Impalow Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 Thank you all for your comments! It's really hard to stay motivated in the summer.... But I managed to get some paint on the interior parts tonight... Duplicolor silver lacquer, nail polish silver with big flakes, and then some gloss acrylic clear. Managed to pull off the metal flake vinyl look pretty decent I think.... Still going to add some piping and more detail.
BTK Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Nice work on the vinyl metal flake look, does a great job resembling the real thing. Project is taking shape, keep at it!
Lordmodelbuilder Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 As a child that grew up in the 70's, I remember reading about the Street Freak craze in all the car mags. I love what you have done to your Gremlin. That thing is badass!
Speedfreak Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Eric, this is an awesome project, that interior is superb.
Impalow Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Thanks for all the compliments guys! After a pretty lengthy break, I have officially started back into this project. Last night I got started on the engine assembly... First by installing the photoetched header flanges to the block. Then assembled some of the shiny bits to the block. And then I scratchbuilt the metering block for the fuel injection, this was probably the most challenging thing I have done since returning to the hobby. A piece of .040 x .060 x .125 with 7 holes drilled into it, and then i decided to add the Photoetched hex fittings and linkage. Very time consuming but very rewarding... Sadly its very hard to photograph... although its not my cleanest work, it looks better in person and I am pretty happy with it... Hopefully i can get the intake installed and plumbed tonight.
gasser59 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 This Gremlin X makes a great street freak and your skills are taking it all the way to the top. She'll be a real show stopper.
Impalow Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 Thank you gasser59, I'm a big fan of your work so that means a lot coming from you. Managed to get the intakes installed and plumbed and then did a little wiring, very happy with how this is coming along... You may notice the front left injector supply line was disconnected, I have already remedied that issue.
Davewilly Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 looks great! Cant wait to see those headers on it!
Impalow Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 Thanks guys!! Not much major progress last night... although i did make a harmonic balancer. That the starter and an oil filter adapter and filter are ready for paint. Slap those, stacks and headers on and the engine is done!
John Goschke Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Uh... Wow! Very impressive workmanship on this project! Definitely going to be the baddest Gremlin on the planet!
Dave Van Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Your craftsmanship is great!! I love this kit warts and all. I have more PLANS to build it than actual completions. I had to build this one first...... Lots of box stock with just a few parts swapped. Fun simple build. Can't wait to see yours finished.....
Speedfreak Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Really like the colors and finishes you're using on this Eric, nice clean build as well. Purple engine, and , silver interior, yes!
Impalow Posted July 31, 2015 Author Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) Thanks guys! Made a little progress tonight, scenes unlimited backing plates onto the rear axle and then made a brake line... Turned out pretty decent! Edited July 31, 2015 by Impalow
