JohnnyK Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Okay, this was a exhausting build. I think that I spent more money on aftermarket detailing parts than I spent on the model. The kit has a number of issues: the tires do not look correct, the carburetor looks like a Quadrajet instead of a Holley, There is no distributor???, and the braided hose lines are unusable. So I replaced the carb with a Holley card, replaced the tires with Icon Automotive Miniatures' tires, installed KA Model photo etched parts, used Pro Tech braided lines, used hose fittings from Detail Master and replaced all of the molded bolt heads with real stainless steel bolts. Making the numerous braided lines took forever. I painted the car with Testors' metallic red paint and used Pledge as a top coat. That was a mistake!! After the model was finished the Pledge started to micro-crack. The cracks are not visible unless the light reflects off of the car in a certain angle. Plus, the Pledge just does not have a really deep shine. That is the last time that I do that. This model took a lot of time to complete, but I am happy with the results. By the way, I also build model airplanes. I find that I get burned out just building model cars.
Belugawrx Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Very nice John All the extra detail really makes it !! Cheers
Twokidsnosleep Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I really like it!!! It sounds like you are glad it is finished, I know that feeling after a long build Time for something completely different
stump Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Nice clean build, congrats on a fine example of "model completion." It is something I've not done in over 5 years. (soon to change......)
vamach1 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Very nice. I dread the time it will take to build mine but it will look nice next to the 1/12 Mach1 I have not built either.
XJ6 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Really nice very impressed with the engine detail Great Job ??XJ6 ?
JohnnyK Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Really nice very impressed with the engine detail Great Job ??XJ6 ?Thanks. Large scale cars require a lot of detail to keep from looking like a toy.
John Clutch Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Looks fantastic. If you displayed the car differently, I would have had to look pretty deep to determine if it was 1:1 or not. I'm very impressed.
Jeepxj Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Dam,that is one real nice job you did there.I simply love that car.
JohnnyK Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 I am now working on the 1/12 Lotus model 49. It is a lot simpler build than the GT 40.
