock Dodge Wild Willie Borsch Altered

Modifying a Promotional Model.
gtx6970 replied to Wheels's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
REALLLLLLY depends on the promo in question. Modern promos (IMO) will never have the value or following the vintage stuff does. So, IMO, modify it anyway you want , I doubt it ill hurt the value all thet much , if any. I collect old Mopar muscle car promos and ANY modifications , repairs, and/or flaws drops the value considerably ( mine are all 1973 and older ) -

You going to replicate any particular drivers T bolt ? Per info on another board , The best paint I've found so far to replicate the T bolt int color is a Tamiya Champagne Gold over a dark primer base this is a 1965 Dodge interior but it gives you an idea of the color ps, depending on how your monitor depicts it , picture a light silver with ' just a hint ' of gold tint to it to the get the color. -
I'm in awe of every one of you I don't have the talent, time, or the eye sight to attempt some of this stuff .

Family interest in models?
gtx6970 replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me and a couple of my brothers built when we were kids ( 60's + early 70's ) But I'm the only one who kept with them on and off over the past 40 plus years. My youngest daugher has expressed a passing interest in it and has built 2 snap kits and one glue kit( the clear car trailer kit ) so far. my wife has ZERO interest other than keeping track of the money I spend on them . But at least she tolerates them and me . so I'm good with that. -
I'm waiting. and watching for issues if any . I built one of these the 1st time around and didn't do it any justice. When the re-issue came out a few years ago I grabbed 2 (just in case ) Hopefully the next time it's turn out much better

Aventador, Which is best, Aoshima or Fujimi?
gtx6970 replied to stevehansen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews

ps, the new wheels look jaw dropping real I ck in on this from time to time. And I have to keep reminding myself this is entirely scratchbuilt. amazing is a huge understatement
-
I have one of these same kits to do as well. So thanks all for the pictures links . And really looking forward to some build pictures

John, I build 1/1 cars for a living. and I ask all my customers from the very beginning. What do THEY want in a finished product ? then I try my best to acheive that goal. If there happy, I'm happy. So , if your happy with it. Carry on and enjoy it and all the pleasure it gives you. Life has enough bumps along the way to worry about opinions on an online forum board (mine included btw ) . I can certaintly appreciate the craftsmanship in the build and all it's details , it's just the 1/1 subject matter does nothing for me .
-
I like the overal quality and attention to detail , it's just the subject is to me uglier than sin. BUT, I'm not building it either so my opinion is moot point. That said, the problem with pointing out an error such as this (had it been mentioned earlier) can and will be taken ' by some' as bashing it. Maybe the builder wouldn't but one never knows how any one takes criticism . And my parents always told me, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I build for me and me alone,,,, so I try to make them accurate within a reasonable effort. BUT, if it's not 100% dead nuts on, I'm not going to loose any sleep over it. I don't do contests, and the only ones who see my stuff outside of my family are the ones I post pictures of online ( which accounts for about a 1/4 of what I have in the case btw) Besides, Everyone ( Ok, maybe most of us ) learn from there mistakes, it what makes us human. Like I said earlier,,, carry on and enjoy the ride while we still can.
