Tom Geiger Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 How well would models of some of the worst cars ever made sell? Very poorly would be my guess. My point. I wouldn't be trying to sell 10,000 of them. But if you see one at a show for $5-10, they are actually nice kits to build.
moparfarmer Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Joe, I got one of those 88 Dodge Daytona kits at a brown bag contest..You brought something from your stash that was complete and unbuilt, wrapped in brown paper/newspaper and drew for a kit..The one you get you build for the Christmas/December meeting..Most guy gave POS that they didn't want..I got the Daytona..Not much better than the Omni..Both POS
1930fordpickup Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I'd want to build the Glidden Pro Stock and some fictional ones also. a nice Turbo or SHO powered one would be cool. I see one everyday cuz I drive it. But I am weird too. I would love a clean EXP like this one.
Sledsel Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) She's clean, underneath looks like the hood. Love the stupid thing and it gets 39 MPG on the road, more if I keep the speed down a bit. Now wears Contour wheels Edited June 25, 2015 by Sledsel
dartman Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 This is the kit that became TJ HOOKERS / Rosco's/ Joker's goon car, 4dr cruiser. The box shows a two door on the cover.
charlie8575 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I thought EXPs were extinct! Those rims look good on it. Charlie Larkin
Sledsel Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) The box shows a two door on the cover. It is a 2 door, guess they modified it to a 4 door.... They came as a Road Runner also Edited June 25, 2015 by Sledsel
disabled modeler Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Here's my favorite Volare! I got lucky and found a mint, sealed one for 100.00 and I just bought a box stock, built one for 130.00. The guy that built it did an incredible job!! Perfect paint, flawless build! I have to reattach a few parts that came loose in shipping and then I'll post it here. image.jpg Now there we go....Id buy a few of those and the 75/76 RR ones if they could be reissued.
Ben Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Ben, I'm happy to report I bought all my Volare's back when they weren't worth anything. One I just checked for reference on a point someone made above has a $12 price sticker on it. I have a few more, at least two of each year. I doubt I paid more than $20 for any of them. I was going through a junk box at a show and found at least 6 Volares. The dealer told me he was into them when they were new and he painted those to represent factory colors. I think I paid $3 each for them. I had someone on a message board who wanted one of them badly, so I just mailed it to him. Funny thing.. same car was offered to me in trade maybe 6 months later by another person! LOL, that's the story of my life! I pass on certain kits when they are readily available because they don't interest me. Then, when I do ending up wanting them, they have skyrocketed in price!
JS23U Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 The 75-78 Roadrunner and "Dodge Sport" aka Force 440 have been converted to the Joker Goon car. If the 80 Volare Roadrunner ever hits the shelves again some resin caster should do the correct alloy wheels and window louvers. That would make a cool model!
Luc Janssens Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I'm wondering if the tool of the '68 Galaxie is out there. Don't think it morphed into something else, but then again, if they had it, it was probably already released.
AC Norton Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 ....I cannot supply photos, but how about a 71 thru 76 firebird, 73 duster annual , sox and martin and mopar missle dusters, gapp and roush pinto, landys challenger, any or all 67-70 era mpc funny cars, 69 mach 1 annual Jerry Harvey super stock,,,,,,and on and on.......just my thoughts...the ace....
Tom Geiger Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) 73 duster annual Good question. I do have a sealed '73 annual, as well as two rebuilders of that '73-6 era. It was updated every year to the end in 1976. Still it was pretty much the same car as a '73. I don't believe they did anything further with it. (Did it get hacked into drag cars like the '73 'cuda?) Then AMT did a new tool '71 a dozen years ago. Nice modern tool, chassis of choice on my A Body builds. Would be cool if they did a '73 or so off of that tool. And you don't see that '71 cheap at shows, I know I'm looking for them for the chassis. Edited June 27, 2015 by Tom Geiger
1972coronet Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 The Duster annual was last released for 1975 ; the Dart Sport was the only offering for 1976 . The latter is what Round2 recently reissued (as a 1975 annual) .
DaveM Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I would go for a couple Volares, even more so if they were backdated. I would also grab an EXP, and any big Galaxie that hasn't been done in a while. The kit that I would load up on, though is the '71 Road Runner.
Guest Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 How well would models of some of the worst cars ever made sell? Very poorly would be my guess. Did you ever own a Escort/EXP/Lynx?/LN-7? I owned a 82 LN-7 in the mid 80's, great little car, the wife and I back in the early 90's bought a Escort from my parents, another great little car. Good mileage, dependable. Neither ever had any major problems.
pack rat Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I do have a sealed '73 annual, Sealed?? What fun is that?...rip it open, Tom!
unclescott58 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I'm still waiting for the '71 Demon that was talked about a couple years ago. I have a '77 Volare promo painted in the same Spitfire Orange that my real '77 Volare was painted. I still like the looks of '76 and '77 Volares and Aspens. About a year or two ago I went looking for a '75 Roadrunner. I was surprised how hard it was find one. I thought I was the only one who liked them. Boy, was I wrong! I finally found a beautiful Yellow promo. Some others I'd like to see are any MPC kits with the fun extras MPC use to add to their kits. Like the '78 Dodge Monaco with the Rupp mini bike. The '69 Bonneville that came with a canoe. And the big one for me. MPC's Wild One Model A pickup/station wagon with the figure of Hot Curl. One of holy grails is one I know I'll never see reissued. And that is MPC's 1972 Chevrolet Impala. I'm afraid the tooling was upgraded through to the '76 Caprice. Three more. An early MPC ('71 or '72) Vega hatchback. AMT's non RS '71 or '72 Camaro SS. And AMT's '65 Imperial. I'm sure that kit would have to be reissued as a '66. But, I really like and want a '65. Scott
Luc Janssens Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) Sealed?? What fun is that?...rip it open, Tom! Tom is terrified that when he opens this mint kit, the tires etched into the clear parts. (happened to me on a few occasions, hence Im' not buying sealed vintage kits anymore.) Now in his mind it's still a perfect, time capsule. Edited June 27, 2015 by Luc Janssens
Tom Geiger Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 The Duster annual was last released for 1975 ; the Dart Sport was the only offering for 1976 . The latter is what Round2 recently reissued (as a 1975 annual) . Thanks for pointing that out. So it seems that the Duster annual was updated into the Dart Sport? That would explain why it's never come back and AMT did a new tool 1971 Duster.
1972coronet Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) Thanks for pointing [ the years of the Duster and Dart Sport annuals' years-of-issue ] out . So it seems that the Duster annual was updated into the Dart Sport? From what I've been able to ascertain regarding MPC's annuals of the Dodge / Plymouth A-bodies : 1970 = No factory-stock kits 1971 = Duster 340 ; late-year retool to the elusive Demon 340 (with full factory decals ! Unusual for that era ) 1972 = Duster 340 1973 = Duster 340 (first year for custom wheels and optional Hemi) 1974 = Duster "340" (first year for the HP 360) 1975 = Duster 360 ; mid-year Dart Sport 360 1976 = Dart Sport only 1977 = Modified Reissue of the 1976 Dart : Convoy Chaser (?) 1983 = Modified Reissue of the 1976 Dart (mislabelled as a "Dodge Duster") . Vector wheels , new decals , and deletion of the exhaust pipe extensions 2004 = Exact reissue of the aforementioned (now moulded in that famous grey plastic) . Again mislabelled ; this time as a "1975 Plymouth Duster Hardtop" 2014 = Reissue / restored tooling 1975 Dart Sport annual I couldn't tell you just when the Pro Stock Series were issued ( Butch Leal "California Flash" 1972 Duster , and the Sox & Martin 1973 Duster ) . lordairgtar Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Not sure about that one, how many people are old enough without being too senile to remember those things anyway? I haven't seen one in person in a couple decades now! Geez Handley, you think anyone old enough to remember this car is senile? How self righteous of you.
