  1. 1. Would you take a model from the dump?

    • No way! Who knows who touched that/ where it's been?!

whats with the problem with it being at the dump? people throw away a lot of perfectly good stuff...go to the dump sometime and take a look around. as far as it being dirty, its probably no dirtier than something at a random garage sale. hell I would grab it in a second, if it was something I wanted or thought someone I knew wanted. then if I was feeling germophobic, I would spray some Lysol on it. I doubt I would waste the Lysol though.

I've been a trash digger all my life. You just have to use common sense.

Is it dry? Yes > No . Is it covered in body fluids or excrement? Yes < No. If not you're good to go.

I did once pick up an old Airfix Cutty Sark sailship from a dumpster. I'm guessing the scale was about 1:150 or something like that so it was quite big and the kit was complete, unbuilt and even the box was fairly good. The dumpster I picked it out of was in the yard of a tirecompany so it was filled with old tires and innertubes so nothing really dangerous in terms of germs or bacteria but if it had been in the "human left overs" dumpster at the hospital then I would have left it there. It all dempends on what type of gabage it is surounded by.

I do know several people that have picked up a lot of stuff from the dump as you many times can find a lot of things that are now where near broken or damaged. One guy I know found a laptop computer that looked like new, complete with chargercable and carrierbag. Turned out it had come infected with a computervirus so it needed a complete hard drive format and new OS install but after that it was very good and from the documentation he found with it it was only a couple of months old and it was one of the higher priced HP models. So I guess, some people just have to much money

I once found about a dozen old build ups on someone's lawn on garbage day. I had access to a plastic bag that I put the models into, took them home, and put them in the laundry tub with hot water and soap to soak. I think you should try to save these abandoned kits.

I would stay all day and look for more when I worked for the city we would always empty the trash cans on the Main Street on Fridays one time a buddy I worked with took a load to the dump and when they dumped the truck they started to see pieces of $20 bills so the guy at the dump and the guys were picking out pieces of twentys and trying to match them they did get several matches but there were a lot more someone tore a whole envelope full of them in half and threw them in the can.they had to leave because of being on the clock but the dump guy was still digging never would tell us how much he got either. Also thanks for setting up the poll miles I thought that it might be a good one!

Make sure you give them a good wash and some hand sanitizer after you pick them up might be prudent.

I just want to know why I/you/someone is at the dump digging through trash to start with. :D

I probably would take it though if for some reason I was in a landfill and just happened to see one...
