I happened to see this air cleaner on another board and asked the builder about it. He said it was purchased through Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland around 15 years ago, and to the best of his knowledge, they haven't been available in this form (metal) for some time.

Does anyone know if there's another aftermarket model business that offers this (non-resin, non-styrene) air cleaner as part of their inventory?

Try eBay and add a search notification when one comes up. I was looking for MCG billet aluminum air cleaner for the 1967 GTX, gorgeous piece and hard to find. Eventually one came up on eBay and I got my email notification.

I think these are called "fly eye" air cleaners, and that is one gorgeous piece. Sorry, not much help finding one, Monty, but do keep an eye out on eBay as I have bought a number of long OOP aftermarket items that way.

Are you sure this is an... "air cleaner"? It looks like an upside-down basket with really big holes in it, plopped on top of the carb! Would seem to me the only thing it would keep out of the carb is really big particulate...

the 1:1 item has a foam insert under the mesh, supported by a plastic frame. it's not particularly the BEST filtration in the world, but it beats open carbs.

X-actly. B)

They filter better if you oil them too, but they also get a lot more restrictive. And they almost always leak at the lower perimeter of the foam, where it contacts the base-plate. ;)

Do you know anything about street machines or street rods? Yes, I'm sure it's an air cleaner, and I remember when these were a common aftermarket add-on. Some people liked the looks, but I assume most of their popularity was based on a combination of low cost, space configuration issues (dual carbs) and the misguided hope that the "all-access" design would result in more power from an increase in airflow.

I wouldn't have run one of these on any of my 1:1 cars at gunpoint, but I've got one particular build that the scale version would be perfect for.

I had one on my "Souped up tres ocho tres" '69 Charger . The previous owner , my friend now as then , did some modifications to give it some UMPH . 425 HP at the Tires on a Chassis Dyno . One of these in round configuration fit under the Hood . An open Air Element was TOOOO Tallll . Thus explaining a reason for "Everyday Traffic" usage . Thanx ..

I bought three about 15 years ago. I gave one to a very good friend for a project he was working on. I then used one on the 56 Delray and have this one left. Not yet sure what I want to do with it.

Not as far as I know...

Do you want one 3D printed? I have two 1:1 of these. It wouldn't take long to model one up and have it printed... :)
