1930 Mack AK Rigging truck, and AC dumper

I started scratch building a 5th wheel because the 1/25 wheel on a 1/24 truck wasn't cutting it. It was just a tad too narrow, and the pivots needed to be sitting on top the frame rails.

And after some consulting with Dennis(Tesla), I was swayed to build a dovetail on the lowboy.

Terrific work on the fifth wheel Terry! And the dovetail? It looks right at home on the trailer :D

The International dozer is nice. I like the winch on the back. I recall seeing these cable dozers being used when I was a kid.

Thanks a lot fellas, Dennis that dozer is a diecast unit. I like it because its cable operated like my Grampas old Cat. Thanks Dan, scratchbuilding is a curse. This was supposed to be an out-of-the-box build.

Well, since Im scratch building a 5th wheel, I figured Id make it functional. Its not realistically accurate, but itll hold a trailer. Tell me what ya think.

Terry,

Real nice job on the beaver tail!

I used to hate loading the old machine with steering clutches and brakes, and more often than not loose tracks.

The scary part was when you were about to break over the angle at top. It was a real butt clencher at times. Fortuneately I never slid off. But I saw other people slide .

Though I did almost loose a P&H Excavator on some poorly built ramps. After that they went out and spent the money on some long hydraulic ramps. Boy what a nice differance!

Be Well

We had a guy run a 963 cat off the side of a trailer once, and yeah butt clencher is the right word. I stood a bobcat up on its rear door once.....same feeling!

We'll, I changed wheels on the lowboy yet again. These are from the IMC tanker trailer with mods to the brake drums. These spokes have the look I want, but they might be too big. We'll see how it goes...... I also started working on the 5th wheel ramps.

As soon as I have a full day I'm going to tackle the rear suspension.

Terry, what method do you use to bend styrene? Hot water or a heat gun?

Sam I just work it with my fingers(depending on the thickness) working from a soft bend to a tighter bend. I work it a little further than it needs to be because it will spring back. Sometimes it cracks so me( like the one on the right) but it usually works fine. This is how I did the bends on the lowboy gooseneck.
