Model Cars Magazine Forum

If you were to split every catagory of racing and street cars, muscle cars box stock you would have 50 main topics that everyone could watch their own or maybe we could each have our own thread so we could only look at what we like I'm only kidding but if it doesn't fit put it in everything else that pretty much covers it all. And if you don't like say drag racing just don't look at it. But that's my opinion if it's worh anything or not.

To me, if he doesn't look at the sections, ever. Then he's just complaining to complain. I wish I had this dudes life to complain about a section of a model forum that he doesn't look at. So that's all it can be. What waste of his day, about 7 milliseconds to scroll past the truck section. I consider model cars a wide definition, from cars to space craft to monster figures to trucks, big and small. We're a group in a hobby that is slowly loosing it's appeal to the younger generation. For the most part, we're all friendly, courteous to others. I'm not a NASCAR guy, but appreciate the quality of work that a builder puts into one. Same with military or space or figures.

I guess I'm just confused because he's not whining, but he's complaining about something he isn't involved in and avoids it. So why complain, your doing the best thing you can, not look.

Petetrucker07,

Reread my original posts and try to comprehend the message. I have not made one personal attack of trucks, truckers or the people who build them. I just don't have a interest in the topic, It's like me liking broccoli and you don't, does that make me a jag wad.

The tone of your response to my opinion was very classy. Thank You!

FYI I have one of the best lives a man could ask for I am blessed. You and I just have a difference of opinion, it doesn't make either of us right or wrong.

John Cole, I like it :D

Vince, I did mention the fact that a forum could easily get over populated

There is no denying that most forms of racing have no representation on this forum. Casey has proposed several times an addition/reorganization of the categories to expand the forum and give other builders better representation but it continues to fall on deaf ears.

The basic response, the forum is the way it is and if you don't like find another one. We'll I have found a racing forum that represents more of my interests and I am banging it's drum as loud as I can.

It's amazing what people will care about sometimes. With the exception of the Community Build section, I NEVER go to any other section. I use the "View New Content" button and then I click on what interests me.

Drag Racing Models

If it goes in a straight line, post it here!

NASCAR

For all you NASCAR fans out there!

Trying not to stir the pot anymore than has been done already , but if WE look at the description of the two topics that involve racing you would understand why people get a little confused where to post things. No wording other than nascar and straight line racing. if you go to the trucks section there are many different places to post and descriptions are much better.

Lets face it indy,raley,F1 cars do not fit into these two descriptions . Just a small name or description change would clear this all up. Nothing needs to be added as far as a section.

I don't even look at the forum sections when I log on .. just hit the View New Content button and then I might not look at a post because of the section but it's usually the subject title that will keep me away. Even that doesn't keep me out of the 'not cars' sections if it just looks interesting. I do primarily build cars but there are some amazing truck and racing builders here and I usually pick some little trick up from them.

Having so many different great builders here makes thread categories a waste of attention.

My two cents. Change drag racing to competition straight line and nascar to competition oval.

No like button. Its meaningless without a dislike button. Do we really want to go there?

Bobby,

Jackpot!!!!! I like your thought process on this!!!!! IMHO Works allot better than what is there :D :D

Have you considered starting your own forum?, there are plenty of free ones out there that you can use, and you can set it up for only the subjects you like.

I am sure you can post any race model in either place.

Given how much moving is done around here with posts I'm sure it wouldn't be in the right place, the question now is where is the right place.

Really, Has our society sunk so low that you can't start a thread with the title "Something To Ponder" without being attacked. Ponder, pon/der, verb. think about (something) carefully, especially before making a decision or reaching a conclusion.

Have we lost all sense of comprehension when we read the English language? What about civility? I hear more critical thinking and personal attacks. (back door) I never disparaged anyone who builds them, likes them and who likes to visit those areas of interest. The only thing I said that was remotely negative was I'm looking forward to the truck issue like a root canal. That's a personal choice I have pondered. Do I really have that much power with that statement that I could personally effect someone!!! trust me I don't have that kind of power.

It's not that I don't like trucks, I do, I own one. I just don't have a interest in building one in plastic much like many here have no interest in building a Race Car. I personally don't care what anyone builds as long as it makes you happy.

I Pondered again and started this thread because I was curious as to why trucks got equal billing on MCM. Nothing more nothing less.

I think Bobby is on to something!!!!!! He has pondered and has come up with a much better solution than I could have or heard from anyone else.

Does this really have to be that difficult? Differences of opinions bring results ( think of brain storming) Attacks cause dissension.

Moderators if you want to shut this down I have no objections!!! I can see this is likely going no where other than a shoving match.

Maybe the Magazine should be retitled Model Cars/Trucks Magazine.

I am pondering, but I don't really see the need.

It all comes down to terminology. I might have a slightly different perspective from being an "English-as-a-second-language" person. In my native tongue (Norwegian) they're all cars; Regular passenger cars are "cars", trucks are "cargo cars", ambulances are "medical emergency cars" and hearses are "corpse cars"and so on. They are all the same kind of thing, just adapted for different kind of use.

One could always argue that white bread and whole wheat is not the same thing, and not to mention pumpernickel, and from there break into a discussion on wether sliced loaf or bagel is the way to go, but at the end of the day it is all just bread - right?

The only things that get moved are the things that are posted in the wrong place. If you read the descriptions for each area, it's pretty easy to figure out what goes where. It's nor rocket science.

I assure you that there was absolutely zero sarcastic tone to my reply, I am not sure how suggesting a idea could be took as being sarcasm , it was a valid suggestion.

I propose a poll be created to see the interest in my suggestion for renaming the drag and nascar sections. It would simply entail changing the headers and tweaking the descriptions. I believe this would provide a solution to this issue with minimal muss and fuss.

Harry or Casey would you be willing to do the poll.

Just a thought.

that sort of undermines the whole thread. if you have convictions, stick with them and articulate your thoughts. this sometimes means breaking them down to the lowest common denominator so everyone in the audience clearly understands your point of view. they may also offer differing opinions. you were probably aware when you signed on.

I'm going to have to agree with Harry's basic premise here (and in the print magazine as well). Frankly, there's not a single model building genre that truly can support a single model building subject area (if one peruses the flying model aircraft magazines, as an example--those pubs are primarily catalogs for the handful of mail/online distributors of RC equipment, with a few articles thrown in for good measure--something that simply doesn't exist in our hobby to an extent large enough to support a single-theme magazine!). Even the model railroading magazines are more advertising than articles anymore--bear in mind, it's advertising that pays the bills for just about every modeling magazine out there--compared to that, subscriptions and and the cover price only help out.

But, on a larger note, while I don't build model trucks, F1, prototype sports racers, tuners, outrageous customs--I can appreciate them, and I've picked up more than my share of building/detailing ideas from articles about those. Further, I suspect more model car builders than not would probably admit to the same thing.

"Model Cars" as a title doesn't really say it all, but it is a catching phrase--easy to remember. Of course, real truth in printing would be a magazine title such as "Model Motorized Internal Combustion Vehicles", but who really would be attracted to such an "academic" title? Not many, I'll bet.

When one considers it, this magazine (and that other one) have carried on for now some 35 years--longer than any other model car/truck/"whatever runs on rubber tires with an internal combustion engine" ever did, even collectively--and that's due in a large part to it's being pretty inclusive of models (and modelers) of all manner of road-going and off-road vehicles. And to those who would complain about there being subject matter in this magazine that doesn't interest them--ask yourselves if "half a steak isn't better than no steak at all?"

Food for thought, I think.

Ditto and I could not have said it any better....

This debate is nearly 5 years old!! There was a thread started by the forum owner asking for recommendations in 2010. For those that are interested here is the link. Yet here we are 5 years later with no new categories. What does that tell you?
