Pat Minarick Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 The first car I owned was a 69 340 'Cuda. The first car I drove in high school was a 74 Barracuda ,it was red with white stripes, white vinyl top ,and white interior. My senior year I drove a triple black 73 340 Roadrunner.
Belugawrx Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 1969 Pontiac LeMans Custom S Convertible. I was a Junior in High School in 1977 when I purchased this car for the princely sum of $350.00. Spent the following summer restoring it with the help of a buddy, and my dad who did the body work and final paint. My buddies and I had some great times in that car! DUDE !..... What a great Pic !!!
Sport Suburban Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) My first car is my avatar. It's a 71 Plymouth Sport Suburban. It was born as a 383/2v in beige. I was 8 or 9 when my dad brought it home in 1982. I learned to drive in it and have many memories with it. I bought it off my Mom back in 92 with my income tax return of $360. I had blown the 383 so it sat in the back yard. They would not give it to me for free and wanted to teach me some responsibility. Here is a pic of it in the back yard. It is sitting next to the 58 Thunderbird that was supposed to be mine. Plus another of my Dad's Thunderbirds. That one is a 60. He has a total of 5 Squarebirds. This is what it looked like when I bought it and put the 400 engine in it. Here is the oldest pic I have from when my Mom owned it. Next to it is one of my Dads other Thunderbirds, that one is a 59. As weird as it is to say, I really fell in love with this car and I still have it today. Someday I will finish the bodywork and paint it. This pic is now pretty old but it pretty much looks the same. It now looks like a 70 Sport Suburban instead of a 71. I changed the grill, hood and lower valance to the 70 versions. I also have another 70 for a parts car. I will reinstall all the wood trim when I paint it. It now has a build 440 with aluminum heads. It makes over 400hp and 500ft torque. The 727 has a shift kit, and 2400 stall converter, electronic ignition, 4 wheel disc breaks and custom sway bars front and rear. It is sitting on 17x8 front and 17x11 rear wheels. The 8 3/4 rear has a sure grip and 3:55 gears. I also have added Dual A/C, power windows, tilt, cruise (quit working), 6 way power bench seat, 140 Cop car speedo and the rare oil pressure gage (replaces clock) Edited May 3, 2015 by Sport Suburban
Luc Janssens Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Mine was a second generation Opel Ascona (photo taken from the net, mine was sort of a French blue) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Ascona
1972coronet Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I didn't get my licence until I was 19 years of age (1989) , which is a (boring) story in its self , which I won't even get into here . In the summer of 1989 , I'd finally saved enough coin to buy a vehicle . I looked at a lot of garbage and was becoming discouraged . A neighbour was selling his original owner 1973 Rallye Challenger 340 ( F8 green , black interior , 3.55 gear , A/C , power disc brakes , manual steering , etc. , etc. ) . The only modification ever performed was the replacing of the 800 cfm Thermoquad with a Holley 4160 ; the T.Q. was part of the sale , however undesirable those carburetors were at the time . The car ran solid ; no unusual noises , sounds , creaks , etc. Probably one of the finest E-bodies to fly-out the doors of Dodge Main ! His asking price was $3,800 ... almost twice as much as my budget ! I can only imagine what that car in that condition would be worth these days ( remember : until c.1997 , cars built after 1970-1971 were undesirable , emissions-equipment laden , heavy , slow pigs ... ). I later was told that my folks would have loaned me the extra money to buy that Challenger . Oh , well ! I finally found a clean and reasonablly-priced car : 1972 Dart Swinger ! For what-ever reasons , the seller wouldn't tell me what colour the car was painted ! He said , "It'll be a surprise . Just come and check it out !" So , on a Sunday afternoon in late August 1989 , my family and I took a drive to Montebello to check out this 'mysterious' 1972 Dart . When we got to the seller's house , he said , "You're gonna love this car's color !" and he swung the garage door open , which revealled a Hemi Orange hardtop Dart . I was flabbergasted ! 1972 was the last year for Hemi Orange , and this car was a nice example . A test drive revealled a well-functioning air conditioning system ; a working AM radio ; a smooth 318 two barrel ; nice shifting 904 Torqueflite ; and a super clean white interior . I bought the car on the spot for $800 ! When I asked about the mystery surrounding the car's colour , the seller told me , "It seems that no one wants an orange car with white interior ! I wanted to keep the car's color a surprise , as no one was coming to see the car after I told them about the combination of orange and white ." Now , recall that this is the late 1980's . Most cars --- Muscle or otherwise --- were metallic colours , drab colours , bland colours ; a collection of stoich "Berlin Wall's east-side" cars. I had the Dart ( V.I.N. of LH23G2B307811 ) until July 1999 , when I sold it for $2,500 . Its 318 had over 300,000 miles on its bottom end , and had just lost compression . I piled 170,000 of those miles on the car . Without further ado , here's a photo of the car the day I brought it home , 29 August 1989 (Sterling Morrison's birthday !) :
3100 chevy Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Not old enough to drive but I hope my first car to be my dads 3100 Chevy we will be working on soon.
Junkman Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 1960 Buick LeSabre convertible with the 364 1bbl. And no, I do NOT wish I'd kept it.
1320wayne Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 My first car was a 75 Charger Daytona. It was a hand-me-down as my dad drove it for a while and then two of my older sisters had a hand in adding some dings and dents to it and then it eventually made it to me once I was allowed to get my license when I turned 17. That's me in the pic. at 17 right after we moved from Mass. to Florida in 1984. It was far from stock as my dad and I swapped in a 440 police interceptor motor in 82. It had the widest 60 series tires that would fit in the back with traction bars and Cragar 5 spokes and dual exhaust. And this is the only pic. that I have left of this car. As an added note, for anyone that is familiar with drag racing, the front end of the truck in the picture was Roger Lindamood's old late 60's ramp truck that he hauled his funny cars in. My dad bought it from him around 1980 and that's what we used to transport our family belongings from Massachusetts to Florida in. I wish I could remember whatever happened to the truck.
DeeCee Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I had a 62' EK Holden panel van, $400. 161 holden 6 cyl, was great, could fit about 10 people int and go cruisin'.
carsntrucks4you Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 My first car that I owned was a 1973 Citroen 2CV6 with astonishing 26hp in 1981. It had the nickname Luzie. Named after a TV series that where on television in the 1980 here in Germany
Chitown Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 My first was a '66 Dodge Coronet 440 convertible handed down from my mom. Oh, and it was a typical Chicagoland rust bucket with a 225" slant six. Even though the 440 designation referred to trim level, I regularly got what was left of my doors blown off by people thinking it meant what was under the hood.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Looks to be that I'm not going to drive the green VW or the Triumph, but instead the orange VW Squareback. I like it better than the green one, anyways... manual transmission.
Jim N Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 My first car was a 1975 Matador. It was not a very good car, but I kind of miss it.
Grid_88 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 My first car was a bright red 1991 Nissan 240SX that I bought from my brother for $10. It was a blast to drive it had around 119,xxx miles when I bought it and used it as my daily driver till I got tired of having an auto trans car so I went and bought a 1988 Mazda RX7 with a manual trans. I sold it with 199,xxx miles on it to a high school friend and a week later he got T-boned at an intersection and the car was bent in half so it was totaled he was fine but man was it hard to see that car go to the junkyard.
Southern Fried Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 First car, 1960 Impala. It was also my first introduction into the world of "finance". My Dad took me to the bank and co-signed a note for $400. Cost me $49 a month , dualsfor a year. Thought I would NEVER get it paid off! LOL. It had new white paint, chrome reverse wheels, 283 2bbl, Powerglide, duals and the entire interior was black Roll-an-pleated. Had a nice ride and HUGE back seat. By holding both feet on the brake pedal I could go from 60 mph to STOP in about 2 football fields. Land barge. Pic is not it, but almost a dead ringer except for the interior.
