bbowser Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I wish they had made the Ranchero with a stock roof. I built a few anyway.
Atmobil Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I wish they had made the Ranchero with a stock roof. I built a few anyway. They did, it's the one next to the new Revell kit above. Was issued sometime in the 70s with the stock roof still intact so not very easy to come by today.
Tom Geiger Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Someone did post this box above, but... Here's the box art car! I bought it at the GSL auction, still in the box Revell stored it in. As folks complain about the new Revell '57s I cannot help but remember just how bad this kit is, which was typical of the expected product and flat tool technology of the times. And here's my AMT '57 that I built when I first got back into the hobby. I had no clue that hardware store antique white (no primer- right on top of the bright blue plastic!) and Pactra RC Colors pink shouldn't work together... but they did since I didn't know any better. It's near 30 years old. Edited June 28, 2015 by Tom Geiger
Greg Myers Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) There was more than one release, keep checking ebay. I wish they had made the Ranchero with a stock roof. Edited June 29, 2015 by Greg Myers
om617 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Well kinda useless with no info what is inside the kits and how they build up
Greg Myers Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) On the other hand it does show what is out there, what to look for, what we've built in the past, what we might look for to build, what we have in our stash . . . Edited June 29, 2015 by Greg Myers
ChrisBcritter Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Well, the Country Squire was the first '57 Ford kit; molded in a color similar to Ford's Silver Mocha (the original darker version; Ford changed it mid-year to a lighter version). Despite the multi-piece body and lack of glass, it resembled the 1/1 car very well for the time. It was later modified into a Ranchero by filling in the rear door openings and cutting off most of the roof, but they didn't extend the front doors to match the real car, so it's always been inaccurate. When it was reissued in the 1970s it was custom-only (mainly a modified '59 Ford front bumper and grille surround with a tube grille and moon discs). It was later reissued in the 1980s with a severely chopped top and new wheels, and the original grille and front bumper were put back in.

unclescott58 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I personally love these threads looking back on old kits. It brings fond memories over all. Some bad. But, rarely that. And surprises with things I didn't know. And I like the old box art. By the way, what is the history of Revell's 1/32 '57 Ford kit? I have memory of a cousin building a model, before I got old enough to build myself. And I think that may have been the kit. This would have been around 1963 or '64. Was this kit out by then? Could that be the kit I saw? Sad to say, my cousin who built it, pasted away serveral years ago, so I can't ask him. Scott

Rodent Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Not 100% sure, but I think the Revell 1/32 '57 Ford came out in 1969 or so. I am pretty sure that I had a molded in blue 57 Ford and a molded in red 57 Chevy around that period of time. I had forgotten about those kits completely.
High octane Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 The Ranchero IS coming, trust me........................................

Rodent Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 What time period are talking about? '63-'64 or 1969? Scott Late 60s. I wasn't building models in 63-64 yet. I just did a search on e-Bay for "revel 57 1/32" and it came back with a junk blue Ford like I remembered. It also came back with a T-Bird, a Corvette, and a Bel Air that must have been reissued much later.
thatz4u Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 The Ranchero IS coming, trust me........................................ Who is your source?
Greg Myers Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 But help me on this, both the AMT '57 Thunderbird and sedan were first issued with some great customizing parts, add on front and rear pieces. Are these parts available in anything released recently ?

I remember having both those 1/32 kits around 1968 or 1969. That time frame is locked in because I remember being at my grandparents house and having acquired both of them at the same time. We had moved from Turkey in spring 1968 and we moved to Germany in fall of 1969.
unclescott58 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I wonder want my cousin built back in the early 60's? I'm pretty sure it was not the AMT '57 hardtop with opening doors. What other '57 Ford kits might have been available at the time, if any? Scott
