guitarsam326 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I feel your pain on the cleaning/filling in on the wheels and tires, but its worth it because no one else does the old stuff like AITM!
tbill Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Terry, you're on a roll man! great looking stuff so far! and so quickly, you are amazing.
Superpeterbilt Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 Thanks fellas, really. I think Im finally satisfied with the front fenders. I also started making the 5th wheel mounts.
Bennyg Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Looks great. Love the wheels. What number are the wheels in the catalogue? Ben

afx Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Just read through the whole thread. Excellent work thus far Terry. I will be following this one for sure.
Chariots of Fire Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Fenders look good Terry. Pretty close to the ones Jeff and I did. One tough looking truck.
Superpeterbilt Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 I started scratch building a 5th wheel because the 1/25 wheel on a 1/24 truck wasn't cutting it. It was just a tad too narrow, and the pivots needed to be sitting on top the frame rails. And after some consulting with Dennis(Tesla), I was swayed to build a dovetail on the lowboy.
Tesla Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Terrific work on the fifth wheel Terry! And the dovetail? It looks right at home on the trailer The International dozer is nice. I like the winch on the back. I recall seeing these cable dozers being used when I was a kid.
Mopar - D Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Terry this is just awesome build you have going on here the Mack, Lowboy trailer and Dozer all with a ton of scratch building that looks perfect on each of them.
Superpeterbilt Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Thanks a lot fellas, Dennis that dozer is a diecast unit. I like it because its cable operated like my Grampas old Cat. Thanks Dan, scratchbuilding is a curse. This was supposed to be an out-of-the-box build. Well, since Im scratch building a 5th wheel, I figured Id make it functional. Its not realistically accurate, but itll hold a trailer. Tell me what ya think.
Superpeterbilt Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 I got a little more done on the rear end of the trailer. I drilled for tail lights, and framed them in. It all needs to be shaped and blended.
Tesla Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 The kingpin locking system is a great idea especially being functional...nice work!
truckabilly Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Once I made a functional fifth wheel. But apart from testing I never used that function. But it´s about the feeling... I can do it! Nice work on your build.
gatorincebu Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 (edited) Terry, Real nice job on the beaver tail! I used to hate loading the old machine with steering clutches and brakes, and more often than not loose tracks. The scary part was when you were about to break over the angle at top. It was a real butt clencher at times. Fortuneately I never slid off. But I saw other people slide . Though I did almost loose a P&H Excavator on some poorly built ramps. After that they went out and spent the money on some long hydraulic ramps. Boy what a nice differance! Be Well Gator Edited May 11, 2015 by gatorincebu

Be Well Gator We had a guy run a 963 cat off the side of a trailer once, and yeah butt clencher is the right word. I stood a bobcat up on its rear door once.....same feeling!
Superpeterbilt Posted May 9, 2015 Author Posted May 9, 2015 We'll, I changed wheels on the lowboy yet again. These are from the IMC tanker trailer with mods to the brake drums. These spokes have the look I want, but they might be too big. We'll see how it goes...... I also started working on the 5th wheel ramps. As soon as I have a full day I'm going to tackle the rear suspension.
guitarsam326 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Terry, what method do you use to bend styrene? Hot water or a heat gun?
gatorincebu Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Sam, I have used a hairdryer( not so efficient ) and a commercial heat gun. ( super efficient) but you need to be real careful with it. Never did try the hot water thing. hope this helps you. Be Well Gator
Superpeterbilt Posted May 9, 2015 Author Posted May 9, 2015 Terry, what method do you use to bend styrene? Hot water or a heat gun? Sam I just work it with my fingers(depending on the thickness) working from a soft bend to a tighter bend. I work it a little further than it needs to be because it will spring back. Sometimes it cracks so me( like the one on the right) but it usually works fine. This is how I did the bends on the lowboy gooseneck.
